Stephen Colbert

On Tuesday night’s “The Late Show,” host Stephen Colbert reacted to Donald Trump Jr. leaking his own emails with a Russian attorney in an unconventional way — an apology to his brother, Eric Trump.

“At this point, I would like to issue a formal apology,” Colbert said. “I’d like to apologize to Eric Trump. We always thought you were the dumb one. We were wrong.” Colbert put his hand over his heart then extended it to the camera.

"You know who else couldn’t believe that Don Jr. published these emails?” Colbert continued. “The journalists who have been trying to dig them up for months.”

Nintendo's new console is finally getting video streaming services

$

Nintendo's newest game console, the Switch, doesn't have any video streaming services. No Netflix, no Hulu, no Amazon, and no YouTube. Outside of games, there are no third-party apps on the Switch at all.

That's about to change for the first time since the Switch launched back in March.

NicoNico on Nintendo Switch

As seen above, the first third-party app headed to the Switch is a Japan-exclusive: NicoNico, a video streaming service that's very similar to YouTube. When the app launches on July 13, it'll be the first example of what services like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and YouTube will look like on the Switch.

Notoriously, none of those services are even formally announced as coming to the Switch. Nintendo has confirmed that plans exist, but the finest point the company will put on them is, "in time" — as in eventually Nintendo's Switch, a video game console from the year 2017, will have apps that have run on your phone for years.

Nintendo Switch

In case it wasn't clear, this isn't a measure of the Switch not being powerful enough to run streaming video apps. Nintendo of America senior public relations manager Kit Ellis explained the logic behind the absence of streaming apps in an interview with Business Insider earlier this year:

"At launch we are really trying to be clear that this is a gaming device first, so you're actually not gonna see a lot of that at launch. It doesn't mean that it's not going to come later on, but it likely won't be there at launch."

And now, in July 2017, we're four months out from the launch of the Nintendo Switch — it makes sense that NicoNico is arriving right now. That doesn't mean you should expect Netflix on the Switch any day now, but it appears that Nintendo is opening the door to third-party apps on the Switch.

We've asked Nintendo for more information on other third-party apps, but we've yet to hear back as of publishing. Check out NicoNico in action right here:

RANKED: The 20 best acting performances on 'Game of Thrones'

Game of Thrones Oberyn Tyrion

"Game of Thrones" is known for its shocking deaths, gruesome violence, gratuitous nudity, dragons, and a lot of other things. At awards shows it's often nominated for best drama, best directing, best writing, and other behind-the-scenes work.

But the actors on the show aren't usually recognized for their performances.

To pull off a character believably on a show of this scale, in such a crazy world, is no small feat. In most cases, you never know what a character is truly up to — and there are so many layers to these characters.

These actors deserve some recognition, so we put together a list of what we think are the best performances on the show so far.

Here's the 20 best performances on "Game of Thrones," ranked:

SEE ALSO: All the 'Game of Thrones' deaths, ranked from least tragic to most tragic

20. Mark Addy as Robert Baratheon

Robert Baratheon's time on "Game of Thrones" was very short, but Mark Addy brought a lot to the memorable character. Robert Baratheon wasn't a great person — he was a terrible king because he mostly just ignored his duties to drink and sleep around, and he had a temper problem. But Addy made the character come to life in a way that made us really miss him when he was gone. There isn't another character like him in Westeros.

Best quote: "I want the funeral feast to be the biggest the kingdom ever saw, and I want everyone to taste the boar that got me."

Best scene: King Robert's squire, Lancel Lannister puts armor on him while he talks to Ned. Ned suggests that he's too fat for his armor, and Robert jokingly demands that Lancel fetch him the breastplate stretcher, which does not exist. "The Wolf and the Lion" — Season 1, Episode 5.

19. Clive Russell as Brynden Tully/The Blackfish

The Blackfish is Catelyn Stark's uncle with an attitude, and Clive Russell goes all out with the limited screen time his character got on the show. The Blackfish is loyal to his family and to his house, but mostly loyal to himself. He escaped the Red Wedding (he was going to the bathroom outside when all the bad stuff happened). He took back Riverrun off-camera, and his scenes with Jaime in season six during when the Kingslayer was trying to take Riverrun back made us wish that we had been with him all along.

