Of Course Gary Busey Is Making Cheapo Ads For Kia Dealerships

0
0

gary busey

Put Gary Busey, a bikini-clad model, and a man in a hamster suit in front of a green screen, and you get one fantastically awful regional ad campaign for Kia.

The notoriously kooky D-lister must have done something right on "Celebrity Apprentice", because some Kia execs decided to make Busey the company's regional spokesperson for local dealerships in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania and Houston, Texas

In the words of the spokesman himself, "I just met the party patrol, and they showed me around town, and I'm going to be here for a while."

Often kicking off the 15-second spots on either a bizarre tangent, one of his famous Buseyism (K-I-A: Kia Is Awesome!), or a facial tick so explosive that it blows out his neck, these ads are must-sees.

No word yet on what it will take to promote Busey to the position of national spokesperson. We hear Kia is planning on making a Super Bowl ad...

angelina jolie

Okay, so in case you didn't gather this from the headline, Angelina Jolie is about to do something she has never done before -- and that's saying a lot, considering we're talking about a woman who wore a vial of Billy Bob Thornton's blood around her neck.

Tomorrow, Angie will be doing a live video chat with fans, focusing on her highly anticipated directorial debut, In the Land of Blood & Honey. "This is my first online chat and I'm thrilled that Hearst is broadcasting this across so many of its websites to reach such a diverse audience as the film expands into more theaters," she stated.

In order to participate, you must go to MarieClaire.com, RSVP, and submit the questions you would like to see answered. The chat is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST. I actually think this is a pretty cool idea, and I'm sure you do too. What are your burning questions for Miss Jolie?

Guess Which Musician Just Married His Son's Ex-Girlfriend?

Bryan Ferry

Remember this (sort of) hit "Love Is The Drug" music video from British rock band, Roxy Music?

Yeah, neither do we.

And while Roxy music hasn't been making much of it lately, the band's frontman, Bryan Ferry, is in the news today for another reason-- marrying his son's ex-girlfriend!

Ferry, 66, tied the knot with 29-year-old former fashion PR executive, Amanda Sheppard, on January 4 in Turks and Caicos.

Sheppard is the former girlfriend of one of Ferry's four sons from his first marriage, which ended in 2003.

And it seems Father Ferry has always been quite the ladies man. The Brit rocker was previously linked to model Jerry Hall in the 1970s, until she famously left him for Mick Jagger. Upgrade!

Ferry has been dating his latest arm candy since 2009. A spokesperson for the star confirmed the couple wed in a "simple private ceremony" at the Caribbean islands' posh Amanyara resort.

And in case you were wondering, the bride wore a white dress by Lanvin while the groom donned a navy blue suit.

"I’m very fortunate that I work in music, where you’re in touch with different age groups, either the audience or people you work with. It does help," Ferry told the Daily Mail. "Obviously I’m not ageist!"

See The Sexy Dakota Fanning Cover Cosmo Sold Vs. The Cleaner Copy They Showed Advertisers

dakota fanning radio

Cosmo's February issue created quite the stir for featuring a not quite 18-year old Dakota Fanning pouting  next to a slew of sexually explicit headlines.

But, according to the New York Observer, advertisers saw a different, tamer version of Cosmo's racy cover.

Advertising-friendly headlines like "Feel Close After a Fight" and "Spring Clothes, Hair, Nails" were swapped for "His Best Sex Ever" and "Too Naughty To Say Here!"

This issue came out months after Fanning's ad for Marc Jacobs' Oh Lola! perfume was banned in the UK for appearing to sexualize a child.

But this isn't the first time that Cosmo has sent advertisers toned-down covers. Thus, the tactic was not implemented specifically for their 17-year old cover model.

Jezebel reported that the newsstand headlines promising "60 Sex Tips" and "Orgasm Virgins" on the January 2011 issue, featuring Ashley Greene, also magically disappeared when it was sent to advertisers.

15 Celebrity Parents Who Produced Songs For Their Tots

Will Smith Jay-Z Madonna

It hasn't even been a week since Beyoncé gave birth to Blue Ivy, and thanks to famous pop Jay-Z, the newborn is already the youngest person evert to appear on a Billboard chart.

The proud father put together "Glory" a lovely lullaby that gives his 6-day-old daughter credit, "featuring B.I.C." in which he raps about his little bundle of joy:

"Baby I paint the sky blue, my greatest creation was you."

