It sounds like the beloved 'Final Fantasy' series is returning to Nintendo

The latest entry in the long-running "Final Fantasy" series is already a major hit on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. And it sounds like the game — or some derivation of it — is heading to Nintendo's Switch as well.

final fantasy xv

During a livestreamed discussion at Germany's annual Gamescom video game expo earlier this month, "Final Fantasy XV" producer Hajime Tabata teased an upcoming "Final Fantasy XV" game on Nintendo's latest console.

"Everyone on the 'FFXV' team loves this specific console that sounds a lot like 'twitch,' so you may want to think about something like that in the future,” he said. He's of course referring to the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo's current home game console. Though Nintendo home game consoles used to be the place to play "Final Fantasy" games, that's changed over the years. It sounds like, with "Final Fantasy XV," things may be turning around.

Tabata was being intentionally vague — it's unlikely that a direct port of "Final Fantasy XV" makes sense for the Switch. Given the console's comparatively low horsepower weighed against the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, directly releasing the game on the Switch would be a challenge.

Especially considering how graphically impressive the game is:

Final Fantasy XV

What's more likely is that the game's developer and publisher, Japanese game company Square Enix, is making a spin-off or pared down version of "Final Fantasy XV" for the Switch. This becomes more clear when you consider the other statements Tabata made about the unannounced project.

"We can’t give you any complete, solid details right at the moment, but we very much do want to move out and do as much as we can with the game and the franchise," Tabata said.

Of note, he refers to "Final Fantasy XV" as a game and a franchise — something Square Enix has done in the past with "Final Fantasy VII" ("Dirge of Cerberus"), "Final Fantasy X" ("Final Fantasy X-2"), and several others. To be completely clear: It would be completely unsurprising if Square Enix made a Nintendo Switch game that's part of the "Final Fantasy XV" universe (but doesn't contain the original "Final Fantasy XV").

Either way, we'll have to wait and see — Tabata didn't offer anything specific beyond those few teases (where he wouldn't even mention Switch by name). For now you can rest assured that something regarding "Final Fantasy XV" is in production for the Nintendo Switch.

A tech startup has raised $21.4 million, and it's another sign that the TV business is racing toward digital-like ad targeting

unnamedInvestors have cooled on ad tech. But they seem to be shifting their attention to companies promising to make TV advertising function more like digital advertising.

The TV ad software startup VideoAmp has raised $21.4 million in new series B round. That brings the company's total funding to $36.6 million.

The new funding round was led by Mediaocean, a company that provides software to many ad agencies for billing and other functions. Other investors included the German media firm RTL Group as well as StartUp Capital Ventures.

In the past few years, advertisers have shown increasing interest in using data and technology to target specific audiences on TV, much like they target people who've recently visited e-commerce sites or searched for products with highly specific ads.

VideoAmp chief strategy officer Jay Prasad told Business Insider that its software can be used not only to help marketers use their own data to target narrow audiences on TV, but also sync that with their digital ad efforts. The idea is that advertisers will be able to track people from device to device (from smart TVs to laptops to phones) and they can be more strategic in their messaging approach.

"This should give brands one common digital data set that they can use to optimize TV and web campaigns,"Prasad said. "They can then make more intelligent ad buys when they go back into the market."

This targeted TV ad sector appears to be heating up. Earlier this year, the TV data and analytics firm Samba TV raised $30 million in new funding. Just a few days ago, RTL fully acquired the video ad tech company SpotX. A slew of other TV-centered tech companies made Business Insider's list of the 19 most interesting ad-tech upstarts of 2017.

Three more Legendary Pokémon are coming to 'Pokémon Go'

Three more Legendary Pokémon are coming to "Pokémon Go": Raikou, Entei, and Suicune.

The three Legendary dogs will each be available in different parts of the world for one month at a time. To kick things off, Raikou will be available in the Americas, Entei in Europe and Africa, and Suicune in the Asia-Pacific region starting August 31. They will rotate availability at the end of September and again at the end of October.

For the past several weeks, four Legendary birds have been available through collaborative raid battles in Pokémon Go. These birds (Articuno, Moltres, Zapdos, and Lugia) will be phased out of the game to make way for the new Legendary dogs.

If you're unfamiliar with the original game series, Legendary Pokémon are ultra-powerful, incredibly rare creatures that are especially difficult to defeat in battle.

Additionally, Pokémon's most famous Legendary, Mewtwo, will be made available through special "EX" Raid Battles, which will require an in-game invitation to attend. "Pokémon Go" creator Niantic Labs said on Thursday that the first batch of EX battle invites will be sent out by September 6.

"Pokémon Go" is the fastest mobile game to reach $1 billion in revenue and has roughly 65 million monthly users globally.

