'To Catch A Predator' Host Chris Hansen Let Go From NBC After Photos Emerge Of Him Kissing Former Mistress

to catch a predator

Just two weeks after we published photos of married journalist Chris Hansen kissing his former mistress Kristyn Caddell, NBC has announced they will not renew the contract of the one-time host of the controversial ratings juggernaut, "To Catch a Predator."

“Chris has been a valued member of the team and we thank him for his many contributions to Dateline and NBC News over the last 20 years,” NBC told TV Guide Magazine. “We wish him the very best.”

The 54-year-old Hansen said in a statement he’ll focus his energy toward “hosting and executive producing projects that will be announced in the coming months.”

Last month we spoke with Caddell, who complained she’s been essentially blackballed from the news industry after her secret relationship with the married father-of-two was exposed two years ago.

Caddell, who said Hansen led her to believe he’d eventually leave his wife for her, also gave us three photos of them together, one of him passionately kissing her on a public street.

In our chat, she expressed resentment about what she called a “double standard” in play, as Hansen continued with his career after the news of their four-month affair broke, while hers was stuck in neutral.

“No matter what your philosophy is on someone who has an affair — if it was the man or the woman’s fault — there are two people involved and if I can’t work, he should not be able to work,” Caddell, 32, told RadarOnline.com. “I have lived the double standard.

“A double standard is an understatement as to what happens in this industry: The women get fired, and the men keep going.”

Kathy Bates Slams NBC For Mistreatment Of Actors: 'They Disrespected Us'

Kathy Bates Angela Bassett

Kathy Bates is still bitter over the cancelation of her 2011 NBC drama, "Harry's Law" and she's not afraid to show it.

During Friday's Television Critics Association press tour promoting her new show "American Horror Story" on FX, a reporter asked the 65-year-old actress if her late NBC show caused her any hesitation about getting back into weekly TV.

At which point Bates let NBC have it:

"I think they treated us like s---. They kicked us to the curb. They disrespected us. They disrespected our 11 million viewers every week. And I think they're getting what they deserve."

"Getting what they deserve" as in ratings so terrible the network recently posted its lowest prime-time viewership average ever.

"Harry's Law"  a David E. Kelley drama — was canceled in 2012 after two seasons on NBC after garnering several Emmy nominations and solid ratingsIts second and final season averaged a hefty 8.9 million total viewers each week.

After realizing she may have sounded a bit negative, Bates backtracked a bit and said, "I would like to add something on the positive note ... I thought after all of that, I wouldn't [go back to TV]. But I met with Ryan [Murphy], and I must say that when he pitched this show to me, this little kid in me started running around jumping."

The CBS-Time Warner Cable Blackout Is A Bigger Problem For Time Warner Than It Is For CBS (CBS, TWC)

big bang theory

On Friday afternoon, CBS went dark for 2.9 million Time Warner Cable subscribers in New York, Los Angeles and Dallas.

This came after the network and cable provider were unable to agree on retransmission fee terms.

While this appears to be a lose-lose in the near-term, UBS analyst John Janedis thinks it's worse for Time Warner than it is for CBS.

"Our view continues to be that consumers have more loyalty to the content rather than the company which is responsible for distribution and with contracts often running 5+ years, CBS can’t afford to take below market value given the inability to renegotiate terms," said Janedis in a research note today.

Indeed, cable subscribers pay Time Warner, not CBS, for the content.  So, it's understandable why consumers would direct their frustrations to the cable provider.

"Based on our estimates, we think the CBS Network going dark could cost CBS about $400K/day, including lost retrans revenue and a loss of adv dollars at both the network and the stations," said Janedis who reiterates his Buy-rating on the stock. "Bottom line: Every two weeks of being dark equals ~$0.01/share."

Janedis doesn't offer an estimate for the cost to Time Warner Cable.

But the bottom line is that CBS shareholders may be able to wait this thing out.

What about CBS fans?

"If history is a guide, this should be resolved in less than two weeks," said Janedis.

Kid Rock took matters into his own hands this weekend after a burglar attempted  and failed — to break into his Detroit mansion.

