"Germany's Next Top Model" had quite the dramatic finish during its Thursday night finale.

For reasons still unknown, two topless young women ambushed host Heidi Klum, running up onstage with their arms up and the words "Heidi Horror Picture Show" written on their upper bodies.

It all happened after Heidi Klum (on stilts) kissed this robot.

'Twilight' Parody Movie Suing The Original For $500 Million

Someone's trying to take a big bite out of the "Twilight" vampire movie franchise. A $500 million bite, to be exact.

Filmmaker Between the Lines is suing "Twilight" studio Summit Entertainment and its parent company, Lionsgate Entertainment, seeking half a billion dollars in an anti-trust complaint.

Also read: 'Twilight' Reunion: CBS Picks Up Legal Drama 'Reckless'

In the suit obtained by TheWrap, Between the Lines accused Lionsgate and Summit of employing "a vexatious legal strategy that seeks to collapse every conceivable intellectual property right granted by trademark or copyright law" in an effort to quash "Twilight" parodies and other products that play off of the hugely successful vampire series.

Between the Lines claims that it produced a "Twilight" parody movie, "Twiharder," that used the "Twilight" story "as an object of ridicule, criticism and sociopolitical commentary."

In the run-up to the release of last year's "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2," the lawsuit claims, "Twiharder" drew interest from distributors, and a deal was struck with one of them.

However, the complaint alleges, after Lionsgate and Summit sent out a "sham 'cease-and-desist' C&D notice," the distributor pulled out of licensing the film.

Also read: 'Twilight: Breaking Dawn 2' Runs Away With Razzies

The suit suggests that "Twiharder" falls within the "Fair Use Zones" that are "populated by independent filmmakers, parodists and other 'counter-cultural' artists who create separate or derivative works that may be related to, inspired by or comment upon the pop culture events that dominate the national Cineplex and, by extension the attitudes, perspectives and behaviors of the populace."

Between the Lines is seeking a total of $500 million in damages, stemming from two of the lawsuit's five counts.

Lionsgate and Summit had no comment for TheWrap on the suit.

Watch the trailer for "Twiharder" below.

Matthew Rhys: The Americans 'Scripts Go To The CIA For Approval'

$
0
0

Matthew Rhys Keri RussellMost actors are good at deception.

But Matthew Rhys - a Welshman playing a Russian pretending to be American - takes things to extremes in ITV's new US spy thriller, The Americans. He talks to Craig McLean.

It’s a busy day in London for Matthew Rhys.

He’s fresh off the plane from New York where, just last night, he finished shooting the last episode of the first series of the show that’s made him the latest British hit on American TV .

Right now, we’re having a Chinese lunch in Victoria. But this morning the easygoing actor presented himself at the visa section of the Mongolian embassy. Having grown up with horses in Wales, the 38-year-old periodically embarks on epic equine vacations. He’s “done” Patagonia, where he also filmed a documentary on the 150-year-old Welsh community there, and in 2011 rode with Bedouin in Jordan. Next stop: Ulan Bator. Just the currently single Rhys, some Mongolian herdsman and the romance of horseback.

All of which explains the fresh batch of Moleskine journals in his satchel.

“I have rose-tinted visions of myself as Hemingway,” says Rhys, a veteran of the Pamplona bull run and a cowboy camp in Arizona (at the latter, he was smashed in the nose while learning to rope steers).

The last time we saw Rhys on television, he was playing two characters. In the feature-length drama The Scapegoat, the Welshman was both Johnny Spence, a cad of an upper-class factory-owner, and also his unfortunate doppelganger, John Standing, an unassuming schoolteacher. In this adaptation of the Daphne du Maurier’s 1957 novel, Rhys was riveting in the dual roles. “It was a real hark-back,” he says now. “And it was a real gift, that part.” Playing two men - identical, but at the same time, not - in one drama. How many actors have the opportunity to do that?