A scene cut from the 'Game of Thrones' finale explained how Sansa Stark figured everything out

The Dragon and the Wolf Stark Littlefinger

Your biggest question after watching the season seven finale of "Game of Thrones" has an answer.

After a frustrating plot in Winterfell leading up to the finale, the Stark children gave the storyline a satisfying end. Sansa, Arya, and Bran play Littlefinger the way he's played everyone throughout his entire life.

In a grand scheme, it appears Littlefinger has convinced Sansa that Arya is trying to kill her so she can be Lady of Winterfell.

But in the finale, Sansa has Arya come to answer for her "crimes" — only to reveal that the meeting is all about Littlefinger's crimes, including murdering Lysa and Jon Arryn and betraying Ned and Catelyn Stark.

Littlefinger says no one was there to know that he betrayed Ned. But the Three-Eyed Raven — formerly known as Brandon Stark — describes the scene using Littlefinger's exact words: "I told you not to trust me."

Arya then slits Littlefinger's throat with his own dagger.

While there is a scene after Littlefinger's death when Arya and Sansa recognize their differences but indicate they still admire each other, we never got a solid grasp of how their plan against Littlefinger unfolded. When did it start? Had the Starks had this planned the whole time, or did it take a while for them to realize Littlefinger was messing with them?

Isaac Hempstead Wright, who plays Bran, told Variety about a cut scene that confirms what went down:

"We actually did a scene that clearly got cut, a short scene with Sansa where she knocks on Bran's door and says, 'I need your help,' or something along those lines. So basically, as far as I know, the story was that it suddenly occurred to Sansa that she had a huge CCTV department at her discretion and it might be a good idea to check with him first before she guts her own sister. So she goes to Bran, and Bran tells her everything she needs to know, and she's like, 'Oh, s---.'"

So it looks like Littlefinger was successfully playing the Stark sisters. But Sansa realizes his motivations during the scene when he tries to convince her that Arya wants to be Lady of Winterfell, and seeks Bran's help to confirm it.

bb-9e star wars sphero

When "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" hits theaters this December, the forces of the dark side will have a new ally.

Meet BB-9E — a droid that looks to be the evil opposite of BB-8, the breakout hit character of 2015's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." The existence of BB-9E was leaked earlier this year, but today marks the official unveiling.

We're getting our first official look BB-9E from Sphero, which makes the smash-hit app-controlled BB-8 toy.  This holiday season, Sphero will be selling a similar BB-9E droid for $149 a pop.

BB-9E looks like BB-8, too, with the most major difference being the shape of the head. The new droid also sports light-up eyes, visible in the picture. Like its forebear, you'll be able to pilot BB-9E with a smartphone, or make it do one of a number of pre-set routines. It's pretty neat.

As for BB-9E's larger role in the "Star Wars" saga, well, Sphero is understandably staying mum.

In the meanwhile, Sphero will also be selling a new, app-controlled R2-D2 droid for $179.

In a hands-on demo, I got to watch R2-D2 roll around: Much like the droid from the movies, this Artoo unit has a stabilizing leg that extends from its body to help it zip around faster. And you can make it do little routines, like shaking and falling over like a Jawa just zapped it.

The unveiling of BB-9E and R2-D2 is part of "Force Friday II," the grand kickoff to the "Last Jedi" marketing blitz, so stay tuned for more "Star Wars" news.

We're still a few months out from the December 15th premiere of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." But the hype begins now.

On Friday, September 1st, Disney will hold "Force Friday II," the official kickoff for the wave of "The Last Jedi" merchandise and marketing that will carry us through the holiday season. The original "Force Friday," held for 2015's "The Force Awakens," was just one day; this second go-around will last from September 1st to the 3rd.

First off, Disney is doing some very nifty things with augmented reality — the technology for combining digital imagery with the real world — to bring the "Star Wars" universe to life all over the world.

Second, prepare for a deluge of new "Star Wars" action figures, droids, drones, and other goodies. That includes a $199 augmented reality headset, developed by Disney and Lenovo, that serves as an amazing example of what Apple thinks could be the next big thing in computing

But enough talk. You want to hear more about "Star Wars." Here we go.

On Friday, September 1st, Disney is kicking off "Force Friday II," officially marking the beginning of the hype cycle for "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." To celebrate, you'll be able to use the "Star Wars" app to see Imperial Star Destroyers hovering over world-famous landmarks. Check it out.

I'm just gonna start with my favorite thing. This is "Jedi Challenges," a $199 headset that Disney developed in conjunction with Lenovo. It projects the world of "Star Wars" all around you, using what Silicon Valley types call "augmented reality."

