The cheapest way to watch March Madness if you don't have cable

March madness rodney bullock

  • For college basketball fans without cable, Sling TV is the most affordable place to watch March Madness.
  • For $25 a month, Sling TV subscribers could access TNT, TBS, and TruTV — all of which will broadcast March Madness games.
  • But to gain access to more games, it's also worth looking into CBS and CBS All Access.

With March Madness — the NCAA men's basketball spring tournament — starting next week, college basketball fans without cable might be looking for the cheapest alternative for tuning in to the games.

To save you the hassle, we did the research.

The winner? Internet TV service Sling TV, which offers a deal starting at $20 a month for over 25 channels.

sling tv

March Madness will be broadcast on TNT, TBS, TruTV, and CBS. Sling Orange, as it's called, gets you TNT and TBS, plus 20 other channels, for $20. The "Comedy" add-on will get you TruTV for an extra $5.

Sling Blue gets you TNT, TBS, and TruTV, and 40 other channels, for $25.

Sling TV customers with an Over-the-Air antenna can access CBS for free. But CBS All Access is $5.99 a month if you choose the limited commercials option.

Even if you were to pay for a month of Sling and CBS All Access, it would still be the cheapest option compared to other live-TV services. Hulu TV and PlayStation Vue both start at $39.99, and YouTube TV and DirecTV are both $35.

March Madness kicks off on March 13th.

Axl Rose called Apple CEO Tim Cook 'the Donald Trump of the music industry' (AAPL)

Guns N'Roses

  • Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose compared Apple CEO Tim Cook to Donald Trump in a single tweet.
  • He gave no follow-up explanation.
  • He really doesn't like the Trump administration.

Axl Rose, rock legend and frontman of Guns N' Roses, compared Apple CEO Tim Cook to US president Donald Trump — with no further context.

Posting on Twitter, the singer wrote: "Tim Cook is the Donald Trump of the music industry."

And that was it.

It isn't clear why Rose made the comparison, though it is obviously not intended to be flattering. This is what he wrote about Trump's administration in January: "The [White House] is the current US gold standard of what can be considered disgraceful."

Rose has been on Twitter since 2009, though his account only features 264 tweets. This appears to be the first time he's tweeted about anything related to Apple, and it isn't clear what he has against Cook. Guns N' Roses has never boycotted Apple Music, and the band's songs are available on different streaming services.

It's possible Rose shares the view of Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen, who had this to say in 2016 of streaming services: "As always, what annoys me about anything like that is that the artists get the short end of the stick. The CEO of whatever company is just rolling in it, on the pennies that others earn, they're getting gazillions of dollars."

There is one crucial purchase every PlayStation 4 owner must make — and it will save you a ton of money in the long run

$
0
0

You finally got a PlayStation 4. Finally!

But where to start?

Horizon Zero Dawn

OK, yes, definitely play "Horizon Zero Dawn."

But before even that, there's one other crucial thing you should do: Pay for an annual subscription to PlayStation Plus.

What's PlayStation Plus?

PlayStation Plus, a paid loyalty program, is a crucial addition to your PlayStation 4.

Why?

  • It enables you to play games online with other people!
  • It gives you monthly discounts on games and movies!
  • But, most important, it gives you free games every month. Free! For the duration of your subscription!

What types of games? Really great games! Like "Rocket League":

And "Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes":

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes

And "Spelunky":

Spelunky

For an annual fee ($60 a year, or $10 a month if you prefer a shorter commitment), you get what Sony calls an "Instant Game Collection."

This month, that means two insanely-great games on the PlayStation 4:

PlayStation Plus (March 2018)

These are both excellent games, to be clear, and they're games you can only play on the PlayStation 4. These are games I would strongly suggest new PS4 owners buy and play — and they're totally free this month for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

Better yet: The longer you're a member, the more games you'll get. If you want an idea for how many games this means over time, check out the running list on Wikipedia— it's an impressive library.

And that game library grows every month. As long as you continue paying for PlayStation Plus, you retain access to every game you've ever added to your library. You don't even have to download the game; you simply select "Add to Library" so you have access to the game whenever you do want to download and play it.

Pretty incredible!

So let's do some quick math:

  • "Bloodborne" normally costs $19.99.
  • "Ratchet & Clank" normally costs $19.99.