Best quote: "As long as I'm standing, the war is not over. This is my home. I was born in this castle and I'm ready to die in it. So you can either attack or try to starve us out. We have enough provisions for two years. Do you have two years, Kingslayer?"

Best scene: The Blackfish insults Jaime Lannister when he orders him to surrender Riverrun. "The Broken Man" — Season 6, Episode 7.

18. Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister

Tyrion Lannister is undoubtedly the most beloved and popular character on "Game of Thrones," and for good reason. Tyrion is one of the few characters left to root for, and in his performance, Peter Dinklage proves that it was the role he was born to play. Dinklage's performance is bigger compared to some of the others on the show, and that totally works for his character. As the series goes on, Tyrion faces more and more physical and internal battles, which shows off Dinklage's range more than it did in earlier seasons.

Dinklage has been nominated for an Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series for all six seasons, and won for his performances in seasons one and five.

Best quote: "A day will come when you think you are safe and happy, and your joy will turn to ashes in your mouth. And you will know the debt is paid."

Best scene: Tyrion rallies up the men at King's Landing during the Battle of Blackwater after King Joffrey abandons them. "Blackwater" — Season 2, Episode 9.

3 Americans who stopped a terrorist attack in Paris will play themselves in Clint Eastwood's new movie

clint eastwood

Clint Eastwood has cast three Americans who stopped a 2015 terrorist attack on a Paris train to play themselves in his next movie, "The 15:17 to Paris," Variety reports.

The film will follow the lives of Anthony Sadler, National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos, and US Airman Spencer Stone — three childhood friends from California who were traveling through Europe on a high-speed train when they thwarted an armed attack from a suspected Islamist militant.

The movie is based on a book that the three men co-wrote about the ordeal, titled "The 15:17 to Paris: The True Story of a Terrorist, a Train, and Three American Heroes."

The three real-life heroes will star alongside Jenna Fischer, Judy Greer, and Ray Corasani in the film. Eastwood reportedly auditioned a number of actors for the role of the three Americans before deciding to cast the real-life men.

Sources told Variety that the movie will "begin during their childhood and show their friendship leading up to the moment that changed their lives." The roles will reportedly be sizable, though not "full-on leads."

"The 15:17 to Paris" follows Eastwood's recent trend of tapping into true stories of American heroism for his films.

His 2014 film "American Sniper" followed US Navy SEAL Chris Kyle's exploits in Iraq, and 2016's "Sully" recounted the US Airways Captain Chelsey "Sully" Sullenberger's emergency landing of a plane on the Hudson River in 2009.

Here's everything you need to know about Azor Ahai — the legendary savior on 'Game of Thrones'

$

Which character will come out on top on Game of Thrones? A Westerosi prophecy suggests that a mythic figure called Azor Ahai could be the one to save Westeros from the White Walkers and win the Game of Thrones. Here's who the myth says it may be.

Follow Tech Insider: On Facebook

Following is a transcript of the video:

Winter has come to Westeros. So who will protect the realm?
Azor Ahai is thought to be the legendary Last Hero who saved the world a long time ago during the "Long Night" when the White Walkers attacked from the North with an army of frozen zombies. He led the realm to victory with a flaming sword called "Lightbringer" which he sacrificed his wife to make. The Wall was built to prevent this from happening again.
Melisandre believes Azor Ahai will return “When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt to wake dragons out of stone.”

So who really is Azor Ahai?
Melisandre thought it was Stannis Baratheon. He pulled a sword out of the fire by the sea, and sacrificed his daughter to the Lord of Light. But it turns out she was wrong, and now he's dead.

There are two more likely candidates: Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow. Daenerys fits most of the requirements. She is a Targaryen, born on the island of Dragonstone near a salty sea. She walked into flames and emerged unscathed, reborn. While a red comet soared overhead. She birthed 3 dragons from stone eggs and her husband Khal Drogo was sacrificed. She doesn't have a sword, but her dragons might be considered "Lightbringer." She is a powerful force who hopes to reclaim the Iron Throne.