In a post on his official site titled “Don’t mess with a Motherf----- Like Me,” the singer posted images of the crutches-carrying suspect and offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to his capture.

Kid Rock Burglar

In case publishing photos wasn't enough to ward off future intruders, the singer made sure to note:

“I am an avid hunter and marksman and I will not hesitate to shoot anyone who has myself or family in fear for our lives.  I take the invasion of my personal space very seriously regardless of who you are and YES, I do profile people.”

But his tactics worked.

Shortly after Kid Rock posted a reward for any information on the man and his "creeper van," law enforcement officials say two tips were made to the Oakland County Sheriff’s dispatch center leading to the suspect's arrest.

Success!

AMC has released a new preview trailer for the final eight episodes of "Breaking Bad."

There's still no new footage from the last episodes, but this one is the closest to an actual sneak peak at how DEA agent Hank Schrader (Dean Norris) will deal with discovering that his brother-in-law Walter White (Bryan Cranston) is the meth kingpin he's been hunting since season 1.

"Breaking Bad" returns to AMC August 11th.

Warren Buffett Thinks Bryan Cranston's 'Breaking Bad' Meth Drug Lord Is A 'Great Businessman'

aaron paul warren buffet breaking bad premiere

Warren Buffett is 82, a billionaire, and a huge fan of "Breaking Bad."

The Berkshire Hathaway CEO showed up last week to the premiere of season 5's final eight episodes at Lincoln Center.

While speaking with Buzzfeed, Buffett not only told them he's a big fan of the AMC series, but praised Bryan Cranston's chemistry-teacher-turned-meth-cook character Walter White.

Buffet recalled making a sketch with "Breaking Bad" actors Cranston and Aaron Paul to be shown at a Berkshire Hathaway shareholder meeting this year and referred to Albuquerque's drug kingpin as "a great businessman," saying "he’s my guy if I ever have to go toe-to-toe with anyone."

We're not sure how closely Buffett pays attention to the show, but the proclaimed "great businessman" has personally killed at least two dozen men, poisoned a small child, lied his way to the top of the meth business, and is currently on the run under an alias.

Remember Walt's previous business partner Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) once referred to the same guy as a ticking time bomb.

H&M Supposedly Axed The World's Hottest Model After White Powder Incident

Cara Delevingne BurberryEven the world's hottest model isn't immune to H&M's strict policy against narcotics.

A few months ago, Cara Delevingne dropped what appeared to be a bag of white powder in front of paparazzi. The press buzzed about an alleged cocaine scandal for the British model, who has represented Burberry, Victoria's Secret, Chanel, Zara, and more.

Delevingne deflected the scandal by posting an Instagram photo of herself kissing actress Sienna Miller at the Met Ball. Soon, no one was talking about her alleged drug use.

But the dropped powder incident is now catching up to the pretty model.

H&M recently axed her, supposedly because of its strict, no-drug policy, UK tabloid The Sun reported

Even Delevingne's status as the hottest model in fashion couldn't deter H&M, according to The Sun.

An H&M spokesperson gave a frosty statement to The Sun about Delevingne.

"She is not a model with us and I think there was a misunderstanding that she was the face of H&M,” the rep said. “We just used her for the show.”

Within the industry, H&M is "famous for their zero tolerance policy towards drugs," writes Hayley Phelan at Fashionista

Phelan notes that the brand also dropped Kate Moss at the peak of her career, after she had been photographed  allegedly snorting cocaine.

While H&M is a huge contract to lose, Delevingne is unlikely to suffer from the snafu.

"With campaigns out for Fendi, Burberry, DKNY and more, Delevingne‘s career is arguably hotter than ever," Phelan writes

'Skyfall' Actor Ben Whishaw Comes Out As Gay

Ben Whishaw James Bond Skyfall Daniel CraigBritish actor Ben Whishaw has officially come out as gay.

Whishaw played Daniel Craig's beloved gadget maker "Q" in last year's uber successful James Bond film "Skyfall" and is set to reprise the role in "Bond 24."

