Kelly Ripa 76 Crosby

Manhattan's wealthy SoHo neighborhood is a favorite among celebrities, but it seems the nearby shopping and food was not enough to keep Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos from selling their New York pad.

The couple have put their 76 Crosby Street penthouse on the market with The Modlin Group for $24.5 million, according to Curbed NY. The real estate website also reported that Kelly and Mark had previously spent two years renovating the home after originally paying $9.5 million back in 2005.

The 6,800-square-foot loft has five bedrooms and tall 12 foot ceilings. It was outfitted with a fully vented six-burner Wolf stove in the kitchen, a Jacuzzi in the master suite, and a private roof deck with outdoor fireplace and hot tub.

This is 76 Crosby Street. It has a full-time doorman and easy access to SoHo's main shops on Broadway.

taylor swift

On Monday, we were the first to tell you that Taylor Swift and Harry Styles called it quits after a blowout fight in the British Virgin Islands.

While the young couple only dated for two months, everyone's first reaction to the news was that Swift would clearly make an album of it.

Some even joked the 23-year-old singer would write a song about her One Direction boy bander ex titled "I went in the wrong direction."

And now just four days after news of the split, Swift is already back in the recording studio with two months worth of fresh new content.

The singer confirmed it herself this afternoon to her nearly 23 million Twitter followers:

Taylor Swift Tweet

Looks like these two are never, ever getting back together and we'll have to wait for the new album to know exactly what went wrong on Virgin Gorda.

BBC Star Jimmy Savile Spent 'Every Waking Minute' Thinking About Abusing Boys And Girls

$

0

Jimmy SavileJimmy Savile spent "every waking minute" of his life thinking about abusing children, attacked patients in hospices and even used the final edition of the BBC's Top of the Pops to commit sex offences, police disclosed this morning.

• Police missed three chances to take case to trial, DPP admits
• Savile abused children as recently as 2009
• 450 complaints made to police
• Sexual offences began in 1955, report concludes
• Abuse was "vast, predatory and opportunistic"

Commander Peter Spindler, head of the inquiry, said Savile had "groomed a nation" and preyed on 450 victims, aged between eight and 47, over a 54-year period. Almost a fifth of his victims were boys.

A Metropolitan Police report giving the findings of Operation Yewtree, the investigation into Savile's offending launched after an ITV documentary exposed his paedophilia last year, says that 450 people have now made complaints to the police, and to date 214 offences have been identified across 28 police force areas. They include 126 indecent acts and 34 rapes.

Savile was "hiding in plain sight" during his offending, which began in 1955, says the 37-page Giving Victims a Voice report.

Spindler said the report "paints a stark picture emphasising the tragic consequences of when vulnerability and power collide".

He said Savile's "offending footprint" was "vast, predatory and opportunistic".

The report says there is no evidence that Savile was part of a paedophile ring, though he could have been part of an "informal network".

Detective Superintendent David Gray, the leading investigator, said: "He spent every minute of every waking day thinking about it whenever an opportunity came along he has taken it. He is programmed to think and act in that way. He only picked the most vulnerable, the ones least likely to speak out against him."

Savile preyed on 450 victims, aged between eight and 47, over a 54-year period. Almost a fifth of his victims were boys.

One of the most striking figures in the report relates to the number of children under 10 who were abused by Savile.

A total of 18 girls and 10 boys under the age of 10 were abused by Savile, with 23 girls and 15 boys aged 10 to 13.

Savile's earliest reported offence was in Manchester in 1955. He went on to sexually abuse children at the BBC from 1965 to 2006 - the date of the final Top of the Pops; at Leeds General Infirmary, where he volunteered as a porter, from 1965 to 1995; at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, where he was also a porter, from 1965 to 1988, and at Duncroft School between 1970 and 1978.

Other offences were committed at Broadmoor secure hospital, where he had his own room, at his holiday cottage at Glencoe in the Highlands and in his mobile home.