Jon Snow also seems to be a perfect fit. Melisandre constantly sees him in her fiery visions. "I pray for a glimpse of Azor Ahai, and R'hllor shows me only Snow." When he was born, a bloody sword called Dawn was leaning on the bed. The sword was made from a fallen star. He caused the death of his love Ygritte. When Jon was killed in the books, his wounds smoked while Bowen Marsh cried salty tears. He has a Valyrian steel sword which can kill White Walkers. He has yet to release any stone dragons. But Season 7 might prove otherwise.

Mariah Carey caused a 's--t storm' on the latest Will Ferrell movie, and refused to sing her own song

Mariah Carey Pascal Le Segretain Getty final

It sounds like Mariah Carey was in peak diva mode when she went to film her cameo for the Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler comedy "The House." It got so bad that it was never shot.

Ferrell didn't even deflect the drama when doing press for the movie.

While on "Watch What Happens Live," host Andy Cohen got to the bottom of it. Cohen asked Ferrell if Carey was four hours late to the set of the movie, which is what was rumored, and Ferrell confirmed that was true. Ferrell also confirmed that Carey refused to sing a song that was agreed upon and cleared before shooting that she would sing. Ferrell couldn't recall what the song was, but it was a Carey song.

Looking back on it, Ferrell called the whole experience a "s--t storm" and only learned that the cameo wouldn't be shot when, "At 11 p.m. there was a knock on my trailer door and they said, 'You can go home,'" Ferrell told Cohen.

That sparked Ferrell's co-star on the movie, Cedric Yarbrough ("Reno 911!") to jump on his Facebook page and give some more horrors from set (the post has since been deleted but you can read his comments on TooFab).

the house warner bros"Okay since Will Ferrell is talking, I'ma talk-ing," Yarbrough wrote. "Yeah, a real funny cameo was SUPPOSED to happen in the new film #TheHouse with the superstar Mariah Carey. But it was ruined by superstar Mariah Carey. The film takes place in a suburban home but is made into a 'Casino.' Why not have Mariah be an act in the casino? Funny idea... It's rumored that she eventually showed up to set. This is true. But after waiting for her for 3-4 hours! While we waited the director & team had the idea of doing a stunt that Mariah's body double would do now & bring in Mariah to match it. They do the stunt. All goes well. When Mariah finally showed up she refused to match the stunt. 'Darling, I would never do it that way...'. I heard her say those exact words... She then requested a large fan for her hair to be blown around and a camera that would be above her, basically a crane shot. This lady was unprofessional & borderline abusive to our director, who tried his best to appease her every wish."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Carey also requested that her character be able to deflect bullets like Wonder Woman.

"The House" director Andrew Jay Cohen has taken the high road on the matter. "I love Mariah Carey," he told THR. Though with a little shade: "I liked her early stuff but then she got bad with the third album."

But a Mariah Carey cameo probably wouldn't have saved "The House." The movie has a 19% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and to date has grossed $24.6 million worldwide. This includes an $8.7 million opening weekend, the worst for a wide release Will Ferrell movie.

Carey's representatives were not immediately available for comment.

The 11 best reasons to buy a Nintendo Switch

$
0
0

The new hybrid video-game console from Nintendo has been out for several months now, and it's off to a strong start: The Switch is already Nintendo's fastest-selling game console.

Nintendo Switch

Like so many things, its success comes as a surprise to experts in the field — the $299 console isn't very competitive on paper, and it wasn't a guaranteed success in concept.

  • It's underpowered compared with the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, both of which cost less.
  • It has a paltry game library compared to the competition.
  • Because of its lack of horsepower, major games released on multiple platforms (think: "Assassin's Creed," "Call of Duty," "Grand Theft Auto," etc.) won't ever come to the Switch.

But actually using the Switch is a surprising delight. I've had the Switch for four months, and it's quickly become a part of my daily life for several reasons.