In the demo I tried, it let you challenge Kylo Ren to a lightsaber duel, using the controller to block his blade and strike back. The battle is projected over the real world, giving the illusion that Kylo is in the room with you. It's neat, and it works well, apart from a few glitches where the system lost track of where I was holding my saber.

Kanye West is making an iPhone game about his mother's ascent to heaven — but insiders say it's been in limbo for over a year

Only One

Music and fashion superstar Kanye West first announced he was making a video game based on his mother back in February 2015.

Kanye's team says he's still making a video game, but according to sources familiar with the project we spoke with, its future is uncertain following a production halt that lasted over a year.

That game, called "Only One," is an iPhone game from Los Angeles-based film and animation studio Encyclopedia Pictura.

The first trailer for "Only One" was unveiled by Kanye West a year later during the Yeezy Season 3 fashion show and album listening party in New York City on February 11, 2016. At the time, West described the game as such: "The idea of the game is my mom traveling through the gates of Heaven."

One and a half years later, and the game appears to be in limbo. Sources we spoke with say "Only One" hasn't been in active production since the summer of 2016. One source familiar with the project said that people working on the game were told at one point that funding for the project had fallen through.

The studio behind the game refutes these claims. "We’ve continually worked on the project, through various stages of development, production, prototyping, re-development, more prototyping, then more production, before and after E3 2016," Encyclopedia Pictura co-director Isaiah Saxon told Business Insider in an email exchange.

"Development of the game continues," a representative for Kanye West told Business Insider. "Kanye is an artist whose creative process takes time, and he is lucky to be doing work in a medium that naturally lends itself  to an elongated, constantly evolving creative processes. He is steadily continuing work on the game, and will deliver more updated visuals and progress as they grow ready."

In other words, this is Kanye we're talking about, and he'll release the game when it's ready.

But while Kanye's team and the studio behind the game maintain that the game is still in the works, the project's team has shrunk from around 14 down to a bare bones team. Except for the studio heads, all of the contractors originally involved with the project have moved onto other jobs, Business Insider confirmed, with some taking full-time positions at Google and Magic Leap.

Here's what we've heard.

What kind of game is "Only One"?

"Only One" is a linear experience that's focused more on collection than, say, solving puzzles. You play as Donda West as she ascends to the highest levels of heaven, avoiding obstacles along the way. There's no concept of "death" in "Only One," we're told.

The game's trailer seemingly confirms this concept: West's mother Donda West is depicted as an angel ascending to Heaven. Donda West died in 2007, and both the song "Only One" and the game of the same name are dedicated to her.

We're told that the game had three levels last time it was being worked on. It was described as an "endless runner," like "Super Mario Run" or "Canabalt." It's not clear how close to completion the game was; a prototype was being demoed privately during the annual game industry trade show, E3, in June 2016, sources said. The game was also shown at E3 2016 during a live YouTube special from the show.

"Only One" was repeatedly described as an iPhone game, though it's possible the game was intended for Android phones as well. Either way, "Only One" is a smartphone game rather than something you play on PlayStation 4 or PC.

The game is said to be especially graphically striking. "The visuals were really awesome," one source close to the project told Business Insider.

Kanye's long (and frustrating) journey from idea to iPhone game

Production on "Only One" seemingly began in late 2014; West first spoke about production of the game during a February 2015 radio interview with 105.1 FM's "The Breakfast Club." He said it was "about six months" into development at the time.

Before giving the public its first glimpse of the game at his Yeezy Season 3 fashion show in February 2016, West relayed a short tale about the process of making "Only One" up to that point.

"No, you don’t understand. I go out and meet with everybody in San Fran, and they’ll diss the f--- out of me," West said on stage. "And I’ll be like, ‘I wanna make a game,’ and they’ll be like, ‘F--- YOU.’ That was hard to do, bro!"

West was seemingly referring to his experience courting game developers in San Francisco, the game development capital of the US. Eventually, he took his interests outside of San Francisco; the studio that ended up working on "Only One" is named Encyclopedia Pictura, a self-described "film and animation studio" based in Los Angeles. The studio's past work includes music videos for Bjork and Grizzly Bear. "Only One" is the studio's first attempt at video game development.

Only One

From late 2014 to June 2016 appears to be the main period when "Only One" was in active production, with a team of about 14 people. Encyclopedia Pictura's official page on the Kanye West game project still reflects this team, though we've confirmed that none of those staff members are currently working on the project. Many have accepted full-time jobs elsewhere.

Encyclopedia Pictura co-director Isaiah Saxon attributes this to the nature of independent game development.