The 32-year-old actor confirmed the news over the weekend, while also announcing his relationship with Australian composer Mark Bradshaw.

The two entered into a civil partnership in Sydney last year.

Whishaw's rep told the Daily Mail:

"Ben has never hidden his sexuality, but like many actors he prefers not to discuss his family or life outside of his work. Due to speculation, I can confirm that Ben and Mark entered into a civil partnership in August 2012. They were proud to do so and are very happy."

The couple first met on set of the 2009 film "Bright Star," for which Bradshaw scored the music.

Whishaw sort of opened up about his sexuality in a 2011 interview with Out while promoting the off-Broadway play "The Pride," in which he played a gay man.

When the interviewer asked the actor if he felt it important to be a role model for young gay people, Whishaw responded:

"I really agree with that, and I feel in my heart that it's important, but I don't quite know yet the way to go about that. Maybe that's the transitional thing I feel I'm in the middle of at the moment. It's something I think about, but it's important for me to do it at the time that's right for me. And I'm not there yet."

In The Future, Cable Companies Might Not Even Offer TV

0
0

samsung 3d tv television

In the years ahead, buying cable Internet as an add-on to your TV package might seem like a memory from a simpler time.

That's because many Americans are opting to skip the television part altogether and instead getting faster broadband connections.

According to Shalini Ramachandran and Martin Peers at the Wall Street Journal, Cablevision CEO James Dolan is the first of his colleagues to publicly acknowledge this reality.

Mr. Dolan noted that younger users like his own children prefer to watch television via online services like Netflix over the packaged channels that cable providers offer today.

Because of this, he thinks that the current cable-TV industry is in a "bubble" that will burst when the youth of today become the mainstream consumers of tomorrow. With the massive infrastructures needed, it may not even be worth it for cable companies to offer TV after the bubble bursts.

That trend may have already started. The WSJ piece indicates that Cablevision has been losing video subscribers while picking up new broadband customers.

But Cablevision is a rather small cable company. While it has a strong presence in the New York area, it is only the fifth-largest provider in the nation with its 3 million customers. How are its bigger competitors doing?

Om Malik's recent post on GigaOm suggests that the trend may be a nationwide phenomenon.

Comcast, the country's largest cable provider, lost 159,000 video subscribers last quarter. It also gained 187,000 broadband users.

At that rate, Comcast will have as many broadband subscribers as video subscribers in about 5 quarters. While the revenue coming in from its TV subscriptions will likely still be higher by that time, such a shift will only increase the number of users relying on the Internet as their sole source of video content.

Netflix has proven that it can compete with the cable networks at producing top-tier content. CBS's battle with Time Warner Cable over "retransmission fees" (how much they charge the cable company to show its broadcast channel on cable) has led to some of the summer's biggest hit shows "Under the Dome," "Dexter," and "Ray Donovan" being blacked out in major cities across the country.

If subscribing to cable TV doesn't get you the shows you want, what's the point? With rumors that the blackout might last as long as six weeks (until the NFL season starts), a significant number of Time Warner customers might decide that paying for cable simply isn't worth it. That would only further convince others who have been on the fence that they too can get by with using broadband and online video services alone.

Here's Proof That Prince George Is Already A Fashion Icon

0

prince william baby prince george blanket

The newborn Prince George is following in his mother's footsteps as a fashion icon.

When he was carried from the hospital to the waiting car by his dad Prince William, the world struggled to catch a glimpse of the little prince, who was bundled up in a cotton swaddle decorated with tiny birds.

And though the walk to the car lasted less than a minute, everyone had to know: Who was he wearing?

Style bloggers and fashion writers quickly identified the brand, and within four hours of George's appearance, the Brooklyn-based brand aden + anais's website had crashed. Within nine days, the company had 7,000 orders, a 600% increase according to The Associated Press.

Now, over 10,000 of the wraps have been sold, and the retailer's website visits have skyrocketed to nearly 2,000% more than its daily average in Britain, and 500% more in the U.S, according to the New York Daily News.

CEO of aden + anais Raegan Moya-Jones said she had no idea that her blanket was going to be Kate's choice for Prince George. In fact, she found out when a coworker brought her a picture.