The value you get from just this month is more than half the cost of an entire year of PlayStation Plus.

If you download and play three to four games through PlayStation Plus, the service pays for itself. Anything beyond that is pure bonus value.

PlayStation Plus

One more thing: If you own a PlayStation Vita or a PlayStation 3, you'll also get free PlayStation Plus games on those platforms. Some of the games are even "cross-buy," meaning you'll get access to them across multiple PlayStation devices ("Spelunky" is this way — once you own it on one PlayStation console, you own it on all PlayStation consoles).

So remember: Before dropping hundreds of dollars on $60 games with your new PlayStation 4, snag a $60 annual subscription to PlayStation Plus. It's a smart investment.

MoviePass has removed its location tracking feature after a huge backlash from customers concerned about privacy

moviepass business insider

  • MoviePass has disabled location tracking on its app.
  • This follows privacy concerns after CEO Mitch Lowe revealed that the app is tracking what its customers are doing after leaving the movie theater.

MoviePass has removed the capability to track its customers, following privacy concerns.

According to Variety, in an iOS update of the app on Wednesday the notes stated that it has "removed unused app location capability."

The removal of location tracking comes after comments made by MoviePass CEO Mitch Lowe that sparked complaints that the app was infringing on its customers' privacy.

Lowe stated at a conference last week that the MoviePass app tracks users “in your GPS by the phone … so we watch how you drive from home to the movies," according to Media Play News. "We watch where you go afterwards, and so we know the movies you watch. We know all about you. We don’t sell that data. What we do is we use that data to market films."

This comes on the heels of the app navigating through another controversy when it terminated a "small percentage" of its customers for violating its terms of service in February. Many people who had their accounts deleted said they thought they should not have been taken off the service, and were unfairly targeted. MoviePass eventually reinstated roughly 10% of the accounts it deleted, the company told Business Insider.

In a statement to Variety on Wednesday, MoviePass stated: “Today, MoviePass released a new app update, including the removal of some unused app location capabilities. While part of our vision includes using location-based marketing to enhance the moviegoing experience for our members, we aren’t using some of that functionality today. Our members will always have the option to choose the location-based services that are right for them today and in the future.”

Meghan Markle was reportedly baptised by the Archbishop of Canterbury in a secret ceremony this week

  • Meghan Markle was reportedly baptised in a secret ceremony this week.
  • She was confirmed into the Church of England by the Archbishop of Canterbury on Tuesday.
  • While this is one tradition the American Protestant has chosen to follow before she marries Prince Harry, there are plenty she is pushing aside.

Meghan Markle was reportedly baptised into the Church of England by the Archbishop of Canterbury in a secret service on Tuesday evening.

According to the Daily Mail, 36-year-old Markle had Prince Harry at her side during the 45-minute service which took place at the Chapel Royal at St. James' Palace, and involved the "full ritual of the Church" saw holy water from the River Jordan from the private Royal Family font poured on her head.

The Chapel Royal is near and dear to the royals, as it's where Princess Diana’s body was kept the week before her funeral and was also the place of Prince George’s christening in 2013.

Princes Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall reportedly attended the baptism, but Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Her Majesty the Queen were absent.

The royal-to-be apparently had to have two "sponsors" as part of the ceremony, and chose a close girlfriend as one of them.

The baptism was followed by Markle's confirmation, which means she will be able to join Harry at Holy Communion, and the ceremony was reportedly followed by a dinner at Clarence House hosted by Charles and Camilla.

Here's a look inside the Chapel:

chapel royal

In November 2017, Kensington Palace announced that Markle, an American Protestant and divorcee, would become a British citizen and be baptised and confirmed into the Church of England before her wedding to Prince Harry.

While she did not need to become Anglican in order to marry into the family, she reportedly chose to do it out of respect for the Queen, the head of the Church of England.

While this is one tradition Markle has chosen to follow, there are plenty of ways she smashes royal stereotypes and is pushing traditions aside.

After the couple get married at midday St George's Chapel on Saturday May 19, it is understood that Markle will give a wedding speech at the reception— traditionally in Britain, only the groom, the father of the bride, and the best man make a speech.