"The team has continued to evolve as we’ve gone along," Saxon told us via email. "Sometimes we scale up for a production sprint, then scale down for prototyping and concept work. The people listed on the site are the alumni of this process, not the current team which is currently bare bones as we recruit for the next round of team production. This is a normal process for indy [sic] game development, because when you need to work on just ideas and gameplay concepts you don’t need a full staff."

Soon after E3 in June 2016, sources tell us "Only One" was put on hold — nearly two years into production.

kanye west

While the studio behind the game says production has continued since the game was originally announced, this directly contradicts what we were told by several sources close to the project, who characterized the game as "on hiatus." In the summer of 2016, people working on the game were told that funding for the project fell through, according to one source familiar with the project.

It's also worth noting that Kanye West himself had a rough 2016, making headlines outside of his album release for the early cancellation of his tour, a family robbery, and a forthright admission to being $53 million in debt.

Developing games is very different from creating an album across several years. Video game production — unlike film or music production — can be difficult to start and stop with new employees, though not impossible. Unlike films, which can be developed across more than a decade (like "Boyhood"), games are dependent on programming that's unique to each; jumping in to that code can be a mess, and there can be other technical issues tied to the evolving hardware and software that would need to be taken into account.

But the game is coming, the studios says, though a target release date has not been publicized.

"We’re currently working on the project — building prototypes and trying out ideas — while simultaneously recruiting the next team of collaborators for a final production sprint," Saxon wrote in a statement to Business Insider. "We’ve made a ton of progress since last year’s E3 announcement and feel that we’ve found something truly special with our game mechanics."

Fans of West's music know that he has a reputation for long-term, on-again/off-again projects; his critically-acclaimed album, "The Life of Pablo," technically began production in 2010, though it didn't come out until 2016. It's entirely possible that "Only One" falls into that category.

In July, when dozens of internet companies including Netflix and Google protested the FCC's proposal to change Obama-era net-neutrality rules, Apple was silent.

Now, the company has weighed in on FCC Chairman Ajit Pai's proposal to remove the rules. After President Donald Trump appointed Pai chairman, he's been moving to throw out existing net-neutrality rules.

In a comment submitted to the FCC and signed by Cynthia Hogan, Apple's VP of Public Policy for the Americas, Apple urged the FCC not to roll back a ban against "fast lanes," a concept that describes a regulatory environment in which broadband providers can charge to deliver internet content more quickly.

But on other net-neutrality issues, such as whether to reverse the Title II classification that gives the FCC authority over service providers, Apple is less specific. "We work hard to build great products, and what consumers do with those tools is up to them — not Apple, and not broadband providers," Apple said in its comment.

“Apple remains open to alternative sources of legal authority, but only if they provide for strong, enforceable, and legally sustainable protections, like those in place today,” it continued.

An Apple representative declined to comment further on the filing.

Subscription-based services are taking over television as we know it, and if you want to learn more about the growth and success of subscription-based networks, don't miss Business Insider's flagship conference, IGNITION.

Richard Plepler, CEO of premium TV network HBO, will take stage at Business Insider's flagship event, IGNITION: Future of Media, November 29-30, in New York City.

With the success of Netflix, many other networks have jumped on board with, and recently began offering, standalone services. Hulu, Showtime, and Amazon Prime are just a few examples. HBO launched its standalone subscription-based service, HBO Now, in 2015.

In 2014, Plepler said HBO's "model is building addicts"— and they have certainly done that. Most recently, HBO has seen huge success with "Big Little Lies," which premiered in February. The finale, which aired on April 2, attracted 1.9 million viewers.

Of course with the success of HBO programs comes the success of its subscription service. As of February, HBO Now surpassed 2 million paid subscribers.

Whether it's a "Game of Thrones" spinoff or a second season of "Big Little Lies," we’re interested to see what’s next for Plepler and HBO.

That’s why we’re so excited to learn from Plepler this November.

We’re rolling out the rest of the lineup over the coming months, assembling a unique array of New York stars with the biggest names of Silicon Valley and beyond.

'Street Fighter II' is getting a gorgeous Super Nintendo re-release for its 30th birthday

It's hard to believe, but it's been nearly 30 years since "Street Fighter" first debuted. Though few people now remember the original game, the sequel — "Street Fighter II: The World Warrior" — is a classic.

And thus, in celebration of the release of the original game, Capcom is re-releasing "Street Fighter II" (the sequel) on a Super Nintendo cartridge — which you'll need a Super Nintendo to play.

Street Fighter II (limited edition)

The special edition re-release of "Street Fighter II" is limited to a run of 5,500, and red is just one of two colors it's being offered in.

If you want to get your hands on this puppy, you'll need to first prepare your wallet: The re-release of the Super Nintendo version of "Street Fighter II" costs a whopping $100.