Nine months on from The Scapegoat, Rhys might have cause to yearn for the simplicity of just the two performances. In The Americans, a slick, gripping new import from the US channel FX, Rhys plays Philip Jennings. On the surface, he’s an ordinary resident of suburban Washington: loving wife, two children, satisfyingly quotidian job as a travel agent.

But this is 1981, the beginnings of the Ronald Regan presidency, and the Cold War is hotting up. Philip and Elizabeth are far from the happy matrimonial couple — theirs was an arranged marriage, brokered by the KGB. They are deep cover Russian spies, implanted in the United States over a decade ago.

Talk about playing multiple roles. Even Rhys’s most high-profile film appearance, in John Maybury’s The Edge Of Love (2008), was more straightforward. And that featured him playing Dylan Thomas as one-quarter of a love quadrangle involving Keira Knightley, Sienna Miller and Cillian Murphy. The Americans is tricksier still. On the surface it’s a high-octane thriller, a series that reboots the enemy-within excitement of Homeland .

But, again like Homeland, it’s the human story the counts.

“That was the greater attraction for me, the relationship,” agrees Rhys in a Welsh accent undimmed by seven years’ full-time living in Los Angeles.“When I first read the script, I just thought, this is insane. I’ve never seen a relationship like this: an arranged marriage where, when we meet Philip and Elizabeth, the boundaries are blurring, in the fog of this ridiculous duplicity of lies — the extremity they have to live in, then balancing that with the domestic tension. It was that multi-layered aspect of it that grabbed me. Then on top of that, you stick a spy thriller, a bit of action. So,” he beams, “it’s got the lot.”

In the pilot episode, the first flashpoint for the Jennings is on the home front. Confronted with orders from Moscow to “deal with” a KGB officer on the verge of defecting to the CIA, Philip admits to Elizabeth that he, too, would like to cross over to the other side. All this time in America, raising a family — even their children are oblivious to their parents’ true identities — has caused him to go native.

On top of that, Philip has developed genuine feelings for his pretend wife. Both revelations are anathema to Elizabeth. She remains stoutly loyal to the Motherland, and to their mission protocols — even if this means sleeping with a government employee in a honey-trap sting, much to Philip’s dismay.

“It’s great,” nods the Rada-trained actor, previously best-known in America for his five seasons on primetime drama Brothers & Sisters, in which he played a gay lawyer. “They set up so much conflict in the first episode.”

The Americans is a period drama, and the early-Eighties setting is vivid and funny at the same time: big hair, terrible knitwear, no mobile phones, spycraft that looks quaint in this era of computerised espionage.

Historical events play pivotal plot points. One early episode revolves around the March 1981 shooting of Reagan. In the show, the Jennings have to quickly find out whether Reagan is going to die, and how close a rattled White House are to blaming the Russians and pressing the button for a nuclear retaliation.

“The truth around that is that [Secretary of State Alexander] Haig took over the nuclear football,” says Rhys of the briefcase containing the orders to launch a missile strike. “But there were also pass-codes that the President had to keep on him at all times. And when they got Reagan on the operating theatre, they cut off his clothes and his shoes. And hours later, they were clearing away his stuff, and they found this bit of card with numbers on it that had been stuffed inside his shoe. And it was the pass-codes to the nuclear football!” Rhys laughs. “And you just think, that’s all there was - this bit of card!”

Some of this insider knowledge within The Americans is courtesy of Joe Weisberg. The series creator, he’s a former CIA agent. Did he come bristling with top-secret intel to aid his leading man? “Yes and no. You can quiz him on it, you can push him on it. And he is open, a bit But he is a very interesting man. Of course, the CIA is about people who blend in — they’re not special forces jocks.

"But yeah, Joe was a big help. He was good about showing us counter-surveillance, which is mainly what our characters would have been doing — making sure you’re not being followed.” Rhys also watched the 24-part 1998 documentary series Cold War, narrated by Kennetth Branagh. “Research has just changed so much since YouTube came about,” he smiles.