The couple has also announced that they will be inviting over 2,000 members of the public into the grounds of Windsor Castle to watch part of their wedding.

The Dean of Windsor will conduct the service and the Archbishop of Canterbury will officiate as the couple make their vows.

At 1 p.m. Harry and Meghan will embark on a carriage procession from St George's Chapel through Windsor Town returning to Windsor Castle along the Long Walk, which will offer some members of the public a glimpse of the newly married couple.

There will be a reception for the couple and their guests from the congregation at St George's Hall following the service, while Prince Charles will host a private evening reception for the couple and their close friends and family later that evening.

Over the years, 17 women have lent their voices to bring Cinderella, Belle, Mulan, and the other Disney princesses to life.

The newest actress to join the roster is 17-year-old Hawaiian native Auli'i Cravalho, who voices Moana — though her character would insist she's the daughter of the chief, "not a princess."

Walt Disney personally hired 18-year-old Caselotti for the role of Snow White in his first feature-length cartoon. She made $20 a day reading lines and singing for a total of $970.

Caselotti said her salary was less than what one of the actors who voiced a dwarf was paid.

After "Snow White," Caselotti sang opera, worked briefly in real estate and the stock market, and wrote a book on singing. Disney never used Caselotti as an actress or vocalist again.

Since it scored a breakout hit with "The Shield" in the early 2000s, FX has consistently developed some of the best shows on television.

With "Atlanta" back and other critical hits returning soon — such as "The Americans" on March 28 for its final season, and "Legion" on April 3 — we decided to take a look at FX's best shows of all time.

Going back through the years, Business Insider ranked all of the network's 43 notable original shows based on how well they were received by critics (using data from the reviews aggregator Metacritic). We also excluded variety and reality programs.

If the shows had more than one season, we determined the final scores by taking an average of all seasons.

One thing that clearly stands out is that FX has only gotten better with age. The network has been a formidable player at the Emmys and other awards ceremonies in recent years, and that's reflected in our list. Six of the top 10 shows began within the last five years.

  • Disney has signed Iron Man and Jungle Book director Jon Favreau to direct a Star Wars series for its new streaming platform.
  • Netflix slid slightly when the news was announced.
  • Disney's competing product is set to launch in 2019.

Shares of Netflix sank 1.9% Thursday morning after Disneysaid it had signed Jon Favreau, director of Iron Man and The Jungle Book, to direct a live action Star Wars series for its competing streaming product.

Disney was up about 0.4% Thursday morning.

Details of Disney’s direct-to-consumer streaming product are still scant, but Wall Street has high hopes for its potential when it launches in 2019. RBC analyst Steven Cahall said in October Disney's service could easily reach 5 million subscribers after a year   — and as much as 20 million wouldn’t be out of the question.

For comparison, Netflix currently has 118 million subscribers worldwide, and added 24 million in 2017 alone, it said in January.

Disney is set to pull much of its content from Netflix in 2019 as it ramps up its new service.

"If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you," Favreau said in a press release. "I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure."

  • "Jungle Book" and "Iron Man" director Jon Favreau will executive produce and write a "Star Wars" live-action series for Disney's upcoming streaming service.
  • The streaming service begins in 2019 and will also include a Marvel live-action series and a "3 Men and a Baby" remake.

Disney has given a little tease of what its new streaming service will offer.

On Thursday, Lucasfilm announced that "Jungle Book" and "Iron Man" director Jon Favreau will executive produce and write a live-action "Star Wars" series for Disney's streaming platform.

There are no details or a title for the series yet, but the combination of firm news of a "Star Wars" series and someone like Favreau involved will certainly help bolster subscriptions for the streaming service.

Jon Favreau GettyAlong with his directing credits, Favreau is also known for his acting. He recently reprised his character Happy Hogan from the "Iron Man" movies in "Spider-Man: Homecoming." In addition to his appearances in Marvel films, he's known for memorable roles over the years in projects like "Chef" (which he also directed), "The Break Up," and "Swingers." Favreau will also have a role in "Solo: A Star Wars Story."

Disney's streaming service will launch in 2019. Along with the upcoming live-action "Star Wars" series, there's also a planned Marvel live-action series, as well as "High School Musical" and "Monsters Inc." series.