It comes with more than just the cartridge, of course. There's a whole package involved. For instance, the game comes with a "premium" instruction manual (seen below).

It also comes with a special "tri-fold" box, seen here. It may look like an original Super Nintendo game box, but don't get it twisted — this is something entirely different.

This $199 'Star Wars' toy is the best example yet of the technology that could one day replace the smartphone (DIS, AAPL, MSFT)

star wars jedi challenges

If you ask Apple, the next big thing in computing is augmented reality, or AR — the technology for overlaying digital imagery on the real world. Indeed, when the iPhone 8 launches on September 12th, expect AR to be a big focus.

The eventual goal, as promised by Facebook, Microsoft, Google, and startups like Magic Leap, is a pair of smart glasses that combine the digital and physical world. From there, why would you need a smartphone? After all, your text messages, Instagram feed, and Netflix would just pop up in your field of vision.

Well, we're not there yet. The first version of Google Glass was a famous fiasco; Microsoft's HoloLens is on the market, but it costs a cool $1,500 and is clearly meant for businesses and the earliest of the early adopters.

But if you need a sign that this is where things are headed, look to a galaxy far, far away.

On Thursday, Disney and Lenovo unveiled "Star Wars: Jedi Challenges," a $199 augmented reality headset that lets you lightsaber battle with Darth Vader and lead Resistance troops into combat. And while it's far from perfect, it's a sure sign that the augmented reality revolution is way closer to reality than people might think.

Here's a trailer showing off what "Jedi Challenges" is all about:

I got some hands-on time with "Jedi Challenges" at a Disney event earlier in August. And to make a long story short, I think a lot of people are going to want this headset. Pre-orders for "Jedi Challenges" begin on Friday at Best Buy and Lenovo's online store, for delivery some time later this year.

A more elegant weapon

First, and most importantly, "Jedi Challenges" is a lot of fun.

In my demo, I swung the lightsaber controller to fight off Kylo Ren, the villain of the upcoming "Star Wars: The Last Jedi." The headset does a pretty reasonable job of making you think he's in the room with you, given the early stages of the technology. When you hold the lightsaber in your field of vision, it extends out a digital blade. The game is launching with 6 villains that you can fight, including Darth Maul.

Other modes include a strategy game where you act as the field general to the forces of the Resistance as they combat the villainous First Order. I didn't get to try it, but the concept of literally ordering virtual X-Wing fighters around my living room to attack is irresistible.

star wars jedi challenges

Finally, "Jedi Challenges" will feature "Holochess," the holographic chess game played by Chewbacca and C-3PO in 1977's "Star Wars: A New Hope." That's a pretty exciting inclusion for the discerning "Star Wars" fan.

There are some limitations: The motion-tracking for the lightsaber sometimes failed, even in my short demo, with that virtual blade jutting off at an awkward 90-degree angle. I was able to reset it, and it didn't interfere with my enjoyment. More worryingly, there's no multiplayer of any kind, at least in its current form.

With that said, "Jedi Challenges" represents a notable technical achievement.

Got it where it counts

Like Samsung's Gear VR, or Google's low-cost Cardboard virtual reality gear, the "Jedi Challenges" headset requires you to slot in your own smartphone to provide the computing muscle. And it comes with a bright purple "beacon" that you need to put on the floor in front of you, giving the system a point of reference for when it projects images.

Otherwise, it's self-contained. You put on the headset, and pick up the (very hefty, very solid-feeling) lightsaber controller, and you are a Jedi, like your father before you.

It should be noted, right off the bat, that "Jedi Challenges" pulls off some impressive technical feats. For example, the Microsoft HoloLens has a very limited field-of-view— meaning that the digital imagery is only visible in a small section of your vision.

star wars last jedi jedi challenges lenovo

"Jedi Challenges," by contrast, has a much wider field-of-view, encompassing most of the area in front of you. And this headset uses what's called "inside-out positional tracking," an inside-baseball term for a headset that doesn't require an exterior camera to track the movements of your head.

There are some trade-offs, however. To achieve that wider field-of-view using a smartphone's limited processing power, the resolution is fairly low, meaning things get blurry if you stare too close. And if there are plans to add more content later, Disney and Lenovo are staying mum for now, meaning it's pretty limited, all told.

And yet, the fact that there's going to be a consumer AR headset, for $199, that works, and works pretty well, before the end of 2017, is kind of crazy. I would never have thought it would get this close, so soon. But I guess nobody told Disney and Lenovo the odds.

The top 36 TV shows you should watch this fall

stranger things season 2

"Game of Thrones" is over, and it ended its seventh season just in time for fall TV to overwhelm you.

There's a lot of TV, and definitely not enough time to get around to all of it.

