Judd Apatow's TV Show With Lena Dunham Will Be His First Since 'Undeclared' And 'Freaks And Geeks'

Judd Apatow and Lena Dunham seems like a foolproof partnership.

Apatow, of course, is the writer and director behind "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Knocked Up," as well as the cult-favorite TV shows "Freaks and Geeks" and "Undeclared."

(If we were to include all of the films that Apatow has had a hand in over the last few years, either as a producer or informally, we'd run out of room on the Internet.)

Dunham is a lesser-known artist. After gaining traction with the web series "Delusional Downtown Divas," which she directed, co-wrote and starred in, she made the critically adored "Tiny Furniture" last year.

For her first TV show, she's teamed with Apatow to make "Girls" for HBO, which, if its first teaser is any indication, looks to be a younger, New York City-spun union of the Apatow-influenced "Bridesmaids" and Dunham's own acerbic humor.

Confronting and making funny the obstacles that young women face in New York culture is Dunham's specialty, and Apatow has shown himself in the past to be an excellent facilitator for smart women in comedy.

Check Out The Girl Who Proved She's A Bigger Fan Of Drake Than You Are -- By Tattooing His Name Across Her Forehead

Think you're a fan of Drake just because you streamed his new album on Spotify? Nice try.

Talk to us when you get a face tattoo.

The below photo of a girl with "DRAKE" tattooed across her forehead made the internet go crazy on Tuesday.

Yes, it's real. And yes, those are shaved eyebrows.

VICE's Kara-Lis Coverdale tracked down the tattoo artist responsible for this insanity, Kevin Campbell from LA tattoo shop Will Rise, who says the fan was adamant about getting Drake's name permanently tattooed on her face, had the font picked out before she sat down and even pushed for Campbell to go bigger.

The best part? Campbell had no idea who Drake even was:

"The funny thing is, I didn't know who Drake was. I figured it was her hood or some shit, not some goofnugget R&B dude."

Goofnugget!

Elizabeth Taylor jewelry auction christie's

The lights dimmed inside Christie's auction house last night in New York, and a highlight reel of Elizabeth Taylor's best performances as an actress played for everyone in attendance.

After recaps of "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof" and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" played, the final scene was a real home video of Taylor sunbathing by the pool as she tried to bid on the former Duchess of Windsor's brooch.

Click here to see the highlights from the sale >

In the video Taylor says, "It looks as if everything is going to sell much higher than the estimated prices, doesn't it darling? Keep bidding!"

The crowd at Christie's laughed and took Taylor's advice. On the first night of the sale for The Elizabeth Taylor Collection, the actress' jewelry sold for $115.9 million--a world record for a private jewelry collection sold at auction. The proceeds will go to The Elizabeth Taylor Foundation.

The highlights of the night were a La Peregrina natural pearl, diamond, ruby, and cultured pearl necklace that sold for $11.8 million, including fees. That price broke the world record for the most expensive pearl ever sold at auction, formerly $7 million. The estimated value of Taylor's necklace was $2 million to $3 million before auction.

Overall, the emeralds and diamonds sold very well, while the gifts from Michael Jackson sold above estimate but on the lower end of the scale. Almost every item sold above its high estimate.

Actress Jennifer Tilly, entrepreneur Peter Grant and art collector Glenn Fuhrman were among the hundreds of people in attendance.

A ruby and diamond necklace by Cartier sold for $3.7 million. It's estimated value was $200,000 to $300,000.

An emerald and diamond bracelet by Bvlgari sold for $4 million. It was estimated at $300,000 to $500,000.

The diamond tiara given to Elizabeth Taylor by her late-husband Mike Todd was estimated at $60,000 to $80,000. It hammered at $4.22 million.

rooney mara Rooney Mara is the name on everyone's lips, and her movie hasn't even come out yet.

David Fincher's "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo," and starring Mara and Daniel Craig, based on the first book in Stieg Larsson's popular Millennium Trilogy, comes out on December 21st.

The role of Lisbeth Salander will be her breakout role -- and she beat out stars including Scarlett Johansson to get it.

Rooney Mara was destined to be famous, but maybe not for acting. She is the great-granddaughter of the Pittsburgh Steelers founder/New York Giants founder Wellington Mara (pictured below). He was the co-owner of the Giants and her father also worked for the Giants.