Weisberg likes to tell the story of being vetted for the CIA, a process that is, says Rhys, about two years long. “Joe got to the final polygraph test. And one of the last questions from the profiler is: are you interested in joining the CIA in order to gain information to write about it fictionally or otherwise afterwards?”

Weisberg was already an amateur writer, but genuinely hadn’t thought of that. “And in that moment,” continues Rhys, “he went, ‘oh, brilliant idea!’

Then he went, ‘argh!’ His heart started going and he started panicking and he thought he might fail the polygraph because he now had that thought. But he passed it, and he got in, then served his time.

“But all the scripts for our show go to the CIA,” Rhys adds. “They have to, for approval.” This seems to be part of Weisberg’s deal with his former employers. He tells me that he avoided “writing a word about intelligence for about a decade after I left the Agency..” When he eventually wrote The Americans, that was only the beginning of the hard work. Finding an actor who could play Jennings was a tall order.

“This is not an easy part,” says Weisberg. “This character has to be a dedicated KGB officer. He has to be a killer — just able to ruthlessly kill people when necessary. Then he has to be able to turn around and be a loving, warm father. We had to find somebody who could really make that believable — its not some actor doing it on TV, it’s a real person. And that was not an easy thing to find.”

First the Welshman had to audition with Keri Russell. The actress, an American sweetheart courtesy of her role in feelgood JJ Abrams series Felicity, was already onboard in what Rhys describes as a “shrewd” piece of casting by programme-makers FX.

“They didn’t go for archetypal leading actress, which is great. Keri’s loved in the States — and here she’s this cold bitch who kills people. Or, hurts people. Or f---- them then kills them ” Both Weisberg and Rhys recount a key moment in the audition process. During the read-through of a husband/wife argument scene, the pilot’s director quietly told Russell to properly slap Rhys.

“And she whacked him!” laughs Weisberg. “Probably five times harder than you see in the pilot. She hit him so hard that after she did it she sort of leapt back in surprise.

“But anyway, Matthew wasn’t expecting that - and he didn’t even flinch. And it was this kind of electric moment, and you saw that somewhere within him was this incredibly tough character. Just in that moment he looked like a KGB officer. Like a killer. Then in the next moment he was able to be this husband having a fight with his wife. He just had it all, and we knew it was him.”

It’s all a long way from Cardiff, Welsh-language schooling and an abiding passion for rugby. Rhys is the son of chapel-going teachers who encouraged him in his performing arts ambitions. He followed schoolfriend Ioan Gruffudd to London and drama school. The future star of Hornblower, one year older than Rhys, secured a place at Rada a year ahead of him, and the pair later shared a flat in London. Gruffudd is now married to actress Alice Evans, yet Rhys remains a bachelor.

There was a rumoured fling with his Edge Of Love co-star Miller, but of his current singlehood he says with a twinkle, “well, there’s perks to it. It’s not all bad...” he grins. “Much to my mother’s madness.” Eventually, at the urging of an American agent, Rhys decided to make a go of it in Hollywood. Almost immediately he was offered a role in Julie Taymor’s Shakespeare adaptation Titus (1999) with Anthony Hopkins and Jessica Lange.

“I thought, f------ hell, LA’s great — you just rock up and get huge movies with big movie stars. Then that never happened again for years after “ Eventually he landed the role on ABC’s Brothers & Sisters, and became famous enough for the details of his 2008 Los Angeles house purchase to become public knowledge. If you’re interested, the property covers 1321 square feet, and includes a gourmet kitchen with stainless steel appliances, dark hardwood floors, spa-like bathrooms and a wooden deck. And three bedrooms.

“Amazing isn’t it?” he says with a shrug. But he admits it did feel odd and intrusive “and really creepy.” He sighs. “There was a whole brouhaha because your agent says, ‘things are going well’, so I bought a house. And they said, ‘make sure you buy it through your company name, get the realtor to sing something ’ And at the time I was like, ‘shut up! It’ll be fine ’ “Then I had a bit of a moment,” he says carefully, “when I was doing Brother & Sisters, someone found out [my address].” A fan sent things to his home, then he began turning up at events Rhys was attending.