SEE ALSO: Nintendo's new console is having an incredible run, and the future looks even brighter

1. The Nintendo Switch is remarkably fast, which is more important than you'd think.

Using the Switch feels blessedly modern.

Unlike the often sludgy experience on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, powering up and using the Switch is quick and easy. At any moment in-game, you can push the console's Home button and immediately exit to the dashboard. This concept also exists on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but it's far quicker and more seamless on the Switch.

Frankly speaking, it doesn't feel like a technological downgrade from using the smartphone in my pocket. Even the user interface is clean and efficient — no digging through sub-menus to figure out how to turn off WiFi or figure out how much storage I'm using. It's this kind of "quality of life" stuff that makes using the Switch intuitive and accessible to pretty much any user.

2. Sleep Mode turns the Switch into a game console that's quickly accessible.

A major reason people are inclined to play games on their phones is ease of use. A phone is already in your pocket and takes just a second to wake up, which lets you get in and out of apps and games quickly. The Switch takes this concept to heart with Sleep Mode, which enables the console to operate like, say, a laptop or a tablet.

Rather than turning the console all the way off, you can simply enter Sleep Mode: a low-power mode that enables the console to be quickly accessed once again, comparable to reopening a laptop screen. No restarting the game — you're back exactly where you left off.

Though comparable functions exist on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, the Switch pulls it off much more cleanly — a nod to the portability of the console.

3. Jumping into games in general is surprisingly fast.

I've been taking a ton of screenshots on the Switch, and getting them off the Switch requires removing the microSD card I have inserted. And every time I remove the microSD card, I have to power the Switch all the way down. Bummer!

Thankfully, restarting the Switch — even a "cold boot," as it's known — is remarkably quick. I just tested: It takes roughly 10 seconds from all the way off to the main menu. I'd bet any amount of money that it's faster than the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

This is partially due to the design of the hardware itself, and partially due to the medium used for games: cartridges. In both instances, Nintendo smartly prioritized for consumer experience — and it makes a major difference in daily use.

Snapchat's next original show will be about the phenomenon of "ghosting" — or unexpectedly ceasing all communication with — people you date.

"Ghost Hunt" will star comedian Matteo Lane and be produced by Elisabeth Murdoch's Vertical Networks, which already produces a Snapchat Discover channel called Brother.

The eight-episode, unscripted series will feature Lane helping "a real person track down someone from their romantic past who ghosted them, ultimately bringing the two parties together for some 'ball-busting and closure,'" according to a press release.

"Ghost Hunt" signals Snap's growing interest in exclusive shows. The company, which recently struck a $100 million production deal with Time Warner, aims to have three shows airing per day in its app by the end of the year. Snap has already aired or plans to air more than a dozen shows.

Snap's largest competitor, Facebook, is also gearing up for a push into original shows this year. The social network has already greenlit several shows to premiere in a forthcoming redesign of its video tab.

A psychologist 'diagnosed' Game of Thrones characters as if they were his patients — here's what he came up with

$

joffrey

Is Joffrey a psychopath? Why is Ramsay Bolton so mean?

Westeros doesn't seem to have psychologists to answer these questions, but thankfully the real world does.

Dr. Kirk Honda is a licensed marriage and family therapist who hosts a podcast called Psychology in Seattle. On the show, he's "diagnosed" a few Game of Thrones villains as if they were patients on his office couch.

Of course, no psychologist or psychiatrist can actually diagnose anyone, real or fictional, without meeting them. But Honda took his best shot anyway.

You can listen to everything Honda had to say about each character in his podcast, available here, but he also agreed to provide Business Insider with a short summary of five characters' diagnoses.

Ramsay Bolton: Sexual sadism disorder, sadistic personality disorder, and anti-social personality disorder/psychopathy

"In my opinion, Ramsay has sexual sadism disorder along with sadistic personality disorder...since he demonstrates marked pleasure and complete lack of remorse from the suffering of others," Honda told Business Insider.

Honda dubbed Ramsay the most problematic character in the show, due to his "tremendous pleasure in harming others," even when that sadistic behavior doesn't benefit him in the long run.