Savile was investigated by police five times while he was still alive - by the Met in the 1980s and in 2003, by Surrey Police from 2007 to 2009, by Sussex Police in 2008 and by Jersey Police in 2008, but none of them resulted in charges. The Crown Prosecution Service has today released a separate report into its reasons for deciding not to press charges.

Peter Watt, NSPCC director of child protection advice and awareness, who co-wrote the report, said the scale of Savile's abuse "simply beggared belief".

The two most prolific years of his offending were 1975 and 1976, with 15 offences committed in each year.

Savile, who died in October 2011 aged 84, almost certainly abused more than 450 people, as "others will also have experienced abuse but have chosen not to speak out", the report says.

It describes his "peak offending period" as between 1966 and 1976, when he was aged between 40 and 50.

Most of his victims were aged 13 to 16, with 82 per cent of them female and 18 per cent male. Almost three-quarters of the victims - 73 per cent - were aged under 18.

The report suggests that part of the reason Savile was never caught was because at the time he was most active, "police investigation of such crimes was more basic and lacked the specialist skills, knowledge and the collaborative approach of later years".

The report says that a "significant number" of other suspects have been identified, and Operation Yewtree continues to investigate alleged abusers who either knew Savile or operated alone.

The report says that 57 alleged offences by Savile happened on hospital or hospice premises, with 33 in TV or radio studios and 14 in schools.

Of the 34 rape offences, 26 victims were female and eight male.

The report also includes examples of the way Savile targeted his victims.

In 1960 a 10-year-old boy saw Savile outside a hotel and asked for his autograph. They went inside the reception where the boy was seriously sexually assaulted.

In 1972, during a recording of Top of the Pops, a 12-year-old boy and two female friends were groped during a break in filming, and in 2009 a 43-year-old woman was talking to Savile on a train journey between Leeds and London when Savile put his hand up her skirt.

The report concludes: "Perhaps the most important learning from this appalling case is in relation to the children and adults who spoke out about Jimmy Savile at the time.

"Too often they were not taken seriously. We must not allow this to happen again - those who come forward must be given a voice and swift action taken to verify accounts of abuse."

The report says that Savile committed offences at 14 hospitals, including a Sue Ryder hospice in Leeds and Great Ormond Street children's hospital in London.

As well as Broadmoor, he also committed an offence at Ashworth NHS High Security Unit.

He committed 22 offences at Stoke Mandeville and 16 at Leeds General Hospital. The other NHS hospitals involved, where one offence was reported at each, were Broadmoor; Ashworth; St James Teaching Hospital, Leeds; High Royds Psychiatric Hospital, Leeds; Dewsbury Hospital; Wycombe General, High Wycombe; Great Ormond Street; Exeter Hospital; Portsmouth Royal Hospital; St Catherine's Hospital, Birkenhead and Saxondale Mental Health Hospital, Notts.

The Sue Ryder Hospice where he committed one offence in 1977 was Wheatfield Hospice in Leeds.

The report adds that Savile committed offences at four schools, where he would be invited as a guest after featuring their pupils on Jim'll Fix It.

David Beckham Strips to His Underwear (Again) For H&M Shoot

Beckham

Film director Guy Ritchie has captured David Beckham's forthcoming advertising campaign for his H&M Bodywear collection.

Back in October, a group of movie star-hunting tourists in Beverly Hills got more than they bargained for when a brief-clad David Beckham popped up roadside.

We assumed Becks was shooting some new promotional material for his latest H&M underwear campaign, but the whole set-up (him wandering around in a load of bushes) did leave us scratching our heads.

BEHIND THE SCENES: On Beckham's Guy Ritchie film

Now it has been revealed that the heavily-inked footballer was in fact being filmed by Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels director Guy Ritchie, for an advert due out on February 6.

READ: How a busload of tourists briefly interrupted David Beckham’s H&M shoot

Rex photos reveal how the 37-year-old, who is currently pondering his footballing future, sees Beckham run through the streets and gardens of Beverly Hills, dressed only in his boxer shorts.