“And Disney, who own ABC, take their security very seriously — they have all these ex-military intelligence men who wear badges with a picture of Mickey Mouse that says, ‘Keeping The Magic Safe,’” he says with a sardonic eyebrow. “They took care of it. They probably killed him...”.

With The Americans a critical and ratings hit, Rhys now has a new kind of fame in America. Rhys, who will soon step into Colin Firth’s breeches as Mr Darcy in a BBC “sequel” to Pride and Prejudice, is but the latest Briton taking a totemic role in a US drama.

Old Etonian Damian Lewis is the traitorous US Marine Sergeant-turned-Congressman in Homeland, and Egg-from-This-Life — Andrew Lincoln — is the gun-slinging southern sheriff battling zombies in The Walking Dead. And now here’s Rhys: another foreigner disguised as an American actor, playing a foreigner disguised as an American. Perfect casting, no?

“Quite possibly!” he laughs. “The last job I did was five years pretending to be a gay American lawyer. So I had that preparation for free.” No agency - not MI5, the KGB, not the CIA; not even the BBC - could have trained him better.

The Americans is on at 10pm, ITV, Saturdays

Sorry, The Idea That You Will Be Able To Get Rid Of Cable And Watch Your Favorite TV Shows Is A Fantasy

Television TV

Microsoft's Ben Thompson has written two posts on his blog explaining why why the so-called "bundled model" of cable programming –– in which we are forced to pay for every channel, instead of picking just the ones we want –– is here to stay.

In the first post, Thompson illustrates why we can't simply choose our favorite channels and pay for them individually using the example of ESPN.

Under the current model, every household pays about $5 to have ESPN included with their cable subscription. Since fewer than 5% of households actually watch ESPN, each of these households would have to pay about $100 each month if they wanted to get it by itself for ESPN to generate the same amount of revenue.

In his second post, Thompson explains why we can't just pay the networks directly for creating content (except, of course, Netflix). Here, he makes an analogy to Silicon Valley: the networks are like venture capital firms who invest in perhaps ten companies while expecting nine of them to fail.

Channels like AMC are able to make big bets like investing $2.7 million per episode of Mad Men because the affiliate fees they get from the cable networks give them the capital they need to take risks. While the big profits come from the hit shows like Mad Men and Breaking Bad, they wouldn't dare risk such sums on these groundbreaking programs to begin with if they could only rely on ads and direct sales through venues like iTunes and Amazon.

Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman's latest stint in rehab wasn't research for a role.

The 45-year-old, married father of three spoke to TMZ confirming reports that he "just got out of detox for a drug problem that was spinning out of control."

While Hoffman says he has struggled with substance abuse in the past but has been clean for the past 23 years, he fell off the wagon more than a year ago.

He revealed to TMZ that it started slowly with prescription pills but recently escalated to snorting heroin.

Hoffman admits the heroin use only went on for about a week before realizing he needed help and checking himself into a detox facility on the East Coast.

After a 10-day stint in rehab, "The Master" actor checked out last Friday and is already back on a movie set shooting in Europe.

Hoffman tells TMZ he credits "a great group of friends and family" for helping him seek the treatment he needed to get better.

Matthew McConaughey Allegedly Almost Went Blind From Starving Himself — Here's Why

$

Matthew McConaughey Sundance

Matthew McConaughey almost went blind while starving himself for his new role as an HIV-positive man in the upcoming move "The Dallas Buyer's Club," according to an unnamed source who talked to InTouch Weekly.

According to EntertainmentWise, the actor's representative says that there is 'no truth' to the claims.

The actor did lose about 50 pounds for his role by surviving on two diet Cokes, egg whites, and a piece of chicken every day, he told The Daily Mirror back in April. It's possible that McConaughey was being deprived of several essential vitamins and minerals during his three-month diet and could explain his alleged loss of vision.

While it may not have been the case for the star, severe malnutrition can cause vision changes.