"Anti-social or psychopathic [personality disorders]... are both related to sadism and its sub-category, sexual sadism," Honda explained, adding that the two are "slightly different but largely overlapping."

He added that Ramsay's disorders are likely due to "his biological inheritance from Roose Bolton, who also exhibited significant psychopathic behavior, particularly before Ramsay was born, and Ramsay’s difficult childhood."

Listen to the full podcast

Joffrey Baratheon: Conduct Disorder and Sadistic Personality Disorder

Honda believes Joffrey suffers from a specific form of sadistic personality disorder called tyrannical sadism, due to his habit of relishing in "verbally and physically harming and abusing others with his power."

But Honda hesitated to apply too many labels to Joffrey because personality disorders in minors are usually not diagnosed until they become adults and their personalities finish forming. For that reason, Honda diagnosed Joffrey with conduct disorder "because he exhibits a pattern of violating the rights of others."

Honda believes Joffrey's disorder stems from "abuse from his father, distant mother, trauma from parental conflict and violence, looking like a girl and being teased — a detail that's in the books — inbreeding, mother drinking while pregnant, being told he’s better than others, and poor parenting."

Listen to the full podcast

Cersei Lannister: Anti-social Personality Disorder/Psychopathy

Cersei's diagnosis isn't as straightforward as the others, Honda said, because of her position as a female in a highly patriarchal society. Cersei was marginalized and abused by her father and husband when she was younger, and "is surrounded by a context that values power, specifically royal power, so her psychopathic behavior could be a result of circumstances and culture, rather than personality," he said.

Unlike Joffrey and Ramsay, most of Cersei's anti-social acts are "instrumental in gaining power and could be considered acts of survival, from her perspective."

Honda believes Cersei may also have alcohol dependence issues, though she doesn't seem to experience any ill effects from her heavy drinking (a criterion for the disorder).

"In my opinion, she seems to drink to cope with the stress of her life, which is tremendous. It’s common for people to self-medicate in this way," Honda said.

Jason bateman on ozark

Jason Bateman is back on Netflix, but this time it's not with the Bluth family  and it's definitely not a comedy.

He's stars alongside Laura Linney in  "Ozark," and Netflix just released a gripping new trailer.

Bateman plays Marty, a financial planner, and Linney plays his wife, Wendy. They suddenly uproot their family from the suburbs of Chicago to a resort community in the Missouri Ozarks (hey, that's the title of the show!). And it turns out they're on the run from a drug lord.

Things look like they get really dark over the 10-episode first season, and unfortunately for Marty, there's definitely no money hidden in any banana stands.

Set to debut on July 21, "Ozark" is the first series regular role for Bateman since "Arrested Development." It's also Linney's first TV role since Showtime's "The Big C" ended in 2013. Chris Mundy ("Hell on Wheels," "Criminal Minds") serves as the showrunner.

Subscription-based services are taking over television as we know it, and if you want to learn more about the growth and success of subscription-based networks, don't miss Business Insider's flagship conference, IGNITION.

Richard Plepler, CEO of premium TV network HBO, will take stage at Business Insider's flagship event, IGNITION: Future of Media, November 29-30, in New York City.

With the success of Netflix, many other networks have jumped on board with, and recently began offering, standalone services. Hulu, Showtime, and Amazon Prime are just a few examples. HBO launched its standalone subscription-based service, HBO Now, in 2015.

In 2014, Plepler said HBO's "model is building addicts"— and they have certainly done that. Most recently, HBO has seen huge success with "Big Little Lies," which premiered in February. The finale, which aired on April 2, attracted 1.9 million viewers.

Of course with the success of HBO programs comes the success of its subscription service. As of February, HBO Now surpassed 2 million paid subscribers.

Whether it's a "Game of Thrones" spinoff or a second season of "Big Little Lies," we’re interested to see what’s next for Plepler and HBO.

That’s why we’re so excited to learn from Plepler this November.

We’re rolling out the rest of the lineup over the coming months, assembling a unique array of New York stars with the biggest names of Silicon Valley and beyond.