The end of the song even features baby Blue crying in the background. Few celebrity totsincluding Stevie Wonder's daughter Aishacan say they've performed with their megastar parents from a young age.

However, Jay-Z wasn't the first celeb-dad, let alone parent, to pen a few lyrics for the apple of his eye. From Beatles' John Lennon to Hip-hop, R&B megastar, Usher, to Material Girl Madonna, plenty of celebs have produced songs for their children.

Does "Glory" take the cake for baby ballads?

Billy Joel, "Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel)"

Billy Joel wrote the heartfelt ballad for daughter Alexa Ray when she was seven after she asked him the big question, "Daddy what happens when you die?"

"Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel)" was Joel's answer, and a fine one at that. We couldn't have come up with one better.

"And like a boat out on the ocean
I'm rocking you to sleep,
The water's dark and deep
Inside this ancient heart
You'll always be a part of me."

Sheryl Crow, "Lullaby for Wyatt"

To celebrate Sheryl Crow's adoption of first son Wyatt in 2007 and she wrote this love song lullaby for her tot the following year. Funny enough, Crow admitted son Wyatt enjoyed listening to the noiser "Shine Over Babylon" to put him to sleep.

"Whenever he would get a little fussy, we would just put on "Shine Over Babylon" and he'd go straight down," Crow told USA Today. "He wanted to hear something loud and boisterous."

Harry Chapin, "Dancing Boy"

Almost everyone knows Harry Chapin's 1974 US single, "Cats in the Cradle," about a negligent father; however, have you heard the song about the boy behind the hit?

Four years later, Chapin wrote this song about his song Josh who used to dance while he performed in the studio.

The "Dancing Boy" lyrics tell a different tale than the hit we've come to know.

"Yes, I'm so proud when you are with me,
That my heart digs in my throat.
And when you stop to strut your stuff,
My eyes go all afloat."

How Twitter Got This Fan A Date With Jason Segel (VIDEO)

Jason Segel

Little did 23-year-old recent Indiana grad Chelsea Gill know that posting a YouTube video of herself singing the "Jason Segel Song" would land the current Chicago resident a date with her favorite Hollywood celebrity.

After singing a hilarious and heartwarming ode to Segel that currently has over 322,000 hits on YouTube, Chelsea scored a date with her main "Muppets" man.

But how could anyone say no to a gal who croons, "perhaps you'd like a scotch or rum, because when I'm drunk I'm so much fun…I'll get you home before it's light, just one drink, it won't take all night."

After Gill tweeted her YouTube video to @JasonSegel, the actor retweeted it and then had his publicist get in touch with Gill directly.

"His publicist was in contact with me and said he was going to be in town on Saturday and wanted to know if I wanted to go to an award's show with him," Gill explained to Showbiz Tonight's A.J. Hammer. "Of course, I said yes!"

A few days later, Gill and her twin sister were accompanying Segel to a Chicago award's show-- as his dates.

"It was absolutely not a gimmick at all, it felt 100-percent genuine," Gill told Hammer. "It felt like hanging out with my friends, he's so down to earth and we got along really great."

Segel even tweeted a pic of his dates: "Chelsea Gill (who wrote the great song) and her twin sister and I at the Comedy awards. I'm not sure which is which pic.twitter.com/e3XDCO0E."

As for a second date? Gill says she is "a classy lady" who likes to be asked out so "the ball is in his court."

This year's People's Choice Awards weren't for all people as much as say, audiences who like things that aren't that funny.

Thank goodness for break away skits.

Don't worry Neil Patrick Harris and Adam Sandler, there's always next time...

FUNNY: Bridesmaids Break Out In Song

Wait, The New York Times Is Seriously Asking Its Readers Whether They Want It To Tell The Truth?

0
0

As best we can tell, the following column in the New York Times is not a joke:

NYT Truth

In other words, the NYT's ombudsman, Arthur Brisbane, appears to be seriously asking the paper's readers whether they want it to tell them the truth.

Seriously?

The only other option, it would seem, would be for the paper to just be a propaganda bullhorn for anyone who wants publicity.

The fact that the NYT has to ask readers that question seems mind-boggling.

But I suppose that, instead of being stunned, we should be grateful.