Starvation and malnutrition can cause severe night blindness, since our bodies rely on nutrients to function correctly. Night blindness is just what it sounds like — your night vision is severely limited.

Our eyes use proteins that contain a special chemical called retinol that turns photons — packets of light — into electrical signals that are transmitted to the brain, where we understand them as pictures.

Retinol specifically works in low-light situations. In the 1920s researchers discovered that to make retinol we need Vitamin A [PDF] which we get from the beta-carotene in our food. When someone is malnourished, they likely aren't getting enough Vitamin A to make retinol, so they start losing their sight.

This could be what happened to McConaughey, though we can't know for sure. He's since regained weight and his alleged vision problems have disappeared.

Beta-carotene is found in vegetables like carrots, and is what give them their orange color. It's also in most multivitamins. Vitamin A deficiency is a big problem in Africa and Southeast Asia, according to the Helen Keller International.

When kids grow up without enough Vitamin A they can be blind for life. Every year 670,000 children will die from Vitamin A deficiency, and 350,000 will go blind, the Non-Governmental Organization says.

Buzz Aldrin Calls Out A Major Flaw In Will Smith's New Space Movie

after earth

Will Smith's new space movie, "After Earth," is out in theaters now.

In the movie, the Smith men set out from the home planet in a spaceship, which explodes while in transit.

The two get stuck on Earth, as it will be 1,000 years in the future, after humans have left.

The problem. according to former Astronaut and moon walker Buzz Aldrin, is the noise. He told the AP: "There was a lot of noise. In space, you don't get that much noise."

While on Earth sound propagates well through the molecules in the air, scenes in space should be soundless, since there are no molecules in a vacuum to transmit sound. That means, the crash that stranded the Smiths should have been soundless.

Now you know.

Heidi Klum topless protestor

On Thursday, topless protestors stormed the stage during the finale of Heidi Klum's "Germany's Next Top Model."

No one knew exactly why the two young women interrupted the show to display their chests inscribed with "Heidi Horror Picture Show."

But now, the women  known as "FEMEN" — have taken to their (NSFW) Facebook page to explain their actions and post further photos and video from the nude protest.

In the post, the women write that they ambushed the "Germany's Next Top Model" stage because they feel "The program format is pimp-show where world-famous supermodel Heidi Klum plays the role of 'mom' and forms a bevy of underage girls to fashion-fools."

The post goes on to say, "FEMEN regards the fashion industry as an element of pimp business and has consistently opposed the commercialization of the female body."

Because, they write, women in the fashion business are "Fooled by fashion propoganda, failed by fashion models, women regularly join the ranks of sex workers, and psychiatric patients. Stop the fashion business! Stop Prostitution!"

Inside Will Smith’s Plans To Make Son Jaden A Super-Star

$

0

Will Smith Jaden Smith After Earth

Will Smith has been one of the biggest movie stars on the planet for two decades, but this weekend he'll take a back seat for one of the first times in his career – to his own son.

"After Earth" is Smith's first non-sequel since "Seven Pounds," but the actor actually conceived the story as a potential franchise that would spawn its own sequels.

Yet unlike "Bad Boys" or "Men in Black," in which Smith was the star, the franchise was designed to ensure the ascent of Jaden Smith, not Will. It's just one of the projects the rapper-turned-movie-star has developed for his children with actress Jada Pinkett Smith and her brother Caleeb Pinkett through his Overbrook Entertainment production company.

See photos'After Earth' to 'Whip My Hair': The Smith Family Showbiz Scrapbook

Will Smith, who first became Hollywood royalty in "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" before moving over to film, has a much smaller part in "After Earth" than his progeny. According to an individual familiar with the planning of the movie, "After Earth" was envisioned as a trilogy.

By the time a third installment arrives in theaters, "Will will be too old to be an action star and Jaden will be just entering his prime," the individual told TheWrap.

Almost every element of the movie's website, from its trailer to its explanation of this futuristic world, begins with Jaden. The marketing campaign for the M. Night Shyamalan directed movie bears a striking similarity to earlier campaigns for Will Smith movies.