“Not in a million years did I ever anticipate the future king of England was going to come out in an aden + anais swaddle,” Moya-Jones told the Daily News. “I was dismissive, because I really thought it was a joke.”

Kate reportedly bought the muslin blanket herself from a London store. It costs about $28 for a single blanket or $49.95 for a four-pack, and is sold at mid-range department stores like Nordstrom

The affordable brand is also big with celebrities like "Parks and Recreation" star Amy Poehler, and Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila Alves.

Of course, the craze for all things Kate and baby is not likely to die down as the tot gets older. Eventually, tiny boots, coats, and hats will be fawned over on parent blogs with the same gusto that Kate's every fashion choice is followed by fashionistas.

It's the "Kate Effect," and it's not going anywhere.

Jeff Bezos Buys The Washington Post For $250 Million

Jeff Bezos Amazon

Jeff Bezos, CEO and founder of Amazon, has bought the Washington Post for $250 million.

The newspaper's website is carrying a story with details of the deal, which will include the Post and some of its affiliated publications, including El Tiempo Latino, the Express newspaper and The Gazette Newspapers.

The deal was made personally by Bezos — Amazon was not involved. The news organization had previously been owned by the Graham family for four generations.

“The Post could have survived under the company’s ownership and been profitable for the foreseeable future. But we wanted to do more than survive. I’m not saying this guarantees success but it gives us a much greater chance of success," Donald Graham said in an interview with the Post.

In a letter to the employees, Bezos says he won't be "leading the Washington Post day-to-day" and that the Post's current leadership team will be staying on.

"With Mr. Bezos as our owner, we enter a new era and embrace an exciting future," Katherine Weymouth, the current publisher and CEO of the Washington Post, wrote today in a letter to readers. Weymouth, a member of the Graham family, also said that she was staying with the paper. "I look forward to it, and I firmly believe you should as well."

The deal does not include the Washington Post Company's non-publication assets, such as Kaplan, Post–Newsweek Stations and Cable ONE. It also will not include certain publications, including Slate magazine, TheRoot.com and Foreign Policy.

The Washington Post Company will change its name and continue as a publicly-traded company under another name.

Bezos' Amazon company is the world's largest internet retailer, reporting sales of $61 billion in 2012. This has resulted in a large personal fortune for its founder — Forbes says Bezos is worth $25.2 billion, making him the 19th richest man in the world.

This post will be updated as we find out more...

The Poster For Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Movie About A Porn Addict Is Terrible Compared To The Trailer

0
0

don jon posterSelling Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut, Don Jon, is going to be complicated.

Not because the movie’s bad. It isn’t. But Gordon-Levitt casts himself as a lothario handicapped by his addiction to hardcore, graphic pornography … and that doesn’t necessarily speak to the theatergoers in the Midwest, so to speak.

So it’s understandable that Relativity Media would go with this safe, bland, somewhat generic headshot-montage poster to start preparing Don Jonfor the masses. Credit goes to EW.com for being able to share it first.

I mean, Relativity couldn’t necessarily put naked chicks on the first Don Jon poster. But maybe the studio could have suggested the character’s online obsessions through its poster imagery, because this very easily could be a movie for one of the cheesy, predictable rom-coms Scarlett Johansson’s adores.

In Don Jon, JGL plays a club rat who trolls Jersey’s hottest bars in search of an ideal mate. He finally finds one in ScarJo, but is unwilling to ease up on his online compulsions just because he eventually ends up in a semi-serious relationship.

Moore’s presence on the poster is deceiving. She does play an important role in Jon’s emotional development. But I much rather would have liked to see Tony Danza’s head in a character square on the poster, as his lecherous, domineering father is a far more memorable part of Gordon-Levitt’s ensemble. Then again, I understand that Danza on a poster isn’t going to sell a ton of movie tickets. Word of mouth on Danza’s terrific performance, however, might help Don Jon earn award nominations and, possibly, trophies.