So we put together a handy guide to the fall 2017 TV shows that you should watch, from new shows to returning ones.

While the schedule looks most promising for returning shows, there are some exciting exceptions for new ones including a "Dynasty" reboot on The CW, and a new serial killer drama on Netflix from executive producer David Fincher.

Here's your guide to fall 2017 TV (arranged by date):

SEE ALSO: 34 movies you have to see this fall — including 'Justice League,' 'It,' and 'Blade Runner 2049'

"Narcos" — September 1 on Netflix

"Narcos" returns to Netflix for its third season, which will follow the rise of the Cali Cartel in the wake of Pablo Escobar’s death. Nice way to spend the last weekend of summer if you hate going outside.

"American Horror Story: Cult" — September 5 on FX

The seventh season of the anthology series is about cults, obviously. It is also kind of about the 2016 election. It stars Ryan Murphy's muse Sarah Paulson as well as Evan Peters, Cheyenne Jackson, Alison Pill, Billie Lord, Billy Eichner, and Lena Dunham.

"You're the Worst" — September 6 on FXX

The under-watched and underappreciated comedy that is sometimes a dramedy starts its fourth season. The show, about quirky and very flawed thirty-somethings in LA, has covered issues including PTSD and depression and is the most inventive, thoughtfully written show on TV right now.

Nintendo has been ordered to pay $10 million in a Wii lawsuit

Japanese video-game giant Nintendo was ordered by a Texas court on Thursday to pay out $10 million in a patent lawsuit filed by iLife Technologies.

The patent in question: a motion-sensing patent from iLife Technologies related to medical applications.

iLife alleged — and a Texas jury agreed — that Nintendo misappropriated iLife's patented technology for use in the Nintendo Wii game console. Specifically, iLife alleged that Nintendo's Wii remote controls — motion controllers — were infringing on iLife's patent.

Nintendo Wii Sports

The suit was filed over three years ago, and a jury came to a conclusion this week. Nintendo tells Rolling Stone that it plans to appeal the ruling.

Here's the full statement Nintendo issued following the ruling:

"On Aug. 31, 2017, a jury in Texas found that certain Wii and Wii U video game systems and software bundles infringed a patent belonging to iLife Technologies Inc. related to detecting if a person has fallen down. The jury awarded iLife $10 million in damages. Nintendo disagrees with the decision, as Nintendo does not infringe iLife’s patent and the patent is invalid. Nintendo looks forward to raising those issues with the district court and with the court of appeals."

The original suit filed by iLife sought $144 million — $4 for every one of the 36 million Nintendo Wii units sold before iLife filed its suit. Nintendo went on to sell over 100 million Wii units.

Should Nintendo lose the appeal and the Texas jury's decision stands, Nintendo will pay $10 million to iLife Technologies — or, approximately $0.27 for each of the 36 million Wii consoles sold prior to the lawsuit's filing.

Matt Damon says you have to write Trump a part if you want to shoot a movie in one of his buildings

Matt Damon

If you want to shoot in one of President Trump's buildings, you have to write him into a scene, according to Oscar winner Matt Damon.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Damon explained what exactly directors need to do in order to film inside one of Trump's buildings.

Damon was asked if he had ever met Trump, after remarking that he found Trump's “many sides” comments after Charlottesville to be "absolutely abhorrent."

Damon said he hadn't met Trump, and then revealed what director Martin Brest did to gain access to one of Trump's buildings to shoot a scene for "Scent of a Woman."

Damon said:

"No. The deal was that if you wanted to shoot in one of his buildings, you had to write him in a part. [Director] Martin Brest had to write something in 'Scent of a Woman' — and the whole crew was in on it. You have to waste an hour of your day with a bulls--t shot: Donald Trump walks in and Al Pacino’s like, 'Hello, Mr. Trump!' — you had to call him by name — and then he exits. You waste a little time so that you can get the permit, and then you can cut the scene out. But I guess in 'Home Alone 2' they left it in."

In short: The two basic requirements for shooting in a Trump building include putting Trump in a scene, and addressing him by name, according to Damon.

How this 'Broad City' star went from comedy to playing the King Joffrey of Netflix's 'Narcos'

Arturo Castro Narcos season 3

Season three of "Narcos," which follows the rise of the Cali Cartel, premieres on Netflix Friday. And you might recognize one of its new villains from Comedy Central's "Broad City," playing a very different role.

Arturo Castro, the Guatemalan actor who plays Ilana's roommate Jaimé on "Broad City" (season four out September 13), recently spoke to Business Insider about how that role led to "Narcos" (one of his favorite shows). He also spoke about the challenge of finding roles that represent Latinos in an authentic way, which he's trying to do with his Comedy Central pilot, "Alternatino."