In 2008, Will Smith appeared in two movies, "Seven Pounds" and ‘Hancock," that grossed a combined $792 million. Both of their posters consisted of nothing more than Smith's mug, his name and the movie's title. His visage, inscrutable yet familiar, distant yet desirable, was all it took to bring fans to the theater.

Also read5 Breakout Movie Stars of Summer 2013

Now check out the poster for "After Earth." (pictured: above)

"You walk away thinking it looks like a great action movie starring Will Smith and his son and that his son is a legitimate star," a former marketing executive at a major studio toldTheWrap. "They did a great job of legitimizing him as a star without starting a conversation about why he should be legitimate. They show him flying through the air with this futuristic wing suit and people forget that is the same kid who was in 'Pursuit of Happyness.'"

Yet if Jaden is the focus of "After Earth," Will is the supportive parent -- literally. It is the second films in which he plays Jaden's father and the third he has produced, the third being none other than the hit "Karate Kid" remake starring Jaden.

"Overbook exists for the greater glory of Will and Jaden," one individual with knowledge of the company told TheWrap.

The Jaden Smith business is Will Smith's business, and Will Smith's business is the family business. The inclusive approach extends well beyond Jaden.

Overbrook acquired the rights to turn musical "Annie" into a film from Jay-Z’s film company, and the initial plan was for Will's daughter Willow (near left with Jaden) to star as the titular orphan. Already a successful singer who appeared with her father in "I Am Legend," she was deemed a natural fit after the success of her song "Whip My Hair."

Also read8 Burning Box Office Questions

Yet Willow eventually decided that she wanted to be a kid, practicing ballet and playing baseball. "Beasts of the Southern Wild" star Quvenzhane Wallis replaced her in the lead role.

Smith's brother-in-law Caleeb is the lead producer on "After Earth" and has assumed a growing role at Overbrook, which is run by Smith and his long-time producing partner James Lassiter. Pinkett co-wrote and developed the movie -- "The Legend of Cain" -- as the next act of the elder Smith's career -- the "Clint Eastwood part."

Smith would have starred in and directed "Cain," one of several movies where he began to relinquish his action hero belt and pursue more diverse films. The project, like so many in Hollywood, is still in development.

Caleeb's gradual ascension within Overbrook comes at the same time that many key employees have departed the Sony-based outfit, including partner Ken Stovitz – who now represents Jada and Jaden Smith as an agent at Paradigm – COO Guy Primus and Black List founder Franklin Leonard.

Though Smith's representatives declined to comment on the record for this story or about dynamics at Overbrook, one individual close to the company suggested that anyone who says his ascension and those departures are related is merely bitter.

Overbrook declined to comment for this story, as did many of the people TheWrap contacted for this story. Smith is both powerful and well-liked, but guards his privacy; case in point, departing Overbrook employees must sign a non-disclosure agreement. People speak when permitted.

Privately, people said they feel Smith's efforts to work with his family and develop projects for them have been unobtrusive and sincere, contrasting his efforts favorably with certain reality show families.

(Cough *Kardashians* Cough).

When New York magazine asked Smith about one such showbiz family -- that would be the Kardashians -- he said that fame was not the name of the game in his family.

"We are trying to put great things into the world, we're trying to have fun, and we're trying to become the greatest versions of ourselves in the process of doing things we love," he told the magazine. "So the idea of fame or exploitation or orchestrating the media is sometimes even less than desirable for us."

He pointed out that Willow decided to bow out of "Annie" after they acquired the property for her, and they supported that decision.

"It may seem like we have pushed our kids into the business, but that is absolutely insane," he told the magazine. Jaden, he added, is making an informed decision to take on these high-profile roles.

Yet even Smith acknowledges that he approaches his business like a family business, and his business is one where celebrity and fame come whether you want it or not.

Jaden has embraced stardom with the same relish his father does, and became one of the youngest stars to court a following in the booming Chinese market when he starred in "The Karate Kid." The Smiths spent a great deal of time traveling through the country, aware of the all-important international box office.