"David makes the perfect leading man," said Ritchie. "For me this felt more than a campaign - it was like directing a short film."

Behind the scenes pictures show David padding through a tennis court in flannel hotel slippers and losing his dressing gown to a car door.

Of course, DB still manages to look positively macho in just briefs and a vest while a large production crew can be seen facilitating the whole project.

The advert’s debut is thought to coincide with new colors added to Beckham’s Bodywear range just in time for Valentine's Day.

[Beckham has previously appeared only in his briefs for Armani's underwear line.]

  • After being named GQ’s sexiest woman “of the century,” Beyoncé tells the mag: “I worked so hard during my childhood to meet this goal: By the time I was 30 years old, I could do what I want. I’ve reached that. But I’ve sacrificed a lot of things, and I’ve worked harder than probably anyone I know, at least in the music industry. So I just have to remind myself that I deserve it ... Yes, I am powerful,” she says. “I’m more powerful than my mind can even digest and understand.”
  • Megan Foxquits Twitter after just a week. The actress, who gained more than 250,000 followers during her brief stint, made the announcement on her Facebook page: “Some of you may, or may not have noticed by now that my Twitter account has been shut down… I thought that 2013 might be the year that I finally blossomed into a social networking butterfly… but as it turns out I still hate it. I will just never be that girl. #I’m Sorry.”

While Moshe Benabou, an ex-Israeli soldier who worked for Bieber from March 2011 to October 2012, claims the pop star berated him and struck him a number of times in the chest during an argument over a member of Bieber’s entourage, Bieber's camp says he is just a "disgruntled employee" who had actually “let go” after he had been “caught in multiple lies.”

Protesting Chinese Celebrities Get Ominous Invitations To 'Drink Tea' With Authorities

Annie Yi China

A number of Chinese celebrities and prominent people who came out in support of an ongoing censorship protest have reportedly been invited to "drink tea" with local authorities, according to media reports and social media.

According to the AFP, "drink tea" is a well-known euphemism for a caution from the government.

Taiwanese singer Annie Yi has confirmed that she has been invited to "drink tea", while the former head of Google China, Kai-Fu Lee, and property tycoon Ren Zhiqiang also say they received the notice.

Yi has become something of a figurehead for posting a coded message in support of censorship protests. Attaching a picture of a notorious pro-censorship article, she wrote (via Tea Leaf Nation):

Good boy, watch that door. As long as we are here, this place belongs to us. So if anyone says to you that this place is his, bite him. Good boy, watch that door. We have knives and guns, no one dares to come, so you don’t even need to bite, just barking is enough. Do you hear that, you dogs who threaten others on the strength of your master’s power? If you threaten me, even if you’re not really a dog, you’re just like one. Good boy, I butchered another dog for you, here are their bones for you to chew on. I’m encouraging you because I’m proud of you.

The post was soon deleted, but Yi posted more messages of support.

Celebrity support for the protests — which began after the Guangzhou newspaper Southern Weekly was forced to run a censored editorial— has been a huge factor in turning the protests into a mainstream issue. Weibo's most popular user, actress Yao Chen, has even been quoting Soviet-era Russian dissident Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn in relation to the protests.

Yao, who has 31 million followers on Weibo, has not revealed whether she received the same "drink tea" invitations.

Justin Bieber's Fired Bodyguard Says The Star Yelled At Him And Punched His Chest

Justin Bieber concert

Justin Bieber's former bodyguard filed a lawsuit claiming the teen star punched him repeatedly backstage last October, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Moshe Benabou, who worked for Bieber's touring company from March of 2011 to October of 2012, alleges Bieber yelled "You are fired!" and punched his chest and upper body.

Benabou filed a complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming he is entitled to overtime wages from BT Touring and accusing the 18-year-old pop star of assault and battery.

"The tirade was apparently triggered by what Justin Bieber perceived as an attempt from Moshe Benabou to keep one member of Mr. Bieber's entourage physically away from Justin Bieber," the complaint says.

Benabou says he didn't retaliate at the time "out of concerns for Mr. Bieber's well being."