Note: This interview has been edited for clarity.

Carrie Wittmer: How has "Broad City" changed your career so far? Has it gotten you more into comedy?

Arturo Castro: I stumbled into comedy. I was always drawn to it, but my background is mostly in dramatic theater. Abbi [Jacobson] and Ilana [Glazer] come from a long line of of improvisers, and they're very involved in the UCB community and I got to work on a show that Amy Poehler's involved in. I started to see comedy and understand comedy in different ways on set every day. I thought how cool it was for them [Jacobson and Glazer] to have created a career for themselves by creating their own show, and so I'm emulating that by creating my own show. So they've been my mentors throughout that process. And here we are, shooting a pilot.

Wittmer: So "Broad City" inspired you to make your own comedy series?

Castro: Definitely. If you have a voice that you don't feel is represented very specifically, then it's sort of your responsibility to create and amplify that voice. And I think comedy is a great way to do that. And somewhere along the way, "Narcos" and "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk" happened. It's been a crazy year.

Wittmer: Comedy is usually pretty dominated by white men. "Broad City" came in and it has two female leads and diverse characters, and now you're off doing your own stuff. Do you feel a responsibility to have your own voice out there?

Castro: Very much so. I think there's a certain narrative out there about what a Latino is. There's a certain negative connotation, especially in the political realm about what it means to be Latin. And I think it's completely wrong. It's definitely a responsibility. I created the show ["Alternatino"] because I realized that I have friends from all over the world. And our one common denominator is what we laugh at. There's so many shows about what makes us different, but not a lot of shows about what makes us the same. I fully intend to normalize what it means to be Latin nowadays. So yeah, there's a huge responsibility. I also just want to make people laugh.

Wittmer: Have you struggled finding roles that were a good representation of yourself and the Latino community?

Castro:  After "Broad City" the doors opened to me more. I think people just gave me a chance a little more to expand on what I wanted to do. But it's a tricky question. I played a lot of immigrant roles when I started out. And I still would. If something's well-written I'll do it, and I'll do it responsibly. For example, I was on "The Good Wife." The character's name is Dishwasher Juan. I swear to God. You can see it on my IMDB. I'm like, "You can't just call him Juan?" Definitely post-"Broad City," things have been great. I've been able to pick more roles that speak to me more than before I was on the show. I was a huge fan of "Narcos" for two seasons before I got on it.

Arturo Castro

Wittmer: What's your role on "Narcos" like? Has your experience in comedy informed you as a dramatic actor?

Castro: Nothing prepared me to play a ruthless drug dealer like Jaime. [Laughs]. The rough and tumble world of New York comedy. The character's name [on "Narcos"] is David Rodriguez. And he's the son of one of the cartel bosses. He's sort of like the Joffrey from "Game of Thrones" of this season. He's trying to protect the throne. "Narcos" and "Broad City" come out at the same time, so if you're watching both you're going to be very confused as to who I am. My voice right now sounds completely different than either of those characters, really. I'm just going through an identity crisis, I guess. [Laughs]

Wittmer: Makes sense.

Castro: I'm joking! So I get down there, and my contract was actually extended. The showrunners and the writers liked the work they started seeing. I really have to tell you this: there's something about comedic actors playing a character that's intimidating that can be a disturbing in a really good way. Because if you can find humor in really dark situations, it kind of puts everybody else off their feet, you know? So I think David, my character, definitely uses his own sardonic sort of humor to make the people he wants to intimidate very uncomfortable. I was shooting that, and then I would fly back and forth to New York to shoot "Broad City." And sometimes on the plane I had to decompress. Just remind yourself of who you are, where you're from. It's funny because there'd be a really dramatic scene in "Narcos" and I would be standing with my hand on my hip, just be distracted and Jaimé would sort of come out in my personality. And the director would be like, "Dude, you're doing Jaimé." And I was like "Sorry sorry sorry!" It was a surreal and wonderful experience.

Broad City

Wittmer: What are the sets on a dramatic, big-budget set like "Narcos" compared to "Broad City?"

Castro: Huge. Oh my God. They're so big. I've been on big movie sets before, but this is crazy. Definitely because of the budget that they're working with, that goes a long way in Colombia where things are a little less expensive than if you're shooting in the middle of New York City. On "Narcos," we have a huge club scene. We have like 400 extras and there's these big action sequences. I couldn't believe it. At some point it struck me, the reality of it. When we were kids we used to play these games like cops and robbers and here we are, just bigger kids with bigger toys doing the exact same thing. Obviously on a comedic set, everyone who works on "Broad City" (not myself) is a comedic genius and has been honing their craft for years. And now I got to see it on the dramatic side.