Business Insider IGNITION 2017 will take place November 29-30 at the Time Warner Center in New York City. Right now we're offering Early Bird tickets that will save you $500 — don't miss out!

Emilia Clarke says she gets 'a lot of crap' for doing Daenerys nude scenes, but one sex scene was empowering

Daenerys Targaryen Daario Game of Thrones

Particularly in its early seasons, "Game of Thrones" was directly associated with boobs and butts and a lot of blood — the first two mostly there for no particular reason, story-wise.

Actress Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen, has been naked quite a lot. Sometimes it's because her clothes get burnt when she's casually walking through fire, sometimes because she's taking a bath, and sometimes because of a sex scene.

Ahead of the season seven premiere of "Game of Thrones" on Sunday, Emilia Clarke did an interview and cover shoot for the August edition ofElle, and talked about the importance of a particularly sexy sex scene with Daario back in season four. In the scene, Daenerys takes control and demands that Daario take off his clothes. It's significant because she holds all the power, unlike her first sex scene of the show, when she is raped by Khal Drogo on her wedding night.

"I actually went up to ['Game of Thrones' co-creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss] and thanked them," Clarke said. "I was like, 'That's a scene I've been waiting for!' Because I get a lot of crap for having done nudes scenes and sex scenes. That, in itself, is so anti-feminist. Women hating on other women is just the problem. That's upsetting, so it's kind of wonderful to have a scene where I was like, 'There you go!'"

There probably won't be much time for boobs and butts on the show moving forward, but plenty for blood. Following Tyrion's advice, Daenerys left Daario in Meereen at the end of season six because he would've been a liability in Westeros.

American music artist Kid Rock set social media ablaze Wednesday after teasing a website with the browser address "kidrockforsenate.com."

Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, said on Twitter that he received "a ton of emails and texts" asking if the website was real. Also accompanying the tweet was a picture of a campaign poster on a patch of grass:

Following the tweet, he hinted at another revelation: "Stay tuned, I will have a major announcement in the near future - Kid Rock," he tweeted.

The website appears to promote "KID ROCK FOR US SENATE" apparel, such as hats, yard signs, and bumper stickers.

But some skeptical Twitter users stumbled across evidence that suggests the latest news may be musical in nature, due to the website's possible affiliation with Warner Bros. Records, a major US record label.

Journalists scouring Federal Election Commission filings to find evidence that Kid Rock may be running for the Senate also came up short:

Others were quick to add their thoughts on the musician's potential bid for Congress:

LaBeouf's apology comes after TMZ obtained body-cam footage of his arrest, which revealed the 31-year-old actor lashing out at his arresting officers with repeated obscenities and racist remarks.

At one point in the video, LaBeouf calls an officer a ""dumb f---" and "f---ing b-----." He later tells a black officer that he's going "straight to hell ... cause he’s a black man."

"My outright disrespect of authority is problematic to say the least, and completely destructive to say the worst," LaBeouf wrote on Twitter. "It is a new low. A low I hope is the bottom."

LaBeouf has had a history of run-ins with the law throughout his career, including an arrest on suspicion of assault earlier this year at a protest he coordinated against Donald Trump's presidency in New York.

Christopher Nolan said he'd be open to directing a James Bond film — here's what that could look like

In a recent interview with Playboy, Christopher Nolan, the lauded director of  the "Dark Knight" trilogy, and "Dunkirk" which releases July 21, revealed that he is open to directing a James Bond film in the future.

Here's what he said:

“A Bond movie, definitely, I’ve spoken to the producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson over the years. I deeply love the character, and I’m always excited to see what they do with it. Maybe one day that would work out. You’d have to be needed, if you know what I mean. It has to need reinvention; it has to need you. And they’re getting along very well.”

While Nolan said he would only step in to direct the Bond franchise if needed, it turns out he may be needed after all. Bond's most recent director Sam Mendes, who directed both "Skyfall" and "Spectre," is planning on stepping down from directing any additional Bond films in the future.