The former bodyguard also claims he worked 14 to 18 hours a day, seven days a week, with no overtime pay, in violation of California labor laws.

Sources in "Bieber's camp" told TMZ Benabou is a disgruntled employee who was fired for telling multiple lies – the biggest one being that he had previously worked for Justin Timberlake.

Katie Holmes Makes Appearance At A New York Murder Trial

Katie Holmes

Katie Holmes made an unexpected appearance at a murder trial in a New York courtroom on Wednesday, but it had nothing to do with her divorce from Tom Cruise.

The actress, fresh off her run on Broadway in “Dead Accounts,” was spotted in the Queens Supreme Court listening to the opening argument of prosecutor Leigh Bishop against a man facing 25 years to life for allegedly shaking his two-year-old daughter to death in 2007.

Holmes' publicist told the New York Times that the actress is friends with the prosecutor and wanted to watch her work.

"What happened to baby Annie Li?" Bishop reportedly asked in the Queens courtroom. "Mr. Li violently, repeatedly and with depraved indifference knocked Annie into a table causing abusive head trauma and fractured her skull."

After Bishop's opening remarks, Holmes, who sat quietly in the back, left the courtroom.

Meanwhile, the father accused of murdering his daughter maintains his innocence and refuses to plead guilty.

Mr. Li says he accidentally knocked his young daughter against a table in his efforts to revive her following a heart attack from a genetic heart condition, which caused her to fall unconscious and eventually die.

ben affleckNo Oscar love for Ben Affleck? No problem.

The "Argo" director took home the biggest awards last night at the Critics Choice Awards for Best Picture and Best Director.

Earlier in the day, although "Argo" received seven Oscar nominations– including Best Picture – Affleck failed to get a nod for best director.

And a lot of people weren't happy about the decision.

Fans and actors alike – including Oscar-nominated Bradley Cooper for "Silver Linings Playbook"– cried that Affleck was robbed.

It was evident how shocked Affleck looked when his name was announced.

Ben Affleck Argo shock

Really shocked.

Affleck then got the last word in about his Oscar snub when he joked about it on stage.

"I would like to thank the Academy," said Affleck. "I'm kidding, I'm kidding. This is the one that counts."

Though most were upset with Affleck's snub at the Oscars, he wasn't the only big name deprived of a best director nod.

"Zero Dark Thirty" director Kathryn Bigelow also saw her film nominated for Best Picture while failing to receive a nod along with "Les Misérables" director Tom Hooper.

Jimmy Savile's Sexual Misconduct Was Blindingly Obvious

$

Jimmy Savile

Jimmy Savile, a formerly beloved British TV star who died in 2011, has become the center of one of the BBC's greatest scandals after a series of posthumous allegations about decades of sexual abuse of children and other vulnerable people.

A new police report seems to confirm everyone's worst fears — almost 500 confirmed victims, with reports that Savile spent "every waking minute" thinking about abusing boys and girls.

It's all horrifying, but one aspect worst of all: it was blindingly obvious.

For 60 years Savile hid in plain sight, being perhaps the most high profile television star in the UK. More to the point, he was a BBC television star, meaning for decades he was the most visible person on one of the UK's only non-cable TV channels. He surrounded himself with children and young people, hosting the BBC's historically important music show Top of the Pops and even hosting his own show that would grant children's deepest wishes, Jim'll Fix It.

Despite his high profile, rumors about his sexual life followed him for years, and the recent police report confirms that he was investigated by police five times during his lifetime, with no investigation ever leading anywhere.

Even Britain's notorious tabloids stayed away from the issue. In 2008 Savile told British police that he had a "policy" for dealing with accusations and that he had sued at least five British newspapers.

This is one reason that we've described the Savile case as like the Jerry Sandusky case but worse. Savile wasn't just a hero for one college or one region — he was a hero for an entire nation. And the rumors about his sexual conduct weren't limited to those close to him — the rumors were pretty much public knowledge across the country.