With "After Earth," Overbrook again tried to tap into an emerging part of the business, even hiring someone to do transmedia specifically for the film.

"Jaden can get things done in this town," one manager who works with younger stars told TheWrap. "People like him and 'The Karate Kid' did so well internationally that he means something. Because of that, if 'After Earth' does any kind of business, he's golden."

Jaden has not booked the next film on his schedule, which could range from various projects in development at Overbrook to a sequel to "After Earth" – if it performs.

Few expect the movie to be a huge hit domestically (factoring in its hefty budget), but Smith will use his enduring appeal overseas to make the movie profitable. Will that be enough to spawn a sequel, er, dynasty?

Stay tuned.

Blade runner

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Veteran scribe Michael Green ("Green Lantern") is moving from superheroes to replicants, as he's in negotiations to write the sequel to "Blade Runner" for Alcon Entertainment and directorRidley Scott's production company Scott Free, an individual familiar with the Warner Bros. project has toldTheWrap.

Representatives for Alcon and Green did not immediately respond to TheWrap's request for comment.

While Alcon hasn't officially revealed whether "Blade Runner" will be a sequel or a prequel to the original 1982 movie, an individual familiar with the sci-fi project has told TheWrap it will be set some years after the conclusion of the influential first film.

Scott will return to direct the "Blade Runner" sequel, and he's courting Harrison Ford to reprise his role as Rick Deckard.

Scott is producing with Alcon co-founders Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove, as well as Bud Yorkin andCynthia Sikes Yorkin. Thunderbird Films CEOs Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble will serve as executive producers.

Released by Warner Bros. more than 30 years ago, "Blade Runner" was adapted by Hampton Fancher and David Peoples from Philip K. Dick's groundbreaking novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" and directed by Scott following his landmark "Alien." The film was nominated for two Academy Awards and led to numerous feature adaptations of Dick's other works.

Green, who got his start writing for "Smallville" and "Heroes," previously wrote "Green Lantern" and "The Flash" for Warners and DC Entertainment. He also wrote the epic Moses movie "Gods and Kings" for WB. He's repped by WME, 3 Arts Entertainment and Felker Toczek Gellman Suddleson.

Some Incredible Cars Are Joining The Cast Of 'Transformers 4'

Director Michael Bay has confirmed that Transformers 4 will feature a new cast including Mark Wahlberg, but it appears some new vehicles will also join the Autobots on the big screen.

According to photos posted to the official Transformers Facebook fan page today, it appears the new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse will join the Autobots.

And after three movies it's apparently time for Optimus Prime to receive an upgrade, too, with a new design featuring a massive power bulge on the hood, six exhaust stacks along with two side pipes, and a snazzy new flame paint job.

The C7 Corvette Stingray appears to be sporting Chevrolet's Synergy Green paint, unannounced wheels, body skit, graphics package, and a large rear wing. Let's not forget about the concept-car mirrors. While we could do without all the extra stuff seen on this C7 Corvette, we do kind of like this green paint and hope it'll become an option later in the C7's model cycle.

The Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse features 1,200 horsepower and 1,106 pound-feet of torque. That should be more than enough power to outrun any Decepticon that it may encounter, that is unless it can hit 255 mph.

While there clearly will be a few new Autobots on the screen, it appears Bumlebee will be going retro as a highly modified 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS. This won't be the first time in the Transformers saga that Bumblebee is a vintage Camaro. For those who remember, Bumblebee was originally a 1977 Camaro in the first film before changing into a Camaro Concept.

Transformers 4 will hit cinemas nationwide on June 27, 2014. Stay tuned for more updates.

Michael Douglas Says His Cancer Was Caused By Oral Sex

Michael Douglas "Wall Street"

Basic Instinct star Michael Douglas revealed that his throat cancer was apparently caused by performing oral sex.

In a surprisingly frank interview with the Guardian, the Hollywood actor, now winning plaudits in the Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra, explained the background to a condition that was thought to be nearly fatal when diagnosed three years ago.