Relativity scooped up Don Jon back when it was called Don Jon’s Addiction, playing the Sundance and South By Southwest film festivals. It’s planning to drop the movie into theaters on Sept. 27, where a successful run through arthouse venues could help position the film for Golden Globes and Independent Spirit Awards competitions. Would Oscar ever wake up and recognize the accomplishments of JGL’s strong, confident directorial debut? Unlikely. The subject matter is too risqué for the Academy, despite the fact that Danza, Johansson and Gordon-Levitt give some of the most remarkable performances of their careers. Don Jonneeds to be on your radar as the busy fall film season gets underway. Don’t let this poster fool you into believing that JGL has created something conventional with his film. He has learned more than a few storytelling tricks from the likes of Christopher Nolan, Rian Johnson and other top directors with whom he has collaborated over the years.

As you digest the poster, here’s the latest trailer for Don Jon. Look for updates on the film as it heads to theaters in the coming weeks.

People Are Boycotting Shark Week Because Of A Fake Documentary About A Giant Shark

0

Megalodon lives evidence

A "mockumentary" about the ancient giant shark Megalodon, called Megalodon: The Monster Shark That Lives, has created an uproar by their viewers, and by the science and science-loving community.

Science bloggers are very upset that the "science" channel was spreading lies about sharks, and even actor-nerd Will Wheaton suggested the the Discovery Channel owed its viewers an apology. Its viewers are using social media — including Facebook and Twitter— to voice their outrage.

This is very similar to another fake documentary, which claimed that Mermaids existed, that aired on Animal Planet a few months ago. The documentaries hire actors to play scientists and create false footage that they call "found" to tell their story. And it's just that — a made up story about as real as a sharknado.

Will Wheaton said:

Last night, Discovery Channel betrayed that trust during its biggest viewing week of the year. Discovery Channel isn’t run by stupid people, and this was not some kind of mistake. Someone made a deliberate choice to present a work of fiction that is more suited for the SyFy channel as a truthful and factual documentary. That is disgusting, and whoever made that decision should be ashamed.

Discover Magazine blogger Christie Wilcox wrote:

Megalodon: The Monster Shark That Lives was not just a disservice to your genuinely curious audience. It was a lie. You used your reputation to deceive your viewers, and you didn’t even apologize for it.

At least the faux Mermaids documentaries on Animal Planet flashed a brief disclaimer explaining that they were false. Megalodon: The Monster Shark That Lives had no such warning. Instead, you did the exact opposite.

As many have noted, there's plenty of awesome things to say about the megalodon, without resorting to making up lies. The only mention that the movie was fiction is a short five-second disclaimer at the beginning of the show which even hedges that "sightings of [a supposed megalodon] continue to this day."

Here's some of the evidence they present. An "image from WWII archives, of a giant shark with a 64 foot tail to dorsal fin span":

Megalodon lives evidence This disturbing image of a giant whale missing it's tail, which, they say "couldn't have been done by any known shark"... only by something th sizes of Megalodon:

Megalodon lives evidence And another image, of a giant shark attacking a whale:

Megalodon lives evidence Hopefully they take the chance to explain themselves during the live aftershow tonight.

Hollywood's 10 Biggest Political Donors

J.J. Abrams Katie McGrath

The next big national elections may not be for another year, but Hollywood types aren't sitting on their wallets until then -- Jeffrey Katzenberg, J.J. Abrams, Alan Horn, Tom Rothman and James L. Brooks are among those already donating big bucks to political organizations and candidates of their choice.

The Top 20 showbiz donors have already shelled out an estimated $1.45 million collectively this year, according to an analysis provided to TheWrap from the Center for Responsive Politics.

Florida music producer Bill Edwards and his wife Joanne led the list with $164,800 donated to Republicans, according to the latest figures for the year. But most of the Hollywood money has gone to Democrats.

See which celebs have donated to which politicians >

Jeffrey Katzenberg and his wife Marilyn, the second largest givers, have forked over $137,600 to Democratic campaigns and committees -- including $100,000 to the Senate Majority Political Action Committee, which seeks to elect Democrats to the U.S. Senate.