On the movie side, there's a planned "3 Men and a Baby" remake of the classic 1980s franchise and a live-action remake of Disney animated classic "Sword and the Stone."

"If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure," Favreau said in a press release announcing the new show.

A release date for the untitled "Star Wars" live-action series has not been announced.

The top movie genre women love is 'action' — and only 9% prefer 'romance' or 'romantic comedy'

  • Fandango surveyed over 3,000 women to find out what their movie habits were, and their top favorite genre was action.
  • The least popular genre among women was romance and romantic comedies, which is often assumed as a go-to for women.
  • The survey also asked women about their opinions on women's representation in film: a high percentage said the Time's Up and #MeToo movements would affect the industry

Before you assume that a woman's favorite movie is something from the 2000s starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey, ask her.

You will probably get a different answer than you were expecting.

In honor of International Women's Day, Fandango surveyed over 3,000 female moviegoers between the ages of 18 and 54, to figure out women's movie preferences and habits, and their views on women’s representation in film.

The survey showed that the most popular genre for women was action movies, at 22%. Coming in last was romance/romantic comedies, at 9%. Women are half of the world's population, and the majority of moviegoers. Perhaps this is why there has been a dramatic shift away from rom-coms and toward action movies in recent years.

The survey also showed that women prefer movies with more diversity, and are more likely to see a movie with dynamic female characters.

Why critics are calling 'Veep' creator's 'The Death of Stalin' the 'funniest' movie of the year

death of stalin

Film critics are widely praising "The Death of Stalin," a sharp political satire of the Soviet government that takes place in 1953, immediately following the death of dictator Josef Stalin.

Written and directed by Armando Iannucci, the creator of HBO's Emmy-winning series "Veep," the film is a dark and absurd dramatization of the power struggle among Stalin's cronies after the Soviet leader's death.

It's based on a French graphic novel of the same name, and it stars Steve Buscemi as Nikita Khrushchev (Stalin's successor), alongside Jason Isaacs, Michael Palin, and Jeffery Tambor.

In January, the Russian government banned the film from being released in Russia, and a Russian official reportedly described the film as a form of "extremism" intent on "causing rifts in society."

"The Death of Stalin" currently stands at a 96% "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and it opens in the US on Friday.

Consumer Gaming Spending

This story was delivered to BI Intelligence Apps and Platforms Briefing subscribers hours before appearing on Business Insider. To be the first to know, please click here.

Consumer spending worldwide on game consoles and related services in 2017 reached its highest point since 2011, according to a report from IHS Markit.

Last year was also the first to see a year-over-year (YoY) increase in consumer spending since 2014. Overall, consumers spent $41 billion on hardware, games content, and services in 2017, representing an 18% YoY increase from 2016. For context, spending reached $46 billion in 2011.

Nintendo’s strong performance in 2017 was a major force in driving growth in the gaming market. Nintendo captured a 22% share of the gaming market in 2017, up from 9% in 2016, largely driven by the breakout success of its latest hardware release, the Switch hybrid console, which saw 12.8 million sales during the year. Sony led the pack with a 53% share, down from 57% in 2016. Microsoft saw its share drop to 25% in 2017 from 31% in the prior year.

Here’s a breakdown of consumer gaming spending in 2017:

  • Spending on game consoles grew 33% YoY in 2017. Consumer spending in this category reached $14.1 billion in 2017. During the year, leading players like Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft launched new consoles — Nintendo Switch, Sony SP4 Pro, and Xbox One X, respectively — at price points higher than existing consoles.
  • Subscriptions to gaming platforms jumped 11% YoY to reach $3 billion in 2017.Subscriptions to gaming platforms, including Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus, are attractive to companies because they generate steady revenue. Rather than having to rely on the sporadic purchasing behavior of gamers, subscription revenue is generated on a regular basis. Nintendo’s upcoming subscription service, Nintendo Switch Online, should bolster subscription spending in 2018.
  • Game content spending captured the largest share of the gaming market. This category grew 12% YoY to reach $23.6 billion in 2017. Gaming content accounted for over 57% of the market. This category includes spending through all forms of distribution channels and refers to game sales and paid downloadable content.