Mara was born October 24, 1985. She and her older sister, Kate, are both actresses. Below is a picture of them at the premiere for "Nightmare on Elm Street," in which Rooney starred in 2010.

She made her film debut in 2005 in the straight-to-video horror film "Urban Legends: Bloody Mary." Older sis Kate starred in the film.

Last week, while writing skits late night for that Saturday's Katy Perry-hosted episode of "SNL" on writing night, a few cast-members and writers got a little stir crazy.

And decided to recreate Robyn's "Call Your Girlfriend" music video. At 4:30 a.m.

Awesome.

In the video Taran Killam dons a cropped pink fur hoodie and does some ridiculously amazing dance moves around the small office while fellow cast-members Bobby Moynihan, Abby Eliot, and Vanessa Bayer create some strobe-lighting with flashlights.

If only this had made it on to the actual show!

American Horror Story house for sale

Fans of FX's American Horror Story might recognize a new listing on the Los Angeles real estate market: This six-bedroom, five-bathroom property located in Country Club Park is, more than any one actor, the real star of that gleefully twisted show.

As you peruse the images, you'll be struck by just how closely the sets of Horror Story adhere to the original interiors. The house's 15,000 square feet comprises "a 3-story main house plus grand ballroom, Tiffany stained glass windows, light fixtures, display cases and doors...wood paneling, wood floors, six vintage tile fireplaces, beamed ceilings...formal dining room with antique gold and silver leaf hand-painted ceilings ... [and a] large solarium."

Not mentioned in the description, but included in the asking price: A cannibalistic humunculus in the basement made up of a variety of pickled baby and roadkill parts, the ghost of a one-eyed maid who tries to hump your husband at every opportunity, a latex/breath-control enthusiast, and a pesky, chain-smoking neighbor who will appear without warning in your kitchen bearing suspicious-smelling muffins. At $4.5 million, you simply can't afford not to own this house. Get this baby in escrow immediately!

How To Make $200,000 In Three Days Telling Some Jokes On Video

$

louis ck

Few stand-up comedians have the cachet of Louis C.K. right now, what with his hit TV show on FX and a regularly sold-out live performance.

Capitalizing on this stellar reputation, he decided to film a show of his at the Beacon Theater in New York City and then sell it to consumers as a download for $5 — no middleman fees, no locational restrictions on where it could be played.

So far, it appears the experiment has been a massive success.

In a post on his site, Louis C.K. wrote that the video, which he directed and edited himself, has sold more than 100,000 copies since going on sale Saturday, including 50,000 in its first 12 hours.

He has so far netted a profit of $200,000 from the endeavor.

It would be difficult for any artist without a wildly dedicated fanbase to pull off such a business strategy, since it involved no marketing push or support from any old media partners, but Louis C.K.'s supporters are famously passionate.

And C.K. appears happy with the result as well — he said he'll continue to create and sell material this way.

We already know that, much like Daniel Craig and Jonah Hill, President Obama isn't the hugest fan of the Kardashians.

Now we know what he is a fan of, thanks to a new interview Michelle Obama gave to People.

Michelle and the girls love ABC's "Modern Family," while the President's favorites are HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" (wonder what he thought of the recent bombshell death) and Showtime's CIA drama "Homeland" (which we can't imagine feels like escapism to him).

Jessica Biel's Little Brother Is Blasting Justin Timberlake For Paying Zero Attention To His Tequila Company

$

So TMZ just posted a video of Jessica Biel's brother, Justin, raging about Justin Timberlake's lack of attention to the tequila brand he owns (and Justin Biel's supposed employer), 901 Tequila.

In it, Justin B. accuses Justin T. of neglecting his investment -- and announces that sales are in the toilet.

As he puts it in the video: the tequila is "so g--damn exclusive, our own CEO doesn't even drink it."

A rep for the tequila line told TMZ it's all part of a viral campaign to promote the liquor (and we guess it's working, since we've never heard of it before).

That makes sense -- since there's a fair amount of joke-workshopping and animated antics going on, too. (One suspects that Justin Biel might be trying to shift from his tequila day job into his own acting career.)

But even with the anti-Timberlake angle, the video's too lame to be funny -- we almost hope it's actually a dig at the singer.