After all, it is in part the NYT's uncertainty about whether it should tell readers the truth or just pass on PR crap that creates an opportunity for sites like ours.

UPDATE: Mr. Brisbane's question, apparently, was more subtle--and actually did not deal with demonstrable "facts" so much as characterizations (Romney's persistent statement that Obama is "apologizing for America," for example). There's no fact there to prove wrong--Romney presumably doesn't mean that Obama is actually saying "I'm sorry"--so the question then is not about "truth" but "fairness." And in this particular case, no, the paper should not be obligated to say whether or not it thinks that Romney's characterization is fair.

What It's Like To Work Inside New York's Most Aggressive PR Spin Machine

0
0

ronn torossian

If you Google the words "PR agency" or "PR firm," the top results belong to 5WPR, whose owner and CEO, Ronn Torossian, enjoys the reputation of being the most intense, in-your-face PR man in New York.

Skip directly to the photo tour>>

The New York Times once called him “brash and aggressively outspoken." BusinessWeek described him as "The Bad Boy of Buzz."

Gawker has an entire section of its site devoted to negative stories about Torossian, including the time he sued a competitor who bought the URL "rontorossian.com" and pointed it to the Summer's Eve website.

The reality is that Torossian's 90-employee shop is best-known for the sheer volume of media pitching it does, mostly for consumer products. It is not unusual for writers in the business press to receive three emails or calls a day from 5W staffers. When they're launching products, 5W execs can send up to 60 pitches a day to different media outlets. "Everyone here pitches media, from myself to my most junior employee," Torossian told B.I. "We are very intense."

Torossian gained fame for representing celebrities in early 2000s. Sean "Diddy" Combs' Bad Boy Entertainment was his first client. He's also represented Pamela Anderson, Snoop Dogg and Lil' Kim.

ronn torossianMore recently, 5W has worked for blue-chip brands such as Barnes & Noble, Anheuser-Busch, Coca-Cola, Evian, and Microsoft. It also promotes Hint water, Cold-Eeze and Gray Line New York sightseeing, plus off-beat products such as LifeStyles condoms, "sexy lifestyle brand" Booty Parlor, and the Shake Weight. In fact, every employee gets a Shake Weight to use at their desk when they're hired. "Shake Weight works," Torossian told us. He's also authored a new book on his craft, "For Immediate Release."

This week, Torossian told Business Insider why he works the way he does. He let us spend some time interviewing his staffers and allowed us to take photos inside 5W. Torossian even offered to show us his agency's tax returns. We got an unusual level of access -- the marketing business generally doesn't like "behind the scenes" coverage -- which says something admirable about the agency's transparency. Torossiann isn't afraid of scrutiny. Most everyone else is.

The result is a rare look at what it's like inside one of the U.S.'s busiest, most effective PR shops. If you don't like working from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., or being constantly rejected by reporters, then this is a tour through your personal workplace hell.

On the other hand, if you want to see how an agency that isn't afraid to "get its hands dirty" (as Torossian describes it) in the media sausage factory, and is enormously successful at doing so, then this is for you.

This is what new clients see first.

This is 5W's reception desk. The waiting area is fully stocked with TVs, magazines and other choice media. 5W wears its priorities on its sleeve.

Torossian formed his own agency to get away from the 'old people.'

Ronn Torossian formed 5WPR in 2003 with just himself and an intern. He was just 28 years old. (He's now 37.) The company has moved offices five times in the last nine years to accommodate its growth. Before 2003, Torossian worked in the New York office of MWW Group, a New Jersey-based PR agency.

Born in Brooklyn and raised in the Bronx, Torossian went to New York public schools. His first name -- those two n's are the correct spelling -- is not a nickname. "My mother hated the name 'Ronald.' Ronn is my name," he says. "Don't ask me why."

In person, Torossian is completely unlike his media persona -- he's calm, personable, and not the caricature the media has made him out to be.

5WPR's HQ is on the 12th floor of this skyscraper.

The agency is currently located at 888 Seventh Avenue in Manhattan. It's opposite Carnegie Hall.

Most of the other tenants in the building are hedge funds or private equity groups, such as Soros Fund Management, George Soros' company. Torossian isn't interested in being on Madison Avenue or somewhere more trendy like Chelsea, Soho or the West Village, where a lot of PR shops can be found. He wants to be seen with the serious players, in the heart of Midtown's high-rises.