  • Actor Russell Crowe is auctioning off more than 200 personal items through Sotheby's Australia following his recent divorce.
  • The items up for auction include artwork, film memorabilia, and a dinosaur skull that Crowe bought from Leonardo DiCaprio, which has an estimated worth between $35,000 and $40,000.
  • Crowe is also auctioning off a suede leather jock strap that he wore in the 2005 film "Cinderella Man."
  • Sotheby's says that all items will be "accompanied by a letter from Russell Crowe stating his ownership."

Actor Russell Crowe is auctioning off more than 200 of his personal items following his divorce from Danielle Spencer, including a dinosaur skull that he purchased from Leonardo DiCaprio, IndieWire reports.

Crowe's auction is taking place through Sotheby's Australia on April 7, and the event boasts a strikingly direct title — "Russell Crowe: The Art of Divorce."

The items up for auction from Crowe include artwork, film memorabilia, and the mounted skull of a Mosasaur that Crowe "acquired from" DiCaprio in 2008. Sotheby's lists the dinosaur skull at an estimated worth of between $35,000 and $40,000.

"The fossil relative of the monitor lizard family, which includes the Komodo Drago, the Mosasaur was a giant, serpentine marine reptile, which was prevalent during the Late Cretaceous Period, approximately 65 million years ago," Sotheby's writes of the fossil. "Mosasaurs were formidable hunters, with a double-hinged jaw and a flexible skull enabling them to eat their prey whole."

Crowe is also selling off a suede leather jock strap that he wore in the 2005 film "Cinderella Man." Sotheby's estimates its worth between $500 and $600.

Sotheby's writes that all items, including the dinosaur skull and jock strap, will be "accompanied by a letter from Russell Crowe stating his ownership."

Netflix has an insane amount of content, but it's not always easy to find what you want.

The categories Netflix gives you access to are broad, which is made more frustrating by the knowledge that Netflix splits movies and TV shows into incredibly specific micro-categories.

Luckily, it's pretty easy to access those ultra-specific categories. All are tagged with a number — for example, "Epics" is category No. 52858.

And once you have that code, to get a comprehensive list all you do is type it into your address bar after the word "genre," like this: http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/52858.

"The Sopranos" ended its six-season run when everyone's screens unexpectedly went black in 2007.

While we'll likely never find out what exactly happened in that series finale, the show's creator has written a prequel that could give us a closer look at Tony Soprano's childhood.

Creator David Chase wrote a screenplay for a prequel film that has been purchased by New Line Cinema, according to Deadline. There's not that many details on the movie yet, but we we do know that characters from the show will make an appearance. It's reportedly set in the 60s, which would mean that a young Tony Soprano would be in it, as well as his parents.

In the wake of Parkland, Trump is meeting with leaders from the video game industry to discuss gun violence — but don’t expect anything to come of it

On February 14, a gunman killed 17 students and staff members at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, using a legally purchased AR-15 assault-style rifle.

Less than a week later, amid a resurgence in the gun debate in the US, President Donald Trump suggested that violent video games play a role in mass shootings.

"The level of violence on video games is really shaping young people's thoughts," Trump said on February 22. "You see these movies, they're so violent, and yet a kid is able to see the movie. If sex isn't involved, but killing is involved. And maybe they have to put a rating system for that, and you get into a whole very complicated, very big deal."

On Thursday, Trump is scheduled to meet with prominent video game industry executives to discuss "violent video game exposure and the correlation to aggression and desensitization in children."

But there's good reason to expect that nothing will come of this meeting. Here's why:

DON'T MISS: One glaring piece of evidence refutes the claim that playing violent video games causes gun violence

Discussing violent video games is a distraction from the real issue: Gun violence.

When a 19-year-old gunman walked into Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14, he used an AR-15 rifle to kill 17 students and staff members.

The gunman was reportedly "fascinated by guns," and had a record of aberrant behavior. A profile from the Sun Sentinel in Broward County, Florida — where Marjory Stoneman Douglas is located — details a history rife with problems.

Notably, that history doesn't include video games (let alone violent video games).

It's entirely likely that, as a 19-year-old in 2018, the gunman played video games at some point. What's clear is that video games played no role in the mass shooting on February 14.

So, why are we talking about violent video games? Good question.