Wittmer: You compared your character on "Narcos" to King Joffrey. Do you think people will hate your character as much as they hate Joffrey? He is the worst.

Castro: Here's my take on that: I'm not trying to compare myself to that kid in the scope of it. But I think people will certainly disagree with my character's choices. What I'm hoping for is that they see that every brutal act he commits is out of loyalty to his father. Basically, he just wants his father to be protected. So if you can see it from the point of view that his loyalty never wavers, you can't disagree with his choices. With Joffrey, he just likes causing pain. My character, it's not that he likes causing pain. He sees people either as obstacles or facilitators to what he wants to achieve. If they're an obstacle, you just get rid of it. So it's a very mathematical thing. I'm sure some people are gonna be like,"'Jaimé, no! Stop it! What are you doing?!" There's definitely some things I'm gonna have to tell my mom to skip over. But do I think people will hate him? I hope not. I hope they're scared of him, but I hope they don't hate him.

Wittmer: Was it hard going back and forth between Jaimé, one of the most likable characters on television to this brutal villain?

Castro:  What you won't see on "Narcos" is that most of the time when my character does something particularly ruthless, when we cut, we would really laugh out loud. Because it's a moment of so much tension to the point where my producer was like, "Are you actually a psychopath?" I was like, "No! I'm just so excited." It wasn't hard in the sense of, "Oh, what are people gonna think?" But when you get back to your hotel room or your trailer or whatever, you do need to check in with yourself and be like, "It's make believe. It's all just make believe, let it go." When somebody's pretending that they're suffering right in front of you, your body doesn't know that. But you're still hearing somebody scream in deep pain and you know that you're causing it. I definitely have to shake off, as opposed to when I'm doing Jaimé, when what you hear is mostly laughter. So there's definitely something you have to shake off at the end of the day.

Wittmer: Is playing a bad guy as much fun as playing Jaimé?

Castro: It is so fun to play a bad guy. It is so much fun. If my character walks into the room and by the time he walks out everybody in the room looks like they want to kill him, I've done my job right. Being the mean girl of "Narcos" was really fun. I took my inspiration from Lindsay Lohan, as I do everything.

The summer box office sunk to an 11-year low

Transformers The Last Knight 2 Paramount final

This year's North American summer box office revenue is expected to come in at an 11-year low, according to The Hollywood Reporter's cited figures from comScore.

The analytics company predicts domestic revenue for the box office will reach roughly $3.87 billion, which represents a 15.7-percent decline since last year.

It will also be the first time since 2006 that the summer box office season didn't reach $4 billion in revenue.

One reported cause of the drop is that a number of "tentpole," or franchise, films drastically underperformed in the domestic market, including "Transformers: The Last Knight" ($132 million) and the Tom Cruise-led "The Mummy" ($80.1 million).

Many films that underperformed domestically were, however, rescued by a more robust international market, according to The Hollywood Reporter. For instance, "Transformers: The Last Knight" earned $604 million globally, but $474 million of its revenue came from overseas.

"The lesson for Hollywood this summer is that every movie counts when it comes to box office and there are no 'throwaway' titles," Paul Dergarabedian of comScore told THR. "At least three tentpoles missed the mark in North America as well as a handful of R-rated comedies that left audiences frowning, and the missing revenue from those failures could arguably have left a $500 million-plus void in the marketplace — enough to turn a potentially strong $4 billion-plus summer season heavyweight into a 98-pound weakling."

Warner Bros. reportedly wants Leonardo DiCaprio to play The Joker in the upcoming origin film

Warner Bros.' approach to an upcoming origin film for The Joker looks like it could be moving in a promising direction.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the studio will "make an ambitious attempt" to bring in Leonardo DiCaprio as the film's star.

Martin Scorsese, a longtime DiCaprio collaborator, was reported to be joining the movie as a producer last month, and the outlet's sources say that the studio will try to lure DiCaprio "into the world of comic-book movies" through Scorsese.

The report notes, however, that no offer has been made for DiCaprio at this time, and according to their sources, Scorsese isn't even finalized yet.

According to the initial scoop from Deadline, Todd Phillips ("The Hangover") will be directing the film, cowriting the script with Scott Silver ("8 Mile"), and producing alongside Scorsese.

The Joker origin movie will be the first title in a spin-off of Warner Bros.' DC Comics Extended Universe that will delve deeper into the DC catalog to focus on iconic characters.

Jared Leto, who starred as The Joker in 2016's "Suicide Squad," will not be playing the character in Phillips and Scorsese's film. THR's sources say that Leto was "caught off-guard" by the plans for a separate Joker movie, and that he "made his displeasure" known to his agents.