"It was an incredible adventure, I loved every second of it. But I think it's time for somebody else," Mendes, according to The Hollywood Reporter

With Mendes presumably moving on to other projects, a void is left to be filled, and it feels more likely than ever that Nolan could be the one to fill it. This wouldn't be the first time Nolan has taken on a big film franchise. Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy, part of the Batman franchise, succeeded at producing some of the most popular, and highest-grossing films of all time.

Nolan seems to have been just mulling over the idea of directing a Bond film in his Playboy interview, but this made us wonder what a Nolan-directed Bond film might look like, should the director ever decide to sit at the helm of the massive 25-film franchise.

Taking into consideration the common themes and style choices Nolan has employed in his past films, this is what we believe we could expect to see in a Nolan-directed Bond film.

Bond could become more of an 'anti-hero.'

James Bond has always been the epitome of style, poise, class, and a sort of understated masculine strength. You would be hard-pressed to find someone who isn't impressed by Bond's elegant version of heroism, but that could all change should Nolan take over. Nolan is famous for blurring the lines between hero and anti-hero. In both "Memento" and "The Dark Knight," Nolan explores the concept of heroism and alludes to the notion that no one is able to cleanly separate themselves completely from good or evil.

"Memento," the film that made Nolan a director to watch, revolves solely around this theme of moral ambiguity. In "Memento," the protagonist Leonard Shelby doggedly fights his short-term memory loss to find his wife's killer. He appears to be the 'good guy,' up until the end of the film when he discovers that he is the one who has killed his wife.

Daniel Craig, who has played Bond in the four most recent films, originally began to push Bond in the direction of the anti-hero when he made his debut in "Casino Royale," playing a colder Bond, less enamored with his lavish lifestyle (Craig's Bond doesn't care whether or not his martini is shaken or stirred). It's more than plausible that Nolan would pick up where Craig has left off, and continue to reveal an even darker side of the beloved, dashing British spy, while playing with the theme of moral ambiguity that he seems to favor.

We could learn more about Bond's past.

Nolan is prone to telling stories out of sequence: "Memento," "Interstellar," and "Inception" are all primary examples of this. Nolan's love of a nonlinear story could provide Bond fans with more insight into the elusive character's past.

So little is known about Bond's past, other than the small tid-bits of information provided in Ian Fleming's James Bond novels, and Bond films over the years. In "Skyfall" we get a bigger glimpse into Bond's past when he brings M to his childhood home in the highlands, Skyfall Lodge (which Bond ultimately ends up blowing up).

Perhaps Nolan will employ a bit of time-traveling to more intimately explore the character's past, either continuing to dig deeper into Skyfall Lodge's history, or what it was like when Bond was orphaned at 11 years old, or maybe even spotlight Bond's time served in the British Navy.

We could have more insight into Bond's psyche.

Bond is a man of very few words and reveals very little about himself. Bond's reserved nature has been a major hallmark of his character since the start of the Bond franchise. Bond has always emotionally detached himself from everyone he interacts with, one might assume this is a form of self-preservation due to the nature of his work, but no one knows why definitively.

Nolan, who has a penchant for creating psychologically troubled characters (e.g., Lenny Shelby, Bruce Wayne, the Joker, etc.) could delve deeper into Bond's psyche, and possibly endow him with a more psychologically troubled personality.

In "Skyfall," the cyber-terrorist Raoul Silva (played by Javier Bardem), reveals Bond's private debriefing results to him (from his MI6 evaluation that happens at the beginning of the film), telling him that it appears he has an addiction problem, as well as a problem with authority due to childhood trauma. Additionally, we know that Bond has been tortured numerous times, witnessed countless deaths (including that of his bride who was murdered shortly after their wedding in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service"), so maybe Nolan won't impose more trauma upon Bond, just unpack the trauma we already know is there.

"The Big Sick," which will get its wide release in theaters Friday, is already being called one of the best romantic comedies of all time by critics.

The indie flick has a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and is based on the real-life relationship of screenwriters Kumail Nanjiani and Emily Gordon, and the cultural differences and struggles they initially faced as a couple.

Its authenticity and warmth has charmed early audiences.