As Parkland shooting survivor Chris Grady told CNN in a recent interview, "That's just a really pathetic excuse on behalf of the president. I grew up playing video games — 'Call of Duty,' those first-person shooter games — and I would never, ever dream of taking the lives of any of my peers. So it's just pathetic."

Violent video games don't lead to real life violence.

The suggestion that violent video games and films are at least partly responsible for the rise and persistence of gun violence in the US dates back to the early '90s. But the Columbine High School shooting in 1999 brought it into the national conversation once again.

The two Columbine High School gunmen were active "Doom" players. Since the game primarily focuses on shooting a gun — at demons, in outer space — commentators suggested that the gunmen had trained for the real-life shooting by playing "Doom." The game featured a gun as the main point of interaction and perspective — the "first-person shooter" was a relatively new concept in video games back in 1999 — and thus arose suspicion.

If these teenage gunmen were playing this game, and capable of committing such a horrific act, what did that mean for all the other kids playing these games?

There's a simple answer to that, of course: The same video games are sold all over the world, yet gun violence is far more prevalent in the United States than the vast majority of countries where games are sold. In other words, video games are not the determining factor.

Video games have ratings already.

If you've ever purchased a video game, you've probably run into a video game rating. The Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) is responsible for giving out video game ratings in North America. If the game contains enough graphic violence, and enough sexually suggestive themes, it's likely to be rated for play by teens and/or adults.

Games are rated for various groups based on a variety of factors, from violence to depictions of sex (and many other things). If you're publishing a game in North America, and intending to sell it in a retail store, you're required to have an ESRB rating.

And if you're buying a game in a retail store that's rated "M for mature," you're almost certain to be carded — independent reports put retail compliance with video game ratings at north of 90%

Simply put: It's very difficult to buy a violent video game in a store as a minor.

The ESRB was actually created in response to previous calls from government officials to regulate video game ratings in the early '90s. Moreover, it was created by the video game industry lobby group that's scheduled to meet with President Trump and other lawmakers on Thursday.

If the call from Trump is to "put a rating system for that," there's an easy answer: One already exists.

Where the video game industry could find a sticking point is in the push toward digital game sales. Without parents monitoring, it's entirely possible to buy any game you want through digital storefronts — all you need is a credit card or a prepaid card (which can be purchased by anyone online or at retail). Will that come up in this meeting? We'll find out soon.

Super Smash Bros. (Switch)

  • One of Nintendo's most popular franchises, "Super Smash Bros.", is headed to the Nintendo Switch.
  • Nintendo says the game will arrive in 2018 — it's likely to be a major holiday game, but there's no scheduled release date.
  • A handful of characters are clearly shown in the tease, including Mario, Link, Bowser, and Pikachu.

Nintendo has got another huge game coming to its hit Nintendo Switch game console: "Super Smash Bros."

A video showing two characters from the "Splatoon" franchise teased the game in a live YouTube presentation on Thursday evening. The two characters are chasing each other when, suddenly, the world goes dark. A massive burning symbol appears: The symbol of the long-running "Super Smash Bros." franchise, which goes all the way back to the Nintendo 64 in the late 1990s.

Nintendo is revealing next to no information about the game thus far. It's not clear if this is an entirely new game, or an updated version of the game from Nintendo's last console (the Wii U).

If you've never played a "Smash Bros." game, think of it like a fighting game version of "Mario Kart." Nintendo's large cast of famous faces — from Mario to Donkey Kong to Pikachu to Princess Peach — take each other down in a simplified fighting game format. Rather than taking players on one at a time, "Smash Bros." distinguishes itself by throwing anywhere from two to eight players into a match at any given time. It's a chaotic, silly, surprisingly deep fighting game series with a serious following.

Here's a look at the last game in the series, "Super Smash Bros. Wii U":

It's clear from the brief teaser shown on Thursday night that the fighting game series will see returning favorites like Mario and Link (from the "Super Mario" and "Legend of Zelda" franchises). The silhouettes of many other Nintendo characters can be seen in the distance, and it's clear that Bowser and Pikachu will also make return appearances.

Can you pick out the rest?