FIRST LOOK: Sacha Baron Cohen's 'The Dictator'

sacha baron cohen the dictator

Sacha Baron Cohen is back, and he's edgier than ever.

This time he's gone full blown Middle Eastern dictator.

This one actually makes us more nervous for Cohen's safety than some of the other ones. But he's totally fearless, and really doesn't care about who he pisses off.

This movie is different than the first two and different from "Da Ali G Show" because it looks like it's all acting as opposed to interviews with participants who don't realize who he is.

Cohen has been bulking up his credits: He's in the newly released "Hugo," and will also be in "Django Unchained."

In the movie, which comes out May 11th, Cohen plays a sort of cross between Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi who comes to New York City, and of course, mayhem ensues. As does hilarity.

Paramount's tagline for "The Dictator": "the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed."

Larry Charles, who worked with Cohen on "Borat" is back to direct "The Dictator."

The film is said to be based on Saddam Hussein's novel, "Zabiba and the King."

Kayak Exec Says The Real Reason They Pulled Ads From 'All-American Muslim' Was The Show 'Sucked'

all american muslim

Robert Birge, chief marketing officer of Kayak, the travel search site, posted a note apologizing to customers for withdrawing his advertising from the TLC show All-American Muslim following a boycott urged by the Florida Family Association, a conservative group.

Or at least, it started out as an apology. Then it devolved into a rant about how the show, which documents the unremarkable lives of Muslims in Dearborn, Mich., "sucked," how TLC "was not upfront with us" and how TLC "is now enjoying the attention" that the boycott generated.

What Birge was seemingly trying to say was that although Kayak pulled its money from the show after learning about the FFA's proposed boycott, it did not do so because it was bending to pressure from bigots. Rather, Birge belatedly watched the show and decided it wasn't what TLC had promised to deliver. So he cancelled.

But what he actually said was this:

"The first thing I discovered was that TLC was not upfront with us about the nature of this show. As I said, it's a worthy topic, but any reasonable person would know that this topic is a particular lightning rod. We believe TLC went out of their way to pick a fight on this, and they didn't let us know their intentions. That's not a business practice that generally gets repeat business from us. I also believe that it did this subject a grave disservice. Sadly, TLC is now enjoying the attention from this controversy."

"Lastly, I watched the first two episodes. Mostly, I just thought the show sucked."

Put aside the fact that Birge is blowing Kayak's ad budget on TV shows that he claims to know nothing about. Let's try to follow Birge's logic: He starts out by saying Kayak chooses "advertising based on who watches it, not the political leaning of the program." He then describes the show as "worthy" but a "lightning rod." And it's hard to figure out how TLC would disguise the "intentions" of a show titled All-American Muslim. (You can see some decidedly non-controversial clips here.) Or how the show is a "disservice" to either its viewers or Muslims -- it couldn't be a more plain-Jane documentary series.

Finally, Birge ditches his original argument about only buying ads based on the audience and ignoring shows' political content, and concludes that he just doesn't like the show.

Note the line in the middle of the memo:

"I wish I could share some of the emails I've received from our team. They are also very unhappy with how I handled this."

Can't think why.

In case Birge decides his post should disappear, here's a screen grab for posterity:

These 12 Musicians Will Be Huge In 2012

Fiona Apple

A new year means new music.

And new music means new artists who will dominate the radio, the Web and your headphones.

We've pinpointed the 12 young stars poised to break out and old vets making their big returns in 2012.

Whether you like it or not, prepare to spend a lot of time with them soon.

Azealia Banks — This 20-year-old Harlem spark plug landed on the radar with her partly sung, partly rapped, entirely awesome song "212." Her combination of multi-faceted vocal chops and undeniable charisma makes for a pretty irresistible package, so it's hardly surprising that major labels are supposedly bidding on her.

(Source: Pitchfork)

The Men — After releasing one of the best albums of 2011, the Men have been praised with bringing back Brooklyn hardcore. They've got another album on the way in 2012, and now that their rep is established, expect this one to be one of the most anticipated albums of the year.

Frank Ocean — Ocean's meteoric rise began with his appearances on Odd Future tracks, then the free release of mixtape "Nostalgia, Ultra." With a proper album coming next year, he'll be able to build on his "Watch the Throne" features. Don't be surprised if this dude's the next R. Kelly, except less insane.