Clients tend to spend between $100,000 and $500,000 a year for 5W's services. Most large firms try to offer clients "strategic advice" -- they want to become "big picture" corporate strategy partners to their clients. Torossian, however, doesn't believe that's the primary role PR firms should have. "They're doing two-year research reports. I don't think a PR firm should be doing that."

Companies want PR because they want the media exposure that drives sales. "Many large firms don't like to get their hands dirty" with media, he says. "I have a hard time charging clients $150,000 a month" and not doing media.

In 2011, 5W's business was up 20 percent over 2010, and the company will book in excess of $12 million in revenues, Torossian says.

See Inside Beyoncé's Ridiculous Million Dollar Maternity Suite

Beyonce

A beige and brown color palate, mahogany walls, four flat screen TVs, crystal bowls a top modern table tops, a coordinated sitting area and a freshly-tiled kitchenette complete with stainless steel appliances-- these are the interiors that made up Beyoncé's alleged $1.3 million maternity suite at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York.

If these pictures TMZ somehow obtained are for real, then Jay-Z and Beyoncé, the reigning couple of hip hop, certainly had the royal treatment to welcome Blue Ivy into the world.

"A month ago, [hospital workers] tore down 6-8 rooms and turned them into two suites," US Weekly quoted a Lenox Hill hospital source as saying. The couple "paid to have it constructed just for them."

And while Jayoncé's fellow hospital patients were peeved at the A-list couple prompting an investigation by the Health Department, one person who doesn't think the million dollar birth plan was a bad idea?

Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

"If [the hospital] got paid a lot of money and it let them provide services to other people who don't have insurance or can't afford it, I'm not so sure it's a bad thing," Bloomberg stated Tuesday in a press conference (not about Blue Ivy). "Full-paying patients are very valuable to hospitals in this day and age."

5 Celebrity Homes That Could Hit The Market Now That Their Owners Are Engaged

0
0

justin timberlake, jessica biel

Call it the season of ring bling.

Beyond the usual gifts exchanged the past holiday season, some Hollywood stars and Grammy-Award winners got an added holiday bonus and took the first, formal step in tying the knot.

Britney Spears, Anne Hathaway, Drew Barrymore and Jessica Biel are just a few of the gal celebs whose gifts included engagement rings.

That means this looming, A-list of impending wedded bliss could signal the start of real estate moves as the stars consolidate, downsize or realign their real estate holdings in preparation for the next stage of their relationships.

In anticipation of that potential, here are some of the homes these lovebirds own and might be sending to the market sometime soon.

The post originally appeared on Zillow.com.

Anne Hathaway: New York, New York

For the doe-eyed co-star of “The Devil Wears Prada” and Academy-Award nominee for her role in “Rachel Getting Married,” the proposal came from her longtime boyfriend Adam Shulman over Thanksgiving weekend. The couple has been dating since 2008 and Hathaway now has a chunky emerald-cut ring to show off the engagement.

Hathaway has long called New York home (she previously rented a penthouse), but has more recently been living in a 1,153-square-foot condo, pictured below, in the Sutton Place neighborhood of Manhattan that she purchased for $1.6 million in 2007.

The building is a mix of hotel and condo units with full concierge service, floor-to-ceiling windows and terrace balcony. Hathaway’s condo has 2 bedrooms, but with only a little over 1,100 square feet, Hathaway may be looking for a little more room to roam with her husband-to-be after the wedding.

More New York real estate on Zillow >

Britney Spears: Thousand Oaks, Calif.

We recently detailed Britney Spears’ variety of real estate wheelings and dealings, including her most recent rental home in Thousand Oaks. Spears picked up the new home shortly before the announcement of her engagement to her former manager, Jason Trawick.

The home, pictured below, has nearly everything celebrities want in real estate: 10,000-sq ft of living space, high-end features like an infinity pool, private gym, home theater, gourmet outdoor grill area and a pub with billiards table. Given Spears’ real estate track record, we’re betting the pop star could be in the market for a new home after the wedding.

More real estate in Thousand Oaks, Calif. >

Drew Barrymore: Montecito, Calif.

Born and raised in Hollywood, Drew Barrymore comes from a long line of actors, including her grandfather, silver-screen legend John Barrymore. The actress has had two prior marriages, but this time is choosing to marry someone outside of show business: Will Kopelman is a New York native and art consultant.