The Obamas are in advanced talks to produce shows for Netflix

Barack and Michelle Obama

  • Former President Barack Obama is in talks with Netflix to provide shows for the streaming platform, according to a New York Times report published Thursday night.
  • The deal, which is not yet final, would bring exclusive content from Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama to Netflix's 118 million subscribers.
  • The Obamas, still fresh out of the White House after two presidential terms, are looking for ways to cement their global legacy.

Former President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama are negotiating a major production deal with Netflix, The New York Times reported on Thursday night.

The pending deal would bring exclusive content from the Obamas to the streaming site's 118 million subscribers. It was not immediately clear what types of content they would deliver to the site, but Eric Schultz, a former adviser to the president told the Times: "President and Mrs. Obama have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire."

Indeed, the Obamas have continued that in the year following their departure from the White House. Addition aly, Obama has sought to remain politically engaged, posting messages to Twitter, often in response to major national news.

Barack and Michelle Obama hold massive audiences on social media — 101 million for the former president, and more than 10 million for the former first lady. A deal with Netflix could potentially expand their reach even further.

The Times notes that the Obamas have no plans to use Netflix as a vehicle to dish out responses to their critics.

One possible show idea, the newspaper said, could involved Obama discussing topics that were germane to his policies as president — including health care, voting rights, and immigration, The Times said.

Those topics comprise portions of the legislative agenda he exercised during his time in the White House — many of which President Donald Trump has sought to roll back since he took office last year.

News of the pending deal follows several big tie-ups between Netflix and some Hollywood heavy-hitters — including a $100 million agreement with "Scandal" and "Grey's Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes, and a $300 million dollar, five-year deal with "Glee" and "American Horror Story" creator Ryan Murphy.

The financial terms of the potential Obama-Netflix agreement are not yet clear. Last year, the Obamas reportedly inked a record-setting $60 million deal to write two memoirs — one each for the former two-term president and first lady.

Colin Firth and Livia Firth

  • Italian police are investigating after Colin Firth and his wife Livia Giuggioli complained that a lifelong friend is stalking them.
  • The alleged stalker is 55-year-old journalist Marco Brancaccia, a childhood friend of Giuggioli.
  • The couple claim Giuggioli has been making threatening phonecalls and texts to Giuggioli and emailing photographs to Firth.

British actor Colin Firth and his wife, Italian producer Livia Giuggioli, claim a lifelong friend is stalking them and threatening to ruin their marriage.

According to The Times, the alleged stalker is 55-year-old journalist Marco Brancaccia, a childhood friend of Giuggioli who works for Italian news agency Ansa and is stationed in Brazil as bureau chief. He denies the claims.

The couple claim Brancaccia has made threatening telephone calls and texts to 48-year-old Giuggioli, who reportedly told authorities that she "lived in terror" of her former acquaintance. The pair also said Brancaccia has been "emailing photographs" to 57-year-old Firth.

This prompted the Oscar-winning actor to contact Italian police, who are reportedly now investigating and have seized Brancaccia's phone and computer.

A spokesman for Italy's Carabinieri police confirmed: "A complaint has been made by the couple to prosecutors and the police have been investigating."

The allegations date back to 2016

La Repubblica reported that Brancaccia began harassing the couple in September 2016 "because he could not face being cut out of the life of his friend." He also reportedly threatened to write "compromising articles" about Firth and Giuggioli.

Brancaccia’s lawyers reportedly denied the claims, adding: "Mr Brancaccia has absolutely nothing to do with the events described and has already filed a legal complaint to protect his good name and his honour, and to be able to supply his version of the truth of what happened.

"The reconstruction of the events by La Repubblica does not correspond to what really happened."

Colin Firth and Livia Firth

Italian prosecutors have reportedly requested that the case be taken to trial in Rome, with a spokesman for Firth adding: "There is an ongoing criminal prosecution and it would be inappropriate to comment in this circumstance."

Rosita Vallone, a lawyer representing Brancaccia, told The Times: "The first we heard about a request for trial being made was from the Italian press."

If the case goes to trial and Brancaccia is found guilty of stalking, he could face up to four years in jail.

Firth, who is known for his Oscar-winning performance in "The King's Speech" as well as roles in films like "Bridget Jones's Diary," married Giuggioli in 1997, gaining Italian citizenship last year.

The couple live near the town of Città della Pieve in Umbria and have two sons, 16-year-old Luca and 13-year-old Matteo.