"Star Trek" and "Star Wars" director Abrams and his wife, Katie McGrath, have given $117,200 -- the third largest -- all to Democrats.

Their contributions include $32,400 to the Democratic National Committee; $10,200 to Minnesota Sen. Al Franken’s re-election effort; $5,000 for Newark Mayor Corey Booker’s race for the U.S. Senate; and $5,000 for Alaskan Sen. Mark Begich’s re-election campaign.

Walt Disney Studios Chairman Horn and his wife Cindy, former Fox exec Rothman and his wife Jessica, and producer-director Brooks, all also gave money to Democrats.

Republicans are getting some entertainment money, too -- but from media execs outside Hollywood. Hubbard Broadcasting CEO Stanley Hubbard and his wife Karen, the fourth largest givers, have given $110,800 overall with all but $10,400 donated to Republicans.

top showbiz donors political party

The rankings are based on the latest Federal Election Commission data, which can run several months behind, according to Douglas H. Weber, senior researcher for the center. June and July contributions, when finally incorporated, could affect the rankings.

Democrats have actively courted Hollywood givers this year, with two fundraisers featuring President Obama among the most high-profile outreach activities. In May, Harvey Weinstein hosted a New York fundraiser while Chernin Group CEO Peter Chernin hosted his Santa Monica fundraiser in June.

Neither Chernin nor Weinstein yet show up as contributors in FEC data.

The Democratic National Committee reported it drew contributions in May and June of $32,400 each from Susan St. James, TV producer Jonathan Littman, Uma Thurman, Jamie Alter (the wife of Sony CEO Michael Lynton), Disney CEO Robert Iger and HBO Programming President Michael Lombardo.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said its contributions in June included $32,400 from producer Marcy Carsey and $64,800 from Act 4 Entertainment’s David and Susan Johnson.

The top 20 showbiz contributors includes not only Hollywood producers and execs, but cable and satellite execs. It also includes a Broadway producer, a top entertainment lawyer and several broadcast TV execs.

10. Chairman of a major broadcasting company, Joseph Field and his wife Marie have given hundreds of thousands to Democratic candidates and groups.

Besides serving as board chairman of big radio broadcaster Entercom Communications, Joseph Field and his wife Marie are major contributors to Democratic candidates and groups.

In the 2012 election cycle, their more than $520,000 in contributions included nearly $200,000 to Priorities USA Action and nearly $104,000 to the Democratic National Committee. This year each gave $32,400 to the Democratic National Committee.

9. TriStar exec Tom Rothman and wife Jessica give big to Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Former Fox executive Tom Rothman and his wife gave $111,000 last cycle to Democrats and they are giving again this time.

The contributions so far include $32,400 contributions from Tom Rothman to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democratic National Committee.

8. Broadcasting big-shot Albert J. Kaneb didn't disappoint with his hefty donation to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

Barnstable Broadcasting CEO Albert J. Kaneb has consistently given to Democrats, including $116,000 in the last election cycle.

This year Kaneb's contributions include $32,400 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

CBS CEO Les Moonves, Who Made ~$70 Million Last Year, Scoffs At Latest Time Warner Offer

0

Les Moonves

(Reuters) - CBS Corp Chief Executive Officer Les Moonves on Tuesday rejected the latest proposal by Time Warner Cable Inc to end its blackout of the network's shows.

Moonves said in a letter to Time Warner Cable CEO Glenn Britt that the proposal, released on Monday, was a distraction and not "sincere or helpful." He also called the cable company's offer to sell CBS channels to subscribers one-by-one on an "a la carte" basis an "empty gesture" and unrealistic.

In the three-page letter released to the media on Tuesday, Moonves asked Time Warner Cable to return to the negotiating table and "talk about the real issues that separate us."

The blackout of CBS' owned stations and cable networks on Time Warner Cable's systems in the largest U.S. markets, New York and Los Angeles, is now in its fourth day. It has deprived viewers of summer hit "Under the Dome" and live sports such as golf that air on the broadcast network.

Shares of CBS were up 0.2 percent at $53.99 in early trading, while Time Warner Cable fell 0.5 percent to $115.89.