Although Kopelman is from the East Coast, Barrymore currently owns two homes in the LA area, including one she purchased in 2010 for $6.9 million. The prime piece of Montecito real estate sits on two secluded acres of gardens, citrus and avocado trees and expansive outdoor living areas. Barrymore may be willing to trade all this in, however, for a new swanky penthouse with Kopelman.

Newsweek Announces 1960s Themed 'Mad Men' Issue

0

newsweek vintageNewsweek may have had a challenging year, but the magazine is starting 2012 off with a bang, announcing what is sure to be a buzz-worthy "Mad Men" themed issues.

The 1960s inspired redesign is set to hit the newsstands on March 19, right in time for the show's March 25th season-five premiere.

Robert Gregory, the president of Newsweek Daily Beast, told Ad Age that the magazine was hoping to replicate the advertisements of the 1960s as well.

"We've challenged agencies and clients to do '60s-inspired creative, but for modern messages and products," he said.

Although since it's 2012 and not 1964, don't expect to see any ads for Lucky Strike-- Newsweek nixed cigarette ads a while ago.

With Newsweek's ad sales improving from an abysmal 30.8 percent down in the first quarter to 24.5 percent down in the second, 10 percent in the third and only 3.6 percent down in the fourth, according to the Publishers Information Bureau, this could prove to be just the kind of creative move that the magazine needs.

The issue will also feature a cover story on the series and a piece on the role of advertising in American culture.

Considering how much the advertising world loves Don Draper -- some agencies even created 60s-inspired commercials to air during the show -- do you think that shops will be lining up to create a vintage ad for the issue? Will you buy a copy?

Why You May Have To Wait Until 2016 To See The 'Avatar' Sequel

0
0

avatar

Sorry, "Avatar" fans, looks like you may have to wait another four years to return to Pandora.

At a recent preview screening for the new, 3D version of "Titanic" in Los Angeles, the film's producer Jon Landau stated that James Cameron's first "Avatar" sequel is "four years away."

The highly-anticipated sequel was originally slated for a December 2014 release date, according to 20th Century Fox.

"Avatar 2" and "Avatar 3," which is set to be released a year later, are Cameron's next back-to-back projects.  This means "Avatar 3" won't hit theaters until 2017.

But sounds like it's worth the wait.

"Landau promised that 'Avatar 2' was going to showcase advanced technology; from the 3D camera system used to the CG and performance capture, but also in terms of a higher frame rate," stated fansite Bleeding Cool.

If the 2016 prediction proves accurate, that means there will be seven years between "Avatar" and "Avatar 2."

Hopefully, audiences won't forget what they loved so much about the 2009 original.  Doubtful, though, considering that after raking in $2,782,275,172 worldwide, "Avatar" was, in fact, the highest grossing film... ever.

Jay-Z And Beyonce Might Be Trading In That Maybach For A Bentley

0
0

Jay-z and Beyonce Knowles

Mercedes' announcement that Maybach will be closing its doors in the coming year has left a number of celebrities looking for a new exclusive brand where they can spend their money.

Reuters is reporting that Bentley's executive team is taking an active approach to building their customer base by sending letters to celebrities and others in the public spotlight who are current Maybach owners.

This list of potential new clients includes Samuel L. Jackson, Jay-Z, billionaire Roman Abramovich, and noted car collector the Sultan of Brunei, among many others.

Since the announcement, Maybach clients have been reaching out to Bentley and CEO Wolfgang Duerheimer is beginning to write letters to other Maybach owners to entice them to be Bentley clients.

The potential customers that have reached out to Bentley were upset over the sudden axing of the Maybach brand and are looking for something to replace their current cars.

The reason they bought a Maybach in the first place was that they were looking for a car that had an even more exclusive luxury nameplate than Mercedes-Benz. With the brand closing, Bentley and Rolls-Royce are two of the only companies that would fit the bill.

While Bentley is actively pursuing customers, Rolls-Royce will welcome new clients but is taking a passive approach. They have said what Bentley is doing is "not the Rolls-Royce way."

Bentley's executive board is even inviting these potential buyers to come to their English factory for a VIP tour in order to welcome them to the brand.

If the grand plan works, we may be seeing more and more celebrities in the $300,000 Bentley Mulsanne and fewer and fewer in anything from Mercedes-Benz.