For those unfamiliar with Savile (his schtick certainly didn't translate well overseas), it's really worth watching a documentary he made in 2000 with British journalist Louis Theroux. Theroux spent several days with Savile, attempting to get past his goofy public persona and see what actually made him tick. Savile did not come out of it looking good — frankly he seemed like an ego-maniacal creep — but even Theroux admitted he was shocked when the new accusations came out.

One except, transcribed here by the New Statesman, is incredible in hindsight:

Voiceover: We were nearing the end of our time together, and as we headed back to Leeds, it was clear that Jimmy was pleased about the press coverage of his broken ankle.

But it struck me that his relationship with the press hasn't always been a happy one.

Louis: So, why do you say in interviews that you hate children when I've seen you with kids and you clearly enjoy their company and you have a good rapport with them?

Jimmy: Right, obviously I don't hate 'em. That's number one.

Louis: Yeah. So why would you say that then?

Jimmy: Because we live in a very funny world. And it's easier for me, as a single man, to say "I don't like children" because that puts a lot of salacious tabloid people off the hunt.

Louis: Are you basically saying that so tabloids don't, you know, pursue this whole 'Is he/isn't he a paedophile?' line, basically?

Jimmy: Yes, yes, yes. Oh, aye. How do they know whether I am or not? How does anybody know whether I am? Nobody knows whether I am or not. I know I'm not, so I can tell you from experience that the easy way of doing it when they're saying "Oh, you have all them children on Jim'll Fix It", say "Yeah, I hate 'em."

Louis: Yeah. To me that sounds more, sort of, suspicious in a way though, because it seems so implausible.

Jimmy: Well, that's my policy, that's the way it goes. That's what I do. And it's worked a dream.

Pause

Louis: Has it worked?

Jimmy: A dream.

Pause

Louis: Why have you said in interviews that you don't have emotions?

Jimmy: Because it's easier. It's easier. You say you've emotions then you've got to explain 'em for two hours.

Jimmy: The truth is I'm very good at masking them.

The documentary, titled "When Louis Met Jimmy", is available on iTunes UK (if you are using iTunes US you will have to switch regions to download). Clips from it can be found on a variety of video-sharing sites.

Read The Poignant Rejection Letter Daniel Day-Lewis Wrote To Steven Spielberg

Daniel Day Lewis Abe Lincoln

Many who've seen Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" likely can't imagine the title role being played by anyone other than Daniel Day-Lewis, who is so good, so fully human, that he seems credible even though we've no recordings of the actual Lincoln to go by.

The movie would be completely different without Day-Lewis, so it's now strange to find out that he turned down the role several times. At last night's New York Film Critics Circle Awards, Spielberg read the audience a letter sent by Day-Lewis, in which the picky and somewhat reclusive actor gently turned down the role. It's an interesting little glimpse into an alternate reality that almost was.

Dear Steven, It was a real pleasure just to sit and talk with you. I listened very carefully to what you had to say about this compelling history, and I’ve since read the script and found it in all the detail in which it describe these monumental events and in the compassionate portraits of all the principal characters, both powerful and moving. I can’t account for how at any given moment I feel the need to explore life as opposed to another, but I do know that I can only do this work if I feel almost as if there is no choice; that a subject coincides inexplicably with a very personal need and a very specific moment in time. In this case, as fascinated as I was by Abe, it was the fascination of a grateful spectator who longed to see a story told, rather than that of a participant. That’s how I feel now in spite of myself, and though I can’t be sure that this won’t change, I couldn’t dream of encouraging you to keep it open on a mere possibility. I do hope this makes sense Steven, I’m glad you’re making the film, I wish you the strength for it, and I send both my very best wishes and my sincere gratitude to you for having considered to me.

That's the transcript of what Spielberg read last night, so let's hope that a few of the grammatical oddities in there are the fault of transcribing and were not in Day-Lewis' actual letter, which we like to imagine was written on old parchment that smelled of the Irish Sea.