But what other romantic movies actually make the audience feel something, and are worth your time?

We've prepared a comprehensive list of the best romantic movies to watch on Netflix. From studio rom-coms like “10 Things I Hate About You” and “Bridget Jones' Diary,” to lesser-known titles like “Take This Waltz” and “Punch-Drunk Love,” there’s a lot of passion going on in this list.

Here are 19 romantic movies on Netflix you need to check out:

Note: Numerous Netflix titles drop off the streaming service monthly so the availability of titles below may change.

"Midnight in Paris"

Owen Wilson perfectly plays the lackadaisical Gil, who while on vacation with his fiance Inez (Rachel McAdams) finds himself chasing a new romance every evening when the clock strikes midnight, and he's transported back in time to 1920s Paris.

“Moonrise Kingdom”

Two young lovers run away from a New England town leading to a search party to track them down. But from the mind of director Wes Anderson, that means a highly stylized search party.

"Punk-Drunk Love"

Barry Egan (Adam Sandler), an emotionally illiterate salesman whose primary hobby includes stockpiling pudding, ends up on an unusual adventure when he finds himself being extorted by a phone-sex line.

You have to see 'Mario Kart' in VR, which is a real thing that you can play

What's more fun than playing a round of "Mario Kart" with friends? Literally inhabiting the body of Super Mario, obviously, and throwing green shells with your actual hands!

That's the goal with "Mario Kart GP VR," a real "Mario Kart" game being made. Look at this madness:

The game is a virtual reality adaptation of the already very fun "Mario Kart GP" — an arcade racing game that uses pedals and a steering wheel, like the kind you see in movie theater lobbies based on the "Fast & the Furious" movies. Though the "Mario Kart" arcade machines originate in Japan, they often appear in American arcades (and movie theater lobbies).

The twist with "Mario Kart GP VR," of course, is that you're also wearing a VR headset. You're literally inhabiting Mario, or Luigi, or Peach, or Yoshi, and you're literally throwing green shells and bananas at your opponents. A motion sensor attaches to your wrist while playing, thus allowing the game to track you using items.

Mario Kart GP VR

It's not clear when the game will launch, or if it will come to the United States — it's only slated for release in Japan at the moment. Notably, though this is an officially licensed project from Nintendo, the game is actually being made by another Japanese game developer: Namco, the company behind classics like "Pac-Man" and "Tekken."

Check out the latest video of "Mario Kart GP VR" in action right here — it's beyond worth your time:

After cutting 40% of its staff, SoundCloud still reportedly has only enough money to last for 50 days

Soundcloud co-founder Eric Wahlforss

SoundCloud only has enough funding to continue its operations for another 50 days, according to a TechCrunch report.

The music streaming service recently laid off 173 employees— roughly 40 percent of its workforce — in an effort to cut costs and and remain independent.

But according to TechCrunch's sources, the company's founders Alex Ljung and Eric Wahlforss admitted the massive layoffs have only saved enough money to last the streaming service "until Q4," which is 50 days away.

SoundCloud responded to TechCrunch's story by refuting the leaked statistic and insisting that the service is "fully funded into Q4."

The spokesperson did admit, however, that the company is now in talks with potential investors to secure new funding.

In a statement following the company's layoffs just last week, CEO Alex Ljung painted a much more optimistic picture of the streaming service's future, stating that the cuts would put the company on a "path to profitability" and allow it to remain "in control of [its] independent future."

SoundCloud executives stated early this year that the service would be at risk of running out of money in 2017. The company lost around $52 million in 2015 (the last official numbers reported) and has suffered from the financial struggles of its subscription service, SoundCloud Go+

In addition to the layoffs, SoundCloud also closed two of its offices in San Francisco and London.

The TechCrunch report reveals a chaotic scene at the company's two remaining offices, in New York and Berlin (its headquarters), since last week's layoffs.

Sources told the outlet that the company admitted it had "known for months that it had to lay off a large number of people," but held back from informing any of its team that they should cut costs ahead of the layoffs.

Soundcloud wasn't immediately available for further comment.