Asked whether he now regretted his years of smoking and drinking, thought to be the cause of the disease, Douglas replied: "No. Because without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV [human papillomavirus], which actually comes about from cunnilingus."

Douglas, the husband of Catherine Zeta Jones, continued: "I did worry if the stress caused by my son's incarceration didn't help trigger it. But yeah, it's a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer. And if you have it, cunnilingus is also the best cure for it."

The actor, now 68, was diagnosed with cancer in August 2010, following many months of oral discomfort. But a series of specialists missed the tumour and instead prescribed antibiotics. Douglas then went to see a friend's doctor in Montreal who looked inside his mouth using a tongue depressor.

"I will always remember the look on his face," Douglas has previously said. "He said: 'We need a biopsy.' There was a walnut-size tumour at the base of my tongue that no other doctor had seen."

Shortly afterwards he was diagnosed with stage four cancer (stage five is death) and embarked on an intensive eight-week course of chemotherapy and radiation. He refused to use a feeding tube, despite his palate being burnt on account of the treatment, and so lost 20kg (45lb) on a liquids-only diet. "That's a rough ride. That can really take it out of you," he told the Guardian. "Plus the amount of chemo I was getting, it zaps all the good stuff too. It made me very weak."

The treatment worked and Douglas is now more than two years clear of cancer. He has check-ups every six months, he said, "and with this kind of cancer, 95% of the time it doesn't come back".

The cause of Douglas's cancer had long been assumed to be related to his tobacco habit, coupled with enthusiastic boozing. In 1992, he was hospitalised for an addiction which some at the time claimed to be sex. Douglas himself denied this and said he was in rehab for alcohol abuse. He has also spoken of recreational drug use.

HPV, the sexually transmitted virus best known as a cause of cervical and anal cancer and genital warts, is thought to be responsible for an increasing proportion of oral cancers. Some propose that changes in sexual behaviour – a rise in oral sex in particular – are responsible. Such changes might be cultural, but could also be linked to fears about the safety of penetrative sex in the wake of the discovery of Aids.

Mahesh Kumar, a consultant head and neck surgeon in London, confirms that the last decade has seen a dramatic rise in this form of cancer, particularly among younger sufferers. Recent studies of 1,316 patients with oral cancer found that 57% of them were HPV-16 positive.

"It has been established beyond reasonable doubt that the HPV type 16 is the causative agent in oropharyngeal cancer," said Kumar, who also testified to increased recovery rates among this kind of cancer sufferer. This would help explain why Douglas was given an 80% chance of survival, despite the advanced stage of his illness.

However, Kumar expressed scepticism that Douglas's cancer was caused solely by HPV, and surprise at Douglas's assertion that cunnilingus could also help cure the condition. "Maybe he thinks that more exposure to the virus will boost his immune system. But medically, that just doesn't make sense."

The GP Ann Robinson expressed interest in how confirmation of this association would affect the rollout of the HPV vaccine, which is currently only available in the UK to girls aged 12 and 13. "My main priority with diagnosing a patient with oral cancer is to get them referred as early intervention can be so crucial. Asking for a detailed sexual history would be inappropriate at that stage."

Douglas has two children, aged 10 and 12, with his second wife, Catherine Zeta Jones, as well as an older son, Cameron, from a previous marriage. In 2010, Cameron was sentenced to five years in prison for drugs possession and dealing, and a year later had his sentence extended until 2018 after he pleaded guilty to possessing drugs in prison.

Douglas won his first Oscar aged 31 for producing One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, then took a second in 1987 for his performance as the ruthless capitalist Gordon Gekko in Wall Street. He won rave reviews in Cannes recently, for his portrayal of the pianist Liberace.

Later this year he will be seen alongside Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro and Kevin Kline in the Hangover-style comedy Last Vegas. He currently has four projects in pre-production, including a dramatisation of the 1986 Reykjavik summit, in which he plays the former US president Ronald Reagan.