Hollywood lore is littered with stories of since-famous projects that almost never happened, or ones that almost did but fell apart in the last minute. (This 1991 New York Times profile of Meryl Streep which was recently brought to our attention reminded us that Streep was once thisclose to playing Evita until Madonna snatched it away.)

We're glad that the Daniel Day-Lewis "Lincoln" is in the former category. And we respect him for having the stones to say no to Steven Spielberg and such an auspicious project. The man has convictions! Now if all other directors could please release similar letters from actors, the world would be a more transparent and interesting place. You first, David O. Russell. How many people turned you down before Bradley Cooper got "Silver Linings"?

It Turns Out That 'The Walking Dead' Super Bowl Ad Is Actually For Time Warner Cable

amc walking dead super bowl ad

It turns out that the Super Bowl spot for "The Walking Dead" is actually for Time Warner Cable and not AMC.

Earlier this week, "The Walking Dead" star Norman Reedus began tweeting out zombie-filled photos with the announcement that he was shooting a Super Bowl commercial— the most expensive and coveted ad space of the year.

While fans were excited at the prospect of a "Walking Dead "ad, some tweeting "this is the only reason I will be watching superball! :)", Time Warner Cable reached out to BI to let us know that the spot is actually a part of its Enjoy Better campaign. Considering that Super Bowl ads cost as much as $4 million for 30-seconds this year, this makes sense for the indie success.

But that also means that there probably won't be any teasers for the show's Feb. 10 midseason premiere.

Some Walking Dead zombies were actually featured in TWC's last Super Bowl spot, but it looks like the show will have a more prominent role in the ad considering that Reedus will be in it too.

Watch last year's spot below:

Everything You Need To Know About The French Film That Could Steal Best Picture At The Oscars

Amour

There's always one Oscar nomination every year for Best Picture that makes people go, "What?"

Last year, it was the silent black-and-white French film "The Artist" which ended up taking home Best Picture

This year, one of those films is "Amour" – the other may be "Beasts of the Southern Wild" – and, it's also French.

Here's what you should know about the film that may sneak in to win the most coveted award at the Academy Awards.

Mini-plot spoilers follow.

The basics:

  • As we said, it's French. The title translates to "Love."
  • It's the brainchild of Austrian filmmaker Michael Haneke who is who is best known for 2009's "The White Ribbon" and 2005's "Caché."
  • The film follows Georges who grapples with the decision of how to continue to care for his 80-year-old wife Anne as her health continues to depreciate after a surgery leaves her paralyzed.
  • The couple's daughter Eva pressures Georges to admit Anne into a nursing home, something he promised his wife he would never do.

What it reminds us of:

Take the sad storyline behind "The Notebook" and expand that into the film's entirety.

The stars:

Jean-Louis Trintignant plays Georges. Earlier this year, he won the European Film Award for Best Actor for the film.

Do you know anything else he was in?
Trintignant is primarily a French actor so probably not unless you've seen his two award-winning films from the '60s, "The Man Who Lies" and "Z."

Emmanuelle Riva plays Anne who was also nominated for Best Actress. At 85, she's the oldest person to ever be nominated in the category

The last time Riva was nominated for any sort of award was in the '60s for Best Actress in "Therese" and another film "Hiroshima, mon amour."

Why you should care:

It won best film at both the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards and the European Film Awards.

Overall, the film has been nominated for 37 awards, including its five Oscar nods (Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Foreign Language Film, and Best Screenplay). Of those awards, it has won 15 to date.

Riva has won three awards for Best Actress in her role while Trintignant has clinched one win as Georges.

Finally, a new teaser for "Game of Thrones"!

Up until now, we haven't seen much teased for the upcoming season three of HBO's hit show since November, and it continues to keep us in suspense.

The teaser doesn't give us any glimpses of the new season but does showcase the series' mysterious three-eyed raven.

If you recall, the raven first appeared in young Bran Stark's dreams after he was injured. Last time we saw the bird, it led Bran to a the Stark family crypt right before the death of a major character.

"Game of Thrones" returns to HBO March 31.
